  1. I just went there, (getskinned.org, not lakerscenter.com) and this is what it says: Welcome to GetSkinned.org! New Site to open before the end of the year! Yes, as you can see, we're working on getting the site back up. We've found a new host, and are working diligently to get the site up and on it's feet again. We do have all of your content that has been submitted, so nothing is lost. (Thank God). We plan on having the site up and running once again before the end of the year. In the meantime, check out Neowin's website for updated Themes, Visual Styles, and Wallpapers. (Yes, we're still the ONLY one's that have BOOT SCREENS). - Riggs: GetSkinned.org Admin
  2. Firmware isn't special software. Its an executable that updates the memory chip inside your hardware. LS-Dragons had to update his Linksys router with the latest firmware to make it work 100% with WinXP
  3. After doing a bit of research, I found that the new CD-RW Media I bought are "High Speed" versions 4x-10x. Old CD-RW drives cannot write to these, because of the way they were manufactured. I will have to buy some old 1x-4x CD-RW Media. http://www.emediapro.net/EM2000/writer11.html
  4. You can copy XP's MSConfig.exe file and use it in Win2k. But I prefer StartupCPL from www.mlin.net since it looks more nicer and simpler than MSConfig.
  5. I bought 5 new Ricoh CD-RW Media that can handle rewrite speeds of 4x-10x, and 2 TDK CD-RW that can handle the same as above. I have a Yamaha 8x4x24. (CRW8424E) Nero 5564 says it can only write at 2x on the Ricoh or TDK disc, but 4x on an old unbranded disc in Nero 5564. I should be able to write it at 4x but I can't? However when I try to write to ricoh or tdk in Nero, it says "This recorder does not support this type of media" WTF?!! I installed NTI CD Maker 2000, supports 4x but it froze when it wrote to the TOC. It wasn't able to erase my ricoh or tdk media either. I've tried Easy CD 5, Nero, NTI CD Maker, and none of them can erase/write to my new CD-RW Media. I assumed this is a limitation of my CD-RW Drive, but since my Yamaha can rewrite at 4x, the CD-RW Media I purchased supports 4x too. Is my 1 and a half year old Yamaha unable to write to these new 4x-10x cd-rw media?? And look what it says on the firmware page for the EIDE Model: http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/co...gfirm/8424.html They removed support for writing/erasing on these new cd-rw discs. No point in calling it a CD-RW drive now is there? I haven't upgraded to that firmware though, I'm still on 1.0f (which means it should work?) Please help!!
  6. Yeah its wicked! Its good when I want to install updates to a PC with no net connection, so I download them to hard disk, burn it to a cd-rw, travel 35 miles or so, and put it on my other PC
  7. Can you tell us every detail about your network? It will save us from explaining what you have to do (which would be as big as a guide) Tell us what this "home phone line network" is, do you mean a 100Mbit network connected by cat5 cable and a hub? or a crossover cable? Tell us your LAN Properties info, what protocols are in use, what IP address is assigned etc.
  8. Sedative, aIRC advertises when you quit. BIG NO NO. [img:cda1a309a0]http://vzone.virgin.net/aaron.stevens/gaythread.gif[/img:cda1a309a0]
  9. boot your Windows XP CD from the BIOS, and run the repair. It will check the boot sectors and the startup environment, and restore the boot menu back.
  10. Try Polaris 2001 V5.0 then. Suitable for File Servers, TDCC, and XDCC http://www.polaris-central.20m.com Just make sure you get rid of the auto-join channel thing in one of the options, cos it keeps going in a channel called #hotwarez or something.
  11. Freezing cold feet and hands, blocked sore nose, sore throat, headache, weak...... Being ill is such a drag :cry :cry :cry
  12. you might have to do a format and clean install. I doubt home will upgrade over Pro. Activation will go fine, just make sure you don't swap too much hardware otherwise you'll have to contact MS for another number stating your reason when you re-activated 6 times.

    SFC won't work

    :hmmm: BUMP :hmmm:
  14. This rarely happens, happened about 4 times since I got my new PC in september. It happened 3 times in Win2k and once in XP. What's up with it?
  15. I haven't played Fsim for a long time, but landing planes was my speciality! I couln't hold planes in the air long enough though, all that "STALLING!" bulls***.
  16. I used this, and it opened up the command prompt window, says its fetching an updated server.met from http://234.234 whatever. After 5 seconds edonkey opens, but the command prompt window stays open. Should I close it manually or not? I had to close it when it stayed like that for 5-10 minutes.
  17. seen it months ago, but nevertheless, still impressive! Why don't developers make games using that kind of compression? I still find it hard to believe how its fit into 64kb... its just probably small bits of code instructing DirectX how it should generate the music and textures to show? That's my theory though...
  18. Running System File Checker from the command prompt won't work. I ran SFC /SCANNOW and it asks to insert the WinXP Professional CD-ROM. I did that and it still asks for a CD. My CD is made from the eval ISO with corpfiles, and made bootable by Nero. The WinXP installation also came from the CD i created, so SFC should work.
  19. This is not a Windows bug. Moved to Games forum

    Games in XP?

I've played a few games on NTFS, and I don't get any problems or slowdowns. All my games are stored on a FAT32 partition though. (saves having to reinstall all the games when win2k/xp f00ks up)
  21. I use CoolInfo to show my PC stats on the desktop (CPU Usage, RAM Usage, IP address, uptime, etc) but no weather or stock info I'm afraid! I also use a DOS Uptime tool, I go into the command prompt and type UPTIME if this file is placed into c: (extract it from the zip first!)
  22. Put a W on each Butt-cheek, then when you bend over what do you get? WOW!
