  1. Well that's not surprising since that application is not dependent on uxtheme.dll... Btw guys, it's possible to run quite a few dotnet 3.0/3.5 applications by getting the missing assemblies they may depend on from dotnet 3.5 installer and putting them in the system dir or the application folder. Remotesoft .NET Explorer is a good free tool for identifying missing .net dependencies. The WPF files won't work but often it's only just system.core.dll that's missing and this one runs just fine. I have tried hard to get some net 4.0 apps to run but to no avail even the simplest ones.
  2. So I take it you'd like to implement full XP theming support in 98/ME but I personally think there is no point to it since it's not something that's going to make more recent programs run on our systems.
  3. This is getting very annoying now, if that page tells you that Flash isn't installed then it means that Flash doesn't work, that it isn't loaded by your browser, as simple as that. Youtube videos, as you've been told now several times, are certainly html5 videos which Opera can play without plugins (using the bundled gstreamer runtime) and not Flash videos.
  4. Javascript is not a plugin and Flash most probably doesn't work on your system with that version of Opera. Check it out here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
  5. UXtheme dependency is handled by KernelEx already AFAIK or am I missing something?
  6. With my board the amount of RAM seen by windows is the same whether I use a 7950GT 512Mb or a 7800GS 256MB. I have an ATI X850 Pro 256MB lying around somewhere so I could try to install that and see if there is a difference but I am too lazy right now... BTW, Dencorso, please don't forget to replace my audio card specs from M-Audio 2496 to ESI Juli@ if you don't mind.
  7. Why wait for someone else to fix it when you can Do It Yourself with Kexstubs? Kexstubs supports every missing api that has been reported on this board (and most of the web). Sloppy error reporting like this is the reason there is not already a fix. Aside from those in Kernel32.dll which KernelEx caters for there is no other visible missing dependencies for the plugin wrapper and, besides, user.exe is a 16bit file so I am not sure how Kexstubs can be useful here.
  8. With exactly 4GiB yes. The larger ones all multi-boot ME. Only known 4GB Windows Me system in the world in daily "production" use I guess then. That's not why I am posting however, but because my system specs have slightly changed, I have replaced my sound card again and I am now happily using an ESI Juli@. I had too many issues with the M-Audio 2496 vxd driver, ranging from it not being fully multiclient to having noise in the output of some audio applications and generating OS freezes if using GPU accelerated applications after using certain audio apps such as winamp because of some bad interaction with directdraw apparently... None of that crap with the Juli@ which sounds better than the 2496 and whose wdm driver is apparently flawless and has I believe the lowest known audio latency (down to 1ms). B) Tip in case of problems for installing/reinstalling wdm audio drivers correctly btw: deleting the HKLM\Enum\SW registry key before install/reinstall is a VERY GOOD IDEA. B)
  9. I believe there are audio drivers for your notebook attached in the last post of this thread in the HP forum: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-HP-ProBook-Compaq-Slate/Audio-problem-with-Compaq-EVO-N150/td-p/194159 Installing any AC97 drivers won't do, especially recent ones on old hardware.
  10. Reg.exe is also part of the Windows 98 Resource Kit: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Services/TechNet/samples/PS/Win98/Reskit/REGISTRY
  11. FileInfo 2.21 is available here but it doesn't seem to work at all. FileInfo 2.10 is included in the proTC pack but it lists all functions as missing. FileInfo 2.07 is included in Total Commander PowerPack 1.7 and works as expected. I don't have Total commander so they have been tested in both Lister and Universal Viewer Free with identical results.
  12. Isn't CoWaitForMultipleHandles already handled by KernelEx, and emulated at that? Sorry I cannot add more to the discussion as I have yet to install Kext, lazy me...
  13. The online folders contain more files than I can accomodate and there is no website downloader application I found that's got an option to spread files from an unique folder into multiple ones, doing it by hand isn't an option obviously, especially that files should remain hyperlinked to each other properly. I guess the only option that might work would be to download and keep those files on an NTFS partition (I have the Paragon NTFS filesystem driver installed).
  14. Not all 5.x.x versions of Foxit reader have a dependency in secur32.dll, however I just post this to say that KernelEx in 2K compat mode eliminates the graphical issues here. I am still using version 4 as I don't really like the new skinned interface and I have found no way to not use skins in the options unfortunately.
  15. This looks like a great addition to KernelEx but despite I haven't tried it yet there is something I don't quite like about it and that is the need to reboot/restart windows for changes in the ini file to apply. Do you think you could do something about it?
  16. Ah OK, sorry, I didn't notice that. I prefer portable btw because the dlls are in the same folder as the executable whereas the installer puts them some place else if I am not mistaken.
  17. I have used Reshacker to completely remove Rename and Create Shortcut from the context menu long ago. Those two items are completely useless IMO and so there is more room for shell extensions.
  18. LFN for each of those files is 41+4 so that just seems to be about 5 times the length of 8+3 filename and hence should explain that phenomenon I guess, thanks.
  19. As the title says. I've been downloading massive directories of html files with Webreaper and it turned out it didn't download more than 13107 items per folder and I can't add anything with explorer into them, getting a popup error message saying the directory or file cannot be created. I can create dirs and files elsewhere on that volume as there is ample free space. The only google hit I found that could be related was this but it doesn't help. http://www.mombu.com/microsoft/comp-databases-paradox/t-2-char-field-limit-at-13107-records-122312.html Any ideas?
  20. Document and eBook reader STDU Viewer 1.6.171 which supports a great variety of file formats and I recommend the portable version as the dlls need to be registered with regsvr32 for it to fully work. Very cool app I don't think has ever been mentioned. Not a first choice for pdf however as big pdf files takes longer to load and antialising isn't as good as in other readers but I think it covers everything else apart from Microsoft lit format. http://www.stdutility.com/stduviewer.html
  21. It's surprising your Gainward Bliss 7800 GS+ with 512 MB works OK with Win98 on the 775Dual-VSTA as it's generally accepted around here that 512MB graphic cards don't work with unpatched Win98/ME systems. You should probably consider you're exceptionally lucky here. I use an XFX 7950 GT 512MB on my Asus A8V-Deluxe but it required both the RAM limitation patch from rloew installed with the graphic card switch and a particular AGP aperture setting to get it to work. Without those it's red dots on a black background and failure to boot. I use the 82.69 drivers and suffer from the shutdown issue but that's no big deal.
  22. I agree. Maybe if KernelEx comes more stable in the future, I'll consider it. ATM is not going to happen. It seems to me, guys, your posts are extremely unfair with KernelEx and give a completely wrong impression of its compatibility with programs running on stock 98 systems and stability. KernelEx is rock solid and there are currently no known pending issues with it and programs also running on stock systems.
  23. Sorry Dave, I can't remember what I deleted to bypass digital signature check thing. You're on your own, good luck.
  24. PNG is smaller than GIF by about 30% or so for applications screenshots such as those you post.
  25. Yes it did install OK apart from the files to go in windows and system and the registry entries (as mentioned in my initial post which includes the link to the modified installer). I have just been rechecking some executables and jars in the program files/Java/JRE6 subfolders and they were all update 32 and all that's in there has been copied by the installer.
