Never heard of Office 2007 64-bit. Can you post a link to an MS site that says it exists?

Slipstream dotnetfx into WinXP
spacesurfer replied to The Forum Troll's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yes, you can download the .NET all-in-one x86 addon and use nLite to integrate into XP SP3. You should not extract the .7z file. Just add the .7z file to the link of updates. No problems here for me. -
Using XP's diskpart utility will never work. You'll have to use Vista's diskpart utility. The reason is in the way they create the MBR. XP puts ntldr in the MBR and hence, when you start up, it's say missing ntldr. Vista uses bootmgr, the same as Windows 7.

I got my 64-bit key from https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pr...us/default.aspx. It works now. Download doesn't work but I've already downloaded it from a direct link. Edit: Don't waste time trying to figure what the keys are. It seems there are only a total of 5 or 6 keys that activates all. Go over to mydigitallife.info to get the list of these keys.

It's a good thing why some posters in this thread are retired. You know what they can, "Can't teach an old dog new tricks." I guess when you get to that retirement age, you like things the way they always were. Sooooo.... that doesn't mean keep things as they were. Some people **CAN** HANDLE change and ADAPT to new way of doing things. Hey, it might actually be faster. Gosh, if we didn't improve, we would still be getting out of our car and winding up the engine! So, come on. Quit posting the same old crap about MS this and MS that. If you don't like it, don't use it. Simple.

I use the all in one x86 pack link given by Strel, but with nLite. It works great. Haven't had a problem. You can also extract it and install it manually that way as well after the installation instead of integrating into the source. -
Recent Items - mysterious items appearing in recent items
spacesurfer replied to rivista's topic in Windows Vista
Only files such as word documents, pdf documents, text documents show up in that menu item. Programs should not show or nor do folders. my guess is they were opened previous and those items were never removed. but we really need to know what kind of items are showing up in there..... -
with vista clean install, it's not possible because vista will always assign itself letter c:\. you will notice that during vista install, all drives show up with drive letters unassigned. for windows xp, you need to use a third party partition utility to set the partition as active if you want it assigned letter c:\

What is new in office 2007 vs 2002?
spacesurfer replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Microsoft Office
Stick with 2002. The ribbon user interface is new - the whole menu system has been changed. 2007 has more pre-built templates like Header/Footer, Text Box presets, etc. The Equation Editor is completely new. there lots of stuff new but nothing that you're missing from 2002 right now. -
Ummm, did you read his whole post? I answered his second question.

What happened to perpendicular recording technology? It was supposed to be a big thing and I saw some seagate drives but never hear about it anymore. I've never seen HDD's touted that they're perpendicular vs the traditional (whatever they were called.) Is it because they are all perpend. now or it didn't pan out.

Check out the Core i7 920 for 229 USD at Fry's. That's an incredible price. Edit: sorry folks, I think it's only local (in Atlanta, Georgia only).

whats the CLSID of the current user's Desktop?
spacesurfer replied to Leeoniya's topic in Windows XP
Curiously, if you type %userprofile%\desktop, it displays the special icons. But if you type %userprofile%, then double-click on desktop folder. it does not work. -
I had a problem with a CD-rom drive not being recognized on boot. It took 5 mins before it booted. After removing it, solved the problem. it can take as long as it wants, basically. check your event log - that's where i found the problem that the cd-rom drive was faulting.

Try searching for an uninstallation program. You may find a free one that can list programs installed and help you uninstall them. Or if you have system restore enabled, try to restore before the point you installed. Or try to reinstall it then uninstall it. It could have been a corrupt installation.

whats the CLSID of the current user's Desktop?
spacesurfer replied to Leeoniya's topic in Windows XP
I don't think the desktop has a CLSID cause it a REAL folder, not a virtual folder. Have you tried %userprofile%\desktop in the command prompt. It works in Vista and shows all the special icons. -
To set the record straight, it's not really VISTA. It's the other apps that aren't ready from prime time, according to you. 64-bit is the future and you can either adapt now or later. Many apps are available and many will be coming. Many 32-bit apps work in 64-bit OS as fast as in 64-bit OS.

Yes, but no one to date has created a all-in-one security updates pack that can be integrated with vlite. One must find and download all updates manually and then integrate them.

ImageX does not skip *.mp3, *.zip and *.cab. It excludes *.mp3, *.zip, and *.cab from compressing them, thus saving time, but they are included in the image UNLESS YOU SPECIFY TO SKIP THEM. It wouldn't be wise to skip *.cab as drivers might be in those files.

Downloading Vista Hotfixes and integrating usingvLite
spacesurfer replied to housry23's topic in Windows Vista
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx. Choose Vista as your OS (x86 or x64). Then choose SP1 if you want ones released after SP1. -
My personal experience in Virtual PC is Windows 7 installed much faster (it doesn't go through the performance score calc saving time) and boots faster than Vista (exactly how much I don't know). After that, it's anybody's guess if its faster. I didn't notice that Word 2007 loaded faster in Win 7 than Vista sp1. I tried a vLited Win 7 on a physical system (my IBM T42 laptop) and had one issue I couldn't deal with - when playing videos, it would freeze. It's no doubt video driver related. Right now, Win 7 is better in virtual machines.
-
might be a driver issue as a physical system has to load more drivers than a virtual system.
