  1. otf is not the issue. true type fonts (ttf) is the older format. open type font (otf) is a newer and actually in windows 7, all fonts are in otf rather than ttf. seems your problem might be related to your printer. do you have the correct drivers? what type of printer is it? print a test page and see how well that prints.
  2. pardon my ignorance but if you are using a cross over cable, do you need a gateway? i thought gateway was for routers. if so, that may be your problem. i have my two desktops connected with a network cable and i have assigned them a static IP without a gateway and do not have a problem.
  3. it's a limitation of the ISO file system. The UDF filesystem DOES allow larger files sizes. but i think we may be speaking of two different things: * are we speaking of the limit of the files within the ISO or the size of the ISO file size itself? i'm speaking of the files within the ISO and i'm not sure if that's related to the ISO file size limit. i was trying to burn a HD movie rip that was > 2 gb (it was actually 8 gb) and it told me the ISO file system does not allow, i'd have to burn it as UDF, which i did. and I'm sure if i can burn a 8 gb file, then i should be able to capture an image of that so you would have to capture or create your cd as an UDF ISO image. So how would you do that? I haven't done this my self but you need to use something like UltraISO that can create UDF images, then start with your original ISO, then delete everything out (keeping the boot sector intact), then drag and drop your vlited folder, then save as a UDF image. This will ensure the DVD is bootable since you only removed files and not the boot sector. The point is, you have to create it on your own with the boot sector intact.
  4. i don't have a problem on my OLD IBM ThinkPad T42. i think i removed the video drivers but i'm not certain. i will confirm and repost here.
  5. okay, so you optimize the registry and you clean your registry.... and the benefit??? is it really realized by performance gain or does it just make you feel good that it's optimized and cleansed??? i've used ccleaner to clean the registry but really, it offers no real performance gain. it just makes me feel good that the so-called orphan entries are removed. just some food for thought for all. (i do use ccleaner for cleaning out junk files though.)
  6. have you tried chaning the boot order in bios? that would the first thing to try.
  7. Have you tried dragging and dropping to where you want it. I've never had a problem with adjusting the menu and link bar and they aren't married by any means. it does take a little work sometimes but they are completely movable.
  8. Are you saying you actually got 64-bit version to install in VPC? cause it's NOT possible. VPC does not support a 64-bit GUEST. It supports only 32-bit GUESTS. You can remove what YOU don't need. There is no definitive list of unnecessary things as people's def of unnecessary is different. vLite checks for dependencies so it will let you know if you are removing a component that is dependent on one that you need.
  9. If the heart is beating, shocking a patient is not indicated. it would make it worse. shocking is for people whose heart isn't beating at all. anyway, good to hear your dad is doing better.
  10. gas prices are down man! would you risk screwing your fuel injectors with an untested method?
  11. windows 7 pre-beta and vlite worked like a charm. my install size so far is a little over 3 gig on virtual pc.
  12. I'm so tired of this problem - I keep having to cut the power and reboot every time it fails to resume from sleep. No one knows what my problem could be?
  13. I have had one occurrence of the firewall crashing and closing on its own after the update. I had to reboot. Seems the newer update is actually CIS without the Antivirus component. And it now called Comodo Firewall instead of Comodo Firewall Pro. The "pro" has been dropped. Interestingly, I tried to update one physical and one virtual machine from 3.0.xxx to 3.5.xxx via built-in update and it stated there are no updates available.
  14. I never considered using an alternative to the built-in windows copy and paste. Gave teracopy a shot. Although I haven't notices that it's faster than the built-in over the network, I gotta say there are some great features such as * ability to pause * ability to add files from different folder for copying at once rather than having to do them separately. One annoying feature is that it insists being on top unless it's minimized to task bar. Haven't found a way to turn that off in options.
  15. What exactly is your problem? It doesn't install? You get blue screens? Are you trying to install 64-bit from a physical DVD drive to Virtual PC? You know you can actually mount the ISO and install without burning to physical DVD-RW... Anyways, you can't install a 64-bit OS on Virtual PC. Only 32-bit. You can install the program itself on a 64-bit OS, but not a 64-bit OS itself.
  16. How do you remove the public folders from the dialog boxes browse to menus? See pic below (although that's not what I'm talking about, the public folders show up in certain dialogs like when you search for a driver and you chose a custom location.)
  17. interesting instruction, hummm...
  18. in my opinion, if you have sufficient ram (> 2 gb and probably 4 gb), then you don't need readyboost. I don't know much about superfetch. as for indexing, again, depends if that feature is important to you. i thought indexing was nice at first, but now i don't care for it as i keep my files organized in the first place. you probably shouldn't remove them with vLite - just disable them or not use them. i'm not sure how to disable superfetch but for indexing, go to programs and features and click on turn off or on windows features on the left.
  19. These icons are beautiful... but the folder icons just don't match the vista theme. they are tooooo bluish. the default blue icons in vista are just the right blue. nevertheless, some of the file format icons are great! thanks.
  20. this is a great program. love the ease of use. (there was only one minor thing i didn't like - the HDD icons. i like the default better despite that it looks like an external driver rather than an internal drive.)
  21. so have you purchased vista yet or not? if you're looking for long-term, i would probably go with ultimate or home premium because of Aero. is this a new pc or a pc that you acquired that is newer than one you have, cause you will get better performance out of a dual core processor than a P4. regardless, ultimate will run okay on a P4. you might consider vLite for a Pentium to remove many unnecessary components that will make your install size smaller. you can remove manual install files, language files, unnecessary drivers (video, printer, modems, scanners, etc if you have your own). you can remove any services that you know for sure you won't use (like I remove defender because I use comodo firewall and avast antivirus). i remove the sidebar - i don't care for it. you get the idea. you just have to play with vlite. it will tell you certain dependencies so you don't remove something you think you'll need.
  22. seem this horse has been beaten to death. let's move on.
  23. How do I remove the public folder in dialog boxes? I don't use public folders and it's turned off in network and sharing center. It's annoying to see it in dialog boxes.
  24. You need a core2duo processor. they're all new and can run 64-bit. obviously, you also need a mobo that supports these processors.
