  1. It's all to do with creating "Organizational Units", placing Users and Computers inside and then delegating limited administrative control of that OU.
  2. Have a read of this ....... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;230263
  3. Create a custom "mmc" and give them access to that.
  4. A Pentium would always be preferable to a Celeron. A Pentium will usually have more cache memory, a maths co-processor and extra multi-media instructions (a la MMX).
  5. You should just be able to run smartdrv.exe as a separate program before you run the winnt.exe program. And yes, without running it, it will take an eternity to copy files from a CD!! Do a Google search about your himem error.
  6. AFAIK there is no such thing as FAT64. The Table would be just too big! FAT32 isn't fully implemented as the Tables would be 16Gb (x2 because there is a backup FAT, so actually 32Gb, I think Windows only uses 19 bits of the possible maximum of 32.
  7. You will only need "smartdrv.exe" if you boot from a Win98 floppy. Have a look here ... http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml
  8. Who said anything about running "setup.exe", in DOS mode you need to run "d:\i386\winnt.exe". Also, 64Mb is the minimum RAM required for XP, and I think the installation WILL fail anyway!
  9. XP needs 4-5 floppy boot disks, however you can use a 98 boot disk. Boot with CD-ROM support, format your hard drive. Note: make sure your boot disk has a program called "smartdrv.exe" and run that before you install XP, otherwise you will be too old to use your computer when it finally finishes copying files from the CD!! Run d:\i386\winnt.exe (assuming d is your CD-ROM drive letter) That should install XP. Convert the hard drive to NTFS!
  10. Don't upgrade, format your HDD with NTFS and perform a clean installation (after saving your data, of course)
  11. Having said that ..... here is an offering from Microsoft, I feel sure it's free, and it might just do what you want http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx
  12. I don't think it is possible. gpedit.msc isn't really for what you are trying to do. I can, however, recommend a fab app..... http://www.softheap.com/secagent.html ....and it's not very expensive.
  13. Why would you want a VOLUME licence key for ONE conputer? Seems like a contradiction to me.
  14. Notice, however, that the GUI for Windows 98 and Windows 2000 are remarkably similar! Plus there are astonishing similarities between the GUI in XP and Server 2003 and I suspect Vista. I was referring to the GUIs and not the kernel coding.
  15. I understood XP to mean eXPeriment, as in preparation for Windows Vista. Windows 98 was also preparation for Windows 2000.
  16. Does the name really matter that much? We're all going to buy/crack it anyway.
  17. I don't do upgrades - fresh installations only for me!
  18. That's impossible, the "NoChangingWallpaper" key works! It's how we do the same thing here at work.
  19. Or ... HKEY_Current User/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Policies/ActiveDesktop. Create a key titled "NoChangingWallpaper" without the quotes and set the value=1. Voila!
  20. Alternatively, you can force an Active Desktop wallpaper.
  21. Why don't you give your Users a Mandatory Profile, then if they change the background it isn't permanent, they get the default one back again each time they logon.
