  1. You need about 2-3 days to become used to Opera. Past that period, you then wonder how you've been able to live without it and regret you haven't made the plunge sooner. That was my experience anyway. Opera 12.02 is the best browser we've got. Period. And it's the best by a big margin IMO. I've got about 30 extensions installed, several of which are interacting/parsing every page I view and it's still way faster than Firefox without extensions. The only extension I have installed that slows things a bit down is "No Google Search Redirect" which strips redirection from every google search result and this affects only google search obviously.
  2. Well there aren't millions of free C/C++ IDEs out there and I think you've rounded up the suspects pretty well. AFAIK installing any of those won't do any damage to your system so I guess it's a matter of trying and see what works and what doesn't by trying to compile simple "hello world" programs. There is also Lazarus but that's Pascal, not C++.
  3. Check out this topic:
  4. It's checked here and I have no issue but I use Gimp 2.8. When I had Gimp 2.6 I had to uncheck it too.
  5. Thanks for the info !! Loblo, by the way - do you have the latest flashplayer installed and does the control panel work on ME ?? If not, could you - as the king of the hex'er look into it ? Haha, didn't notice this post before so sorry for late reply. Latest Flash works but it's control panel doesn't and doing something about it is way above my league I am afraid. My lame hex hacks have their limits, nothing to do with real stuff a la Xeno, Tihiy or Jumper.
  6. For simple but good free WYSIWYG Html editor, check out Blocknote: http://blocknote.net/
  7. Perhaps you'd be better off using CHM Editor which is very cool (WYSIWYG Html editor) and very easy to use. It's a commercial demo who is supposed to expire after 15 days but I have it since about two years now and it always tells me I've got 15 days left. If you can leave with a nag screen on program startup and the fact it doesn't let you "save as" (but you can save, no problems) which is apparently its only limitation, then this is the way to go IMO. Link to a 2010 version which works OK on 9x/ME unlike the latest: http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20100708085201/http://www.chmeditor.com/?
  8. Unless I am completely mistaken, as I don't use that OS, I think XP uses a slightly different location which is HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment.
  9. On the subject of Windows Me environment variables, my understanding is that WinME uses both autoexec.bat and the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment registry key for setting environment variables. In case autoexec.bat entries aren't getting set, it will suffice to run msconfig which will automatically copy the autoexec.bat entries into the registry and they will sure be set at the next reboot.
  10. Sounds like a wininit error message, it means that a source file cannot be found and so the target cannot be upgraded. There might more specific info in the wininit.log file.
  11. You didn't look hard enough did you? http://woolyss.com/chipmusic/chipmusic-soundfonts/OPL-3_FM_128M.zip Those standalone players might be of interest too: http://www.pokipoki.org/dsa/index.php?EMU%20de%20MIDI http://milkpot.sakura.ne.jp/fmmidi/ http://www.pokipoki.org/dsa/index.php?EMU%20de%20MIDI There is Timidity also of course and you'll probably find some more stuff by digging those links: http://www3.telus.net/anapan8/oldscardemu.htm http://soundshock.se/phpBB2/index.php Try to do better homework next time, it's not so hard using a search engine such as google, is it?
  12. If you just want to play midi files than I'd go for xmplay which has got a good midi plugin using soundfonts. If it's for sequencing then virtual midi cable such as hubbis loopback or midiyoke and a vst soundfont player in a micro host such as savihost.
  13. As I wrote in the other thread (the Audition 1.5 one), Audition 1.5 doesn't run under 9x. You will have however no problems running 1.0 which is essentially a repackaged CoolEdit Pro 2 and can be used under stock 9x/Me AFAIK. That's what I would suggest, find yourself Audition 1.0 or CoolEdit and use that.
  14. You mean this one? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/ If so, click on the "view other versions" link and install v0.3.
  15. Oh my! I'm glad I am a Win9x only user too.
  16. There is also an equivalent HKCU MozillaPlugins key were Flash path could eventually be. Finally there are the browsers's own plugins directories. That should sum it all up. As for the OP's "problem" in Opera, it's most likely just the plugin on-demand setting that is enabled I would guess.
  17. AFAIK the latest version running properly under 98/ME is 2.04. Filehippo does a great job at archiving old versions of software but are often rather inaccurate in the OS requirements they mention. Not sure why people are so eager to use v3 as v2.04 does such a great job. Btw schwups has posted the Win ME iphlpapi functions before I had the time to do it myself, thanks schwups.
  18. Don't think for a second that because an as***** posts garbage like that this reflects the general attitude around here concerning your wonderfull gift to the 98/ME community which I personally cannot be thankfull enough for. It's a bit sad however that you seem so bitter about such rare and isolated events that you're glad of having left us... I am sure you've received more kudos, thanks and praise around here than swears and disrespect by a large proportion. We love you, you and what you've done for this community, xeno, no mistake about it.
  19. That's what I do and it works fine here, perhaps hardware requirements are different between your two versions and you're below them with the latest one, thinking about SSE2 CPU here.
  20. Hi loblo, If that's true, then something's wrong with my system (hey, that's a distinct possibility!). I checked them all with 'ktree9'. Joe. There must be something wrong then as: DecodePointer EncodePointer VerifyVersionInfoA VerSetConditionMask and perhaps others as those are only those I immediately spotted by looking at your list. I've just checked the 4 of them in Ktree and they all appear here.
  21. Audition 1.5 doesn't work AFAIK (I tried some time ago and installed the demo succesfully if remember correctly) but 1.0 should as it's little different than CoolEditPro 2 which runs under stock 98/ME.
  22. Hi jumper, I've recently compiled a list of missing API's in a bunch of bits and bobs that don't presently work : [KERNEL32.DLL] "FlsAlloc" "FlsGetValue" "FlsSetValue" "FlsFree" "GetUserDefaultUILanguage" "GetModuleHandleExA" "VerSetConditionMask" "VerifyVersionInfoA" "DecodePointer" "EncodePointer" "SetProcessDEPPolicy" "LocaleNameToLCID" "LCIDToLocaleName" [OLE32.DLL] "DcomChannelSetHResult" "CoGetClassInfo" "CLSIDFromProgIDEx" "DcomChannelSetHResult" [USER32.DLL] "AllowSetForegroundWindow" "SetProcessDPIAware" "GetGestureInfo" "CloseGestureInfoHandle" "GetGestureExtraArgs" "SetGestureConfig" "GetGestureConfig" [NTDLL.DLL] "LdrUnloadDll" "LdrLoadDll" [MSVCRT.DLL] "_get_terminate" [SHELL32.DLL] "SHGetKnownFolderPath" [GDI32.DLL] "GdiRealizationInfo" "FontIsLinked" The next step will be for me to look up the parameter counts and figure out the most appropriate return codes for these thingies. Joe. You'll save yourself some sweat by checking first which of those are already handled by KernelEx. I can spot several at a glance.
  23. I used to have this problem a while back and could never find either the cause or a fix. Now it works again and I don't know why. There was a workaround however and that was to install the corresponding JDK which installs the JRE as a subset of its installation and whose installer didn't suffer from this issue. Perhaps this still applies today. Worth a try anyway I guess.
  24. First Opera calls "NTDLL.DLL:NtQuerySystemInformation=?". If "NtOpenKey=?" is commented out it calls "NTDLL.DLL:NtQueryKey=?" 1. The setup of version 12.12 1707 The setup exit silently. 2. Try to start 12.12 / 12.10 (runs in the backround only) 3. Attempt start and run 12.5 1546 (first version with the internal communications error) In all cases in the log file is listed "=Iphlpapi.dll:GetAdaptersAddresses=t5=", too. The snapshot 12.5 1538 is the latest that works of course without the pluginwrapper. The Explorer don't like "NtOpenKey=?"! I tried running current Opera 12.14 yesterday with iphlpapi4 and it almost starts, it creates a bunch of files in the appdata folder as it should, connects with Opera website and exchanges a bit of data with it and then an error message pops that says: When I click OK, Opera exits without having initialized a GUI. I also tried with a dummy iphlpapi I made and the same happens except that Opera crashes before I have the time to click OK on the error dialog. I get the same results as with iphlpapi4 by using kexstub ini like that: Other values also work but I don't remember which now and other crash Opera as with the dummy iphlpapi. Opera's going to change a lot dependencywise I guess btw as it's going to be using chrome as its rendering engine in the near future. (from bad to worse) Edit: There doesn't appear to be a plugin wrapper executable either in this version btw.
  25. Download the portable version and after installing it, copy the NPSWF32.dll over the one in WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Macromed\Flash or in the plugins folder of your browsers. http://portableappz.blogspot.co.uk/2011/03/flash-1021531-10318042-plugins.html
