Browsers & Programs that will install & run w/o requiring SSE2
Jody Thornton replied to Ninho's topic in Software Hangout
Sorry - in Canada we actually do just call it "hydro". It's Canadian-specific slang. But yes, you're "technically" correct And better yet, I have a Samsung SyncMaster 213T 4x3 screen that is 22". So I have the wide-screen benefit for web pages horizontally, but I have amazing vertical real estate. It's nice to view a lot of information on one screen without scrolling So what was that Iris, TV, thingy, what was that (I'm just kidding) -
Browsers & Programs that will install & run w/o requiring SSE2
Jody Thornton replied to Ninho's topic in Software Hangout
Sorry, but nowadays - CRTs take up more hydro, weigh more to move around, take up more desk real estate, and aren't as clear. It's OK to hasten the disappearance of the CRT. The flat screen provides so many more benefits and used ones cost next to nothing. -
Also I want to see if an ARM version of Edge Browser will released for Windows RT 8.1. (I've never really got a clear answer to this, but where is the best place to post about Surface RT tablets and Windows RT questions?)

Speaking of which, Studio Tax 2018 (also a Canuckistan tax package) works as well on Vista as well. (it does require .NET 4 though).

@Mcinwwl I don't possess the "drive" to install off all of those floppies. First, I don't physically have a micro-floppy drive. Next, even if I did, I am so used to optical disc installations, that I couldn't stand the patience required to sit through floppy installations anymore.

v56 is still Australis/XUL. There might be some XUL extensions that do not work in v56, but it is the old model. There is some WebExtension cqapability in v56.

For those few of us that use a Windows RT Surface tablet, it would be actually nice to have Edge released on Windows RT 8.1. I really wish it was part of the rollout. It would make Windows RT immensely more useful. As it goes, it's a decent tablet for basic needs.

I think @win32 gets the last .... "Word"

Well @jaclaz, the best puns should incorporate a "facepalm" moment. So I'll happily take terrible.
-
I'm not sure I possess "the drive" to do it! :p (thank you, thank you)

Wow! Even OS/2 Warp 3 was installed from less floppies than that ....lol. I never installed Windows 95 or higher from floppies, just CD-ROMs

Well I'm glad to be wrong then. I'm not running Vista any longer.

Apparently the legacy Malwarebytes v3.5 doesn't update anymore on Vista. https://www.vistax64.com/threads/vista-no-longer-supported-by-some-security-software.304411/ (Added today at the bottom of the thread)

My Browser Builds (Part 1)
Jody Thornton replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
I wouldn't react prematurely. In a couple days, this will blow over. It appears the parties are rectifying what they can. Don't let a nasty person chase you away. -
My Browser Builds (Part 1)
Jody Thornton replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Plus isn't Matt just using SeaMonkey and altering it into a browser-only product? By the way, everyone knows I'm not stuck on the continued use of XP. BUT .... BUT .... as it stands, native Seamonkey can still run on XP, can't it? Now if Borealis can't, then isn't Matt doing the same thing to the Mozilla code that he accuses Roytam1 of doing to Borealis and Interlink? Here's the way I see it. Even if I shake my head at those still using XP, I'm not going to put up intentional road-blocks, just to make life miserable for those people. So Matty Boy, why not just let Roytam1 continue compiling these applications for XP and Vista compatibility? Forget about "following the agreement to the LETTER"; what about exercising the spirit of the license. Think about it - other than your arrogant and hostile attitude, they ACTUALLY LIKE your work, and want to use it. How much bigger of a compliment can you get? -

Come at you? Man, you really sound threatening there @Matt A. Tobin. Watch that blood pressure you useless piece of butt-wipe, you. By the way folks, this fine piece of waste has two rules: listen closely: (1) On;ly call him "Tobin", "Matt A Tobin" or "New Tobin Diaphragm" - wait I'm sorry "Paradigm" .... "Paradigm" (2) Never just call him "Matt", "Matt Tobin", "Matty Boy" (hey that might work), or any obscene term that might make me smile. **** In other words - obey # 2. -

@LoneCrusader, may I quote you on Ghacks. I don't need to identify you, but I just don't want to pretend that what you said was my original thought, and thus steal it. -

See @LoneCrusader I agree with you quite a bit there (and usually we vehemently disagree with each other). But it makes no sense for developers of Pale Moon and Seamonkey (which both utilize classic interfaces) to abandon operating systems like Windows 2000 or Windows XP, when the older-styled application goes alongside it so well. Also the mass support for such browsers would come from the classic OS community. Moon-Matt will not talk with ANYONE with disagrees with their ideologies. -
Got this month's updates and I installed the IE10 and Flash updates. Does anyone know when IE11 for Server 2012 is coming down? I'm hopeful that I can install it, but then remove the browser portion (just like I do with IE10 on the Add/Remove Components). I hope so.

How to avoid being "upgraded to Win 10" against your will:
Jody Thornton replied to dencorso's topic in Windows 8
The way I see it @greenhillmaniac is that I'll be OK-ish until October 2023 (unlike you, I'm not a gamer, so I'm less affected). After which, I either move to a Linux distro, or else I bail on PCs being my daily driver. Maybe I can use a tablet full-time by then. Perhaps after 2023, I'll setup an older workstation with XP x64 Edition, use it offline and do all of my audio recording and editing on it. -

Yeah there was a post on Ghacks about this, and another thread on here in the Server 2012 section. Thanks @ComputerNerd
