  1. Also, try setting a MIN and MAX size for your page file rather than letting Windows handle it. With the amount of RAM you have, multiply it by 1.5 and enter those values in the MIN and MAX (in Control Panel > System > Advanced > Settings (third button) ) e.g. 320MB of RAM x 1.5 = 480MB (set MIN and MAX as 480MB) If that doesn't help, then its probably the multiplier settings in the BIOS like FthrJACK mentioned.
  2. It probably removed vital registry keys for OpenGL, no wonder you can't play RTCW. And you often reboot a lot cos something f**ked up. Blame it on the incompatible RegClean perhaps?

    XP & ZA Pro

Only the previous versions of ZoneAlarm had a problem with XP mainly 2.6.84 and 2.6.215 only because it was incompatible with XP, but now that has been fixed in the latest version 2.6.362 and its XP compatible too.
  4. yeah since its only 3mb...:WTF?: a 320mb HDD should cost you 30 pence. lol maybe if you didn't use the PC for a day, the reduced electricity cost would cover the price of that 3mb file... :rofl
  5. I have 4.1, the first beta, not beta 3 or 4. and it hasn't expired for a month. Maybe you should find a source where you can get an older version. Otherwise I'll upload mine
  6. I use Symantec PCAnywhere 10.5 and it works on all Windows platforms
  7. Boot your Windows XP CD from the BIOS and choose to repair boot sectors when you get to the repair section of the setup.
  8. Rhodium Edge has been the only theme I've used the most, so its my favourite. The GlassXP theme ain't so bad, and there are some others.. which I can't remember (can't be bothered to switch on my WinXP machine's monitor on lol)
  9. Its not overclocked at all. I have to use the old 3211 beta radeon drivers. Surprisingly they do well in benchmarks and play my games smoothly 1.3GHz AMD Athlon DDR Processor 512MB SDRAM DDR 266MHz Microstar 6380 K7T 266 Pro (Not flashed) ATI Radeon 64MB DDR (Using 3211 drivers at the moment Creative SB Live! Series (November 29th drivers) DUAL 38GB IBM 7,200rpm Hard Drives LG 12xDVD 40xCD-ROM Plextor 16x12x40 CD-RW Genius Fast Ethernet 10/100 NIC Belinea 17" Monitor (Installed as Plug and Play monitor) It only seems to lose signal when an application or game is put to full screen in 640x480, like the DirectX display test does, and Red Alert 2 Installation, and a newly installed Thief II demo (which was on 640x480 by default) It was all working when I started using my old drivers again.
  10. Win98?? no way man! Go back to windows 2000 instead
  11. Not sure... but MS took it off their download site moments before XP was launched, so they probably did that for some reason. This should help you make a decision. I wouldn't use it though. Try RegCleaner from http://www.jv16.org its the closest alternative you can get and its XP compatible.
  12. If it doesn't burn, then use an alternative cd burning proggy, you'll get more features that way anyway. Nero, Easy CD Creator, CD-Mate, NTI CD Maker (btw everybody, CD-Mate looks good with what it can do: http://www.cd-mate.com)
  13. Its normal for a CD-R Device to be called a CD Drive in My Computer lol

    Build 2600

yeah we all know that know, this is a very old thread.
  15. After doing a bit more testing in the last 2 hours, I've traced it down to a graphics driver problem. Only one thing I can say - The Official ATI Radeon drivers version 3276 on the ATI.com site is crap!! I installed the win2k driver on win2k and the same problem occurs!! So, on XP, I rolled-back to my previous radeon drivers, which were working perfectly until I installed that official 3276 driver. But that didn't seem to work very well, the problem was still there and it was stuck in the OS. So I tried to update over with my working radeon drivers, still no go. Format Time. :cry And... on Win2k, there's no roll-back feature like XP has, so I updated over the offical 3276 with some old radeon beta driver. The problem is gone! I would have expected XP to be better at driver-removal than win2k, but it ain't! IMO if you wanted to remove a driver properly on XP, ya gotta format, and that sucks!
  16. Have you ever experienced a time when you load something full screen (DirectX display test, Winamp visulization full screen) that your monitor loses signal with the graphics card? The monitor goes on standby and the computer does nothing, CTRL ALT DEL does nothing, and you end up having to do a cold reset. Then... the Windows XP boot screen appears... but the meter stops, it never carries on loading. - The only way to fix this would be to go to safe mode, restart, then it will load windows xp without a problem. If this has happened to you, then reply.
  17. get yourself an external modem if you plan to buy a modem, they're easier to install.
  18. I dowloaded StyleXP Beta 4.1 about a month ago and no nag screen tells me I have a trial version. Maybe you should download it and see. P.S. You went a bit overboard with the ?? question marks.... :WTF?:
  19. I'm in the UK and I'm having difficulty in finding a couple of RPG games for the playstation: Suikoden 2 Vandal Hearts 2 Chrono Cross I've looked at www.gameplay.com and www.softwarefirst.com with no results. Only Vandal Hearts 2 came up at gameplay.com and its a bit pricey too for an old game :confused Do you know where I can get those games?
  20. I have heard that most people should download the application compatibility update to their hard drive through *windows catalog* (read other threads on how to get there) then, turn off Automatic Updates in your system properties. double click on the exe you just downloaded and follow instructions to install the update, then reboot.
  21. XP is a forgetful OS, it forgets your folder settings (the view as - thumbnail, line, detail, large, small) it forgets your zonealarm settings, it forgets the newest Norton Antivirus definitions installed (if you rebooted straight away after updating). Its probably a bug and I bet MS don't do nothing about it cos they don't care. The only way to prevent programs from forgetting settings is to keep the OS uptime for 2-3 days and it will remember eventually.
