  1. I REALLY don't like the new system tray on the taskbar. I'm having a problem with the firewall and task manager icons to always show. It just reverts back to hiding.
  2. Well, I've noticed that Windows 7 creates a 200 MB partition before the system OS partition during the install process in virtual machine. In the newer builds, the partition size is 100 MB. With the most recent build, I chose to remove all partitions and install, and when I did that it said windows 7 may create additional partitions and again it did a 200 mb partitions, which is hidden from "computer". There's a way to prevent Windows 7 from creating this partition without the need to third-party partition tools or an XP/Vista CD. 1) Start Windows 7 setup. 2) Once it has started, press Shift+F10 to start the command prompt. 3) Start diskpart and create a primary partition of the size you need. Or, if you don't want to partition, format your drive. Make sure you format the primary partition so that there is no unpartitioned space before the partition where you want to install Windows 7. 4) Exit diskpart. 5) Continue with setup and choose the disk. Since the drives are partitioned already, Windows 7 will not create this system partition. Also, note that when you are at the point of selecting a partition to install Windows 7 to, and you choose to format the partition using that GUI interface, then Windows 7 will take the liberty create the system partition as mentioned above. If you do decide not to let Windows 7 create a system partition, be aware of the following: Disadvantages of skipping system partition as noted by cluberti. And now, here's the original discussion about the use for the system partition. Anyone know any more on this? Share your thoughts.
  3. No change here either. It's the same.
  4. You accuse someone for working for MS and yet you want to replace your OS with 2003 and are using ME!! Hummm, why not just switch to Apple and be done with it. The problem is with the user in this case and you are outnumbered. Initially, I was reluctant to switch to Vista as well but now I find it hard to go back to XP.
  5. What processor? I never had a problem with 2GB and Core 2 Duo. However, I just upgraded to 6 GB for virtual machines - I didn't see a performance gain but I can run virtual machines without a problem.
  6. As long as your XP partition (C:) is active and primary, the boot files will be copied to C: and when you get rid of vista, you should still be able to boot XP via the vista bootloader. However, you may want to restore the XP boot loader if you get rid of vista using bootsect.exe. See the pinned topic about that in Vista section - how to install xp after vista and restore boot loader.
  7. We need to know more about your system configuration. You are saying right now you have both XP and Vista but only able to boot Vista but not XP? What are you drive letter assignments? Are you trying to reinstall or recover the installation? I didn't get whether you still want to keep both or just want XP now?? Remember, Vista boot loader can boot XP and Vista but XP boot loader cannot boot Vista.
  8. How did you *remove* them? vLite? 1) If you, option 1 is to vLite again with the drivers included. You should have the original DVD; I'm sure you didn't throw it away. 2) Option 2: search online for them. You say you can't find them? Impossible. Search with google rather than hp website. As common as hp printers are, you wouldn't have a problem finding them.
  9. I'd go with GA-EP45-UD3P. Check out the review here: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2335930,00.asp. But I'm sure the UD3R and UD3 are just as good with some features missing that are in UD3P, that's all.
  10. Seems they released a new time zone update in December: kb955839. Check that and see if it resolves the issue.
  11. I believe that is the flash security update and you need it. The CAB files for for integrating hotfixes. Try this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en for the EXE.
  12. Don't worry. Whether that is present or not is inconsequential. It's haphazard when it shows up. I think you have to enable "Show UPnP devices" for it to show up but again, it may show up or not. So don't even try to figure out how to make it show up as I have and have been fruitless. (The only time it has shown up consistently is when I have a network bridge after installing Virtual Box)
  13. There's a way to revert back in the latest beta build. Who knows what decision is made in final release. However, I really doubt there will not be an option for icons+text.
  14. Instead of storing all your music in the same folder called "My Music" in XP or "Music" in Vista, you can now keep your music in its original location and add that location in a "Library" called "Music". That library pools all your music files in one central location despite that it's in different drives/folders. Same concept for videos, documents, etc. That's a library. I'm looking forward to this feature.
  15. I'll redirect everyone to your list as an alternative.
  16. It's like that with all new features. You have no choice but to adapt and you get used to it.
  17. Real world experience tells me to avoid ASUS.... they are probably good boards but just because mine died after 3 years, I am partial to ASUS now. I had heating problems in that one. My new Gigabyte runs very cool. I'd vote for Gigabyte. That's a nice processor. A bit more than cheapest Core i7 but a system with Core i7 will cost you more than with this quad core.
  18. Acrobat Pro 3D (8.1) - works Nero 9 - couldn't get it to work after install... errored out
  19. Was hoping to see what's compatible with the beta version and hopefully will be in final release. So far, I have tested the following in build 6956: Firefox 3.0.4 - works True Launch Bar 4.2 - works Microsoft Office 2007 - works awxToolbar - works Roboform 6.9.5 - works UltraISO 9.3 - works Nero 8.3.6.0 micro - works Comodo Firewall - doesn't install Edit: Since build 7000 is public now, I've changed the topic from build 6959 to build 7000 and hopefully there won't be much difference. Edit 2: New builds are coming our almost daily! Please state what build you are working with also. Edit 3: Well, since RC is going to be released to public very soon, might as well focus on RC compatibilities from henceforth.
  20. It looks more like 25 hours (and 14 minutes) jaclaz That's odd. where did you get 12:17 am from. His second post was at 6:17 PM making it 13 hrs as he said. time zone difference? At one point it may have been yesterday and today but today it's yesterday and yesterday. anyhow, it's 13 hrs. haha... not to hijack this post with useless info.
  21. Hummm, you gotta keep manual setup? That's an odd one if you're clean installing. But I did get errors when I removed it.
  22. not ghost 2003. ghost 2003 was not actually developed by norton - it was acquired from another company. all versions after ghost 2003 maybe crap. only reason i've abandoned ghost 2003 is it's not compatible with vista. otherwise i would still use it.
  23. When that user is logged on, they will see it as "My Documents" and other's documents as "User's Documents". This comes from the desktop.ini in the folder itself. Modify that. Although I don't exactly know how it should be modified. You can also try to rename it. That folder can be renamed without any adverse effect.
  24. Virtual PC 2008?? When was that released?
