  1. Dammit Drewdatrip stop promoting different software. We're trying to solve a problem with a software the user is having with sending/receiving files. Suggesting other alternatives saying its better is hardly gonna solve that problem is it?
  2. I guess you're referring to MSN "Messenger"? It doesn't time out for me, and it reconnects if it gets disconnected from the Messenger server
  3. Are you using a router? If you are then you need to allow specific ports that the messenger uses for sending files across.
  4. Try a different browser such as Opera or Mozilla (don't worry, installing them won't mess up your Internet Explorer settings and attributes like installing Netscape does)
  5. Ok, change the value to 0 and try again, reboot if it doesn't work. Most registry changes don't take effect until you reboot the OS.
  6. What is so good about that soyo dragon plus mobo? I saw a link to a soyo site with the mobo, it has a lot of good features (which everyone would obviously want, and go to buy it straightaway) but is it reliable/stable? I've heard no reviews on it.
  7. Thanks, I just got a bunch of PSX images off edonkey, with Tris' help too
  8. Midtown Madness 2 in XP runs fine on my machine. I would say that its a graphics driver problem, not a compatibility problem on your PC.
  9. Work done in 2000 can be used in 97, as long as you "save as" in Word 97 format in the drop down box. I expect Office XP does the same. My college still uses Office 97 (bunch of old-age fart admins) so I use Office 2000 at home so that I don't go too far in office versions.

    New Virus

I bet your Sophos antivirus didn't catch it! In an antivirus review at PCWorld.com Sophos came out to be the worst, as it let through about 6 viruses without knowing they existed!! Norton, P-Cillin, F-Secure (if thats spelt right) and Panda came out tops.
  11. Yeah we've seen it before. But anyway the new members of MSFN haven't so now they can.
  12. I never liked nVidia either, its very common to find people who get BSODs in Win2k or XP with GeForce cards until they get the right driver. And I've seen absolutely no-one getting driver probs or BSODs with ATI Radeons. ATI may lack in providing a number of different drivers, but at least they work and are not troublesome. A year ago I used to own a GeForce 256 and an GeForce 2 MX, they crashed in windows 98/2k and every single game I played no matter what drivers I used. ppppff. Long live ATI! (I guess 3DFx are decent too but I never used one of their cards)
  13. I don't use Norton Utilities, and the winzip 8.1 setup file came directly from the winzip site, I doubt its a virus. I think I've seen this mentioned in another thread long ago, I'll have to dig up for it :hohum
  14. This is because the file is probably in use, make a backup of sysdm.cpl, call it sysdm_original.cpl or something. Resource hack sysdm.cpl and save it as sysdm_new.cpl Boot into safe mode and open up command prompt, and type: Copy C:WindowsSystem32sysdm_new.cpl C:WindowsSystem32sysdm.cpl Then press Y when prompted. Reboot back to normal mode.
  15. Yes, the ShareReactor crew will continue work on ShareReactor releases as a tribute to Gowenna
  16. After being missing for 3 days, it was found out that Geraldine (Gowenna) died in a car accident...:cry :cry Rest in Peace Gowenna
  17. Unimatrix, putting the pagefile on a different partition which is on the same hard disk as where the OS is will not make it any faster, it will make it worse. Only if you have 2 hard drives it becomes a good idea to put the pagefile on the second one.
  18. See ya chris, you'll hang around though won't you?!
  19. I've had the same problem. Only happened once in the last 4 months of using XP, and its very strange. I also have WinZip 8.1 final installed, but not getright.
  20. The only way to fix it is to use the beta 3211 drivers. It might still be on Rage3d.com if you're lucky. The Radeon 3276 and beta 3281 causes the monitor to go off.

    Registy Error

Registry errors? ewwwww.... What was the last software you installed before these errors started happening? If you think you know of the application causing it, then try to get into Windows somehow and uninstall it. If that fails, then you might have to boot from the Windows XP CD and run the Automated System Recovery (F2) (Did you create the 2 ASR disks in the Backup Program in XP?)
