Well, it seems Google isn't as good as it used to be... It's not on Foxit's own website as of now anyway so it probably means they are still adjusting things for that version. I saved myself lots of time and headaches unpacking the installer with Inno Unpacker btw. It's running fine in Win2k compat mode here without a need for KexStub but I don't think I'll be using this version if they keep the atrocious interface they've adopted here, at first I thought the UI was buggy but then I realized it was just a Windows 8 style interface...

Latest Flash Player (11.7.700.169) requires: [Gdi32.dll] GdiAlphaBlend= I can run and use RealWorldPaint without issues using: [Ole32.dll] HICON_UserFree= HICON_UserMarshal= HICON_UserSize= HICON_UserUnmarshal= Btw, it seems they pulled Foxit Reader 6 out, I couldn't find a working download link for it.

I have just installed Netmeeting on my system (Win ME + KernelEx 4.5.2) from the link you provided and it installed without problems. I can run conf.exe too, I haven't gone through the registration process howewer as I don't intend to use it. This being said, you can disable KernelEx entirely by deleting its registry startup keys (after backing them up as reg files so you can restore them later) at: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MPRServices\KernelEx HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VKRNLEX and reboot to see if it installs OK without it.

Well, it seems not everything works with Flash. For instance, the MySpace audio player doesn't work, it keeps on "connecting" to the stream but nothing ever happens. And it works with no version of Flash I tried, down to version 10. Version 9 which is compatible with vanilla 9x is unable to load the player itself.

To disable the startup logo you need the following entry in the msdos.sys file which is located in the root dir of the boot drive [Options] Logo=0

KernelEx / printing (once again...) K-Meleon, Firefox

Why don't you post in the (same) topic you created last year? -
The excellent Ghostery add-on works fine with both Firefox 8 and Opera 12.02. A must have for those who do not want Facebook, Google and others to track their every moves on the internet IMO.

I don't think Windows ME does the "Waiting for shutdown" logo thing. There doesn't appear to be one such logo in the install cabs and I can't recall having ever seen it in years of use of that OS so I am probably right on this one this time. Anyway, it isn't that important , is it?

Free versions of Delphi have been distributed on computer magazines cover CDs in the UK (PCPlus and perhaps others). You may find those CDs on eBay, car boot sales, second hand shops, etc... Most recent versions such 6 and 7 required to email Delphi to get a free serial number in order to be able to use them, something that can't be done anymore. Earlier versions such as 2 and 3 didn't require any serial if I recall correctly. Unsure about version 4 and 5.

As I've said above the single window interface feature (which doesn't exist in.2.6) is very cool and the glsl plugins didn't bring anything that couldn't be done elsewhere in the program besides being very slow so it ain't a big loss IMO. I don't use 2.6 anymore. You might be of a different opinion however so it's best trying both and see what you prefer. Well, it consists into spending lots of time with various builds/versions of Gimp and GTK runtime and replacing files until you get something working. Good luck. Yeah I realize I uploaded to 4Shared and that this site requires registration to be able to download from. I'll upload somewhere else next time. Don't be so paranoid about file sharing sites, they don't want to ruin their businesses by tampering with the uploads or have such lax security as to allow hackers to do that. And there are virus scanners such as Clamwin to inspect contents of downloads jn case you'd still be suspicious. .It's not because Gimp 2.8 is (perhaps) the most recent paint software running on 9x that it's best you can get. Indeed, Photoshop 7 which runs on vanilla 9x is way more powerful, stable and fast than current Gimp for example. As I've said I run Gimp for some of its scripts and plugins and running the latest (or almost latest) is to make sure newest builds of those plugins such as the amazing G'Mic which gets updated with new stuff all the time., will run in it, compatibility of those with 2.6 is not guaranteed.
-
Most glsl plugins in 2.8 crash with an error message per crashing plugin on gimp startup so I removed all those. Glsl plugins in 2.6 work fine but they aren't compatible with 2.8. Not everything fully works in 2.6 either. eg, brush dynamics dialog for example. I couldn't get python plugins running in any version. Can you run python-fu/python plugins with 2.6? 2.6 and 2.8 can be installed at once, they don't overwrite each other's settings and what's really nice about 2.8 is the single window interface. I only use 2.8 now, mostly for using some 3rd party plugins such as but not only, G'Mic, which have no counterpart in other graphic software packages. The version I now use is 2.8.2 I think but I haven't bothered uploading it since hardly anyone seemed interested by this one, just a couple of downloads and no feedback at all. I didn't manage to get current 2.8.4 working at all.

Stop saying KernelEx breaks your software when you have no clue whether it actually does or not. You have never installed the latest or any recent version on your system so you cannot make such a statement in the present tense as you constantly do. This is the other statement you constantly make, only arguing that you have done repeated testing on a fresh install. This is unacceptable since you've now repeatedly dodged all queries for specific details so stop doing it too as it appears to be completely baseless. And just between you and me, this is not about "point scoring" (which sadly seems to be your primary concern in this discussion).
-
What case? Enough of that insanity for me anyway.
-
It means on a clean install, something most people don't do. It means only stock apps, because everyone doesn't use the same software regardless if it made by the same company. What are exactly the problems between KernelEx and the SP? Are you going to finally answer it or do you plan to endlessly carry on delivering this kind of senseless non-answers? AFAIK all those programs run fine with the latest version of KernelEx.
-
I understand nothing about it. What does TESTING it with THE SP exactly means? And if you encounter problems, as you claim, why don't you tell us exactly what those problems are?
-
Last KernelEx update is 1 year and 4 months ago and yet, despite you never installed it (as far as I understand) you regularly claim it breaks vanilla stuff you have on your machine... I don't think insulting everybody trying to get something across to you qualifies as golden words...
-
On what basis are you making such an accusation if I may ask?
-
I used to have Magix Audio Cleaning Lab Deluxe installed and had no problem with it and KernelEx. I've got some install disks for some Magix music software such Techno Ejay or crap like that, I can give them a shot if need be for the sake of testing even though they are a waste of disk space. Do you think you are the only one who has or uses such or such piece of commercial software or what? Btw I googled Magix along with KernelEx and came up with no one complaining about a problem.
-
Once again another cheerleader. You said I out your own mouth, that I never posted a bug report, thats because I don't use it. I never said KEX was unstable, I said it was causing my system to have problems. I can't speak for others systems. I use PRODUCTION software. If you don't have the paid software I use, you will not reproduce the bug. And just cause I haven't posted in the KEX, forums doesn't I didn't report my findings to Xeno personally. You can get in tune as well. Basically you maintain your claims and will not give further details... Way to go Leyok, I would suggest you completely ignore whatever Problemchyld has got to say with regards to KernelEx since he doesn't want to say what the problems exactly are.
-
Wow, seriously, you should chill out a bit dude...
-
I don't see why KernelEx would be incompatible with such or such unofficial service pack. We keep on reading Problemchyld regularly dissing KernelEx, claiming it is unstable, breaks applications, etc... but AFAIK he never posted a single bug report in the KernelEx thread or even said elsewhere what precisely the problem is supposed to be. From what I gather by looking at Sourceforge download stats, the user base of KernelEx is quite significant and if there was really windows unstability issues because of it we would have heard about them by now. As far KernelEx being incomaptible with such or such application running under vanilla 9x systems, this can happen but since it's possible to disable KernelEx on a per application basis I cannot see what the problem could be...
-
Good call jaclaz, I truly believed there wasn't one. At any rate it won't be seen on hardware powering down automatically I guess. Logo files are in the install cabs, sulogo.sys for the startup one and logos.sys for the shutdown one. I hate startup (and shutdown) logos and don't use them. (Not that anyone cares about that)
-
There is no shutdown logo in Win ME, you wouldn't have the time to see it anyway.
-
There are some settings changes you can't find like that in the registry because they are written to the registry only at shutdown and that would appear to be one of them. If you do a reset by using the power button your changes will be lost upon reboot but if you do a proper shutdown they will be there. Only way to find out where in the registry such settings are stored is to compare registry snapshot taken before and after reboot.

KernelEx -- On building, debugging and related matters...
loblo replied to Drugwash's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
http://www.zabbix.com/downloads/1.4.4/zabbix_agents_1.4.4.windows.i386.tar.gzIf you have the original versions in the system directory, delete PDH.DLL and PSAPI.DLL. Install KernelEx and try run zabbix_agentd.exe. After you done that, uninstall KernelEx and place PDH.DLL and PSAPI.DLL in system directory from SP3.CAB and you'll see the difference in errors. I haven't really found one for MSIMG32.DLL, but I would assume it has the same issues as the other files. Guys, perhaps you should know that programs requiring pdh.dll need to be put at least in Windows 2000 compatibility mode. And that zabbix program executes without pdh.dll error message with 4.5.2 in 2K compat mode. (Whether it's actually useable is another story)
