  1. I read about Gigabyte's Silent Pipe II cooling tech in GA-EP45-UD3P. I understand it works like a refrigerator to keep the mobo cool. However, I was wondering if anyone knew if the CPU still requires the traditional heat sink + fan or something else is required.
  2. It doesn't matter. A sector-by-sector tool should restore the OS as it is. But what I'm saying is there's more to restoring Vista than a sector-by-sector approach.
  3. also the list doesn't tell you which is vista compatible. remember that xp is friendlier than vista in terms of restoring your image. for example, ghost 2003 can capture an xp image and restore an xp image, but with vista, it will capture but errors when restoring vista. it has to do with vista recognized the partition offset....
  4. I read somewhere on this forum that the newest BIOS update (for Gigabyte) removed that functionality altogether so if you installed XP, you're screwed. AHCI only works with Vista according to Gigabyte manual.
  5. Well just figures this one out. It wasn't due to vlite but my power supply unit. I was using a 20-pin power supply for a 24-pin mobo. last 4 pins were empty and they seem to power the graphics pcie. replacing the psu solved the problem.
  6. Solved!!! It was the old PSU. Although functional, the PSU was a 20-pin PSU and my mobo is 24-pin. I had 20-pins connected and the other 4 pins were empty. It worked but was causing my resuming from standby problems. From what I read, the extra 4-pins seem to power the PCIe for graphics cards. Hence, once sleeping, the power supply unit was unable to power the graphics card and resume it from sleep. I replaced it with a 24-pin PSU and no more problems.
  7. congrats, you win the grand prize for posting this survey/question the 1001 times. one of our fine moderators will award you your prize.
  8. This is not his problem. What you need to do is: Go to "Page Layout" tab. In the "Page Setup" group, there is a control called "Breaks". Choose Section Break - Next Page. This will allow you to start the numbering over for each section.
  9. You don't have to find *ALL* the drivers, by the way. Most of the drivers will be installed by windows. And most of the time, generic drivers will be installed, such as generic video, sound, network, modem. And these will work. But for optimizing your system, you should at least download you video driver and the chipset if available. Sound can be important if you want to take full advantage for higher end. Network and modem are lesser important.
  10. It's most likely your winsxs folder. that folder will show a huge size because the files in that folder are actually not in that folder but elsewhere. it doesn't really mean you have that much data. there was a microsoft blog recently explaining that i don't remember where. you can google for an explanation of the winsxs folder, so sit tight and don't worry.
  11. how did you determine that vista doesn't recognize it? when your system does the POST test, does bios report 2 gb installed? if not, then you probably didn't install it properly. if it does, then right click my computer and check how much ram is reported. also, does your computer support 2 gb? if it's old, then maybe it only maxes out at 1 gb.
  12. Not necessarily. Programs that backup drivers are really for when you lose your original driver CD's or can't find them on the internet. These programs do their best in recovering the driver's inf and associated files but might miss some of them. Whereas the original drivers - you have all the files. So, it's best to download the latest drivers before you resort to exporting drivers.
  13. what's so funny about that? all i got was "google won't find chuck, he'll find you." i didn't think that was funny.
  14. You what!, Haha. You integrated drivers that were exported by a program! Like the person before you said, download all drivers to a folder of your choice and integrate that. Not the drivers that you exported with Drivermax.
  15. well thanks for clarification jaclaz. yes my drive is ncq and hence i observed the speed increase.
  16. Yes, AHCI mode is faster - not a feeling. When I was experimenting with BartPE, I made a lot of ISO's and I noticed significantly faster speed in AHCI mode than standard IDE mode. I would think CPU usage is higher as disk activity and CPU are not always tied together. I'm not so certain however.
  17. I have decided not to run this post anymore for personal/impersonal reasons - don't have time anymore with a new baby, it's a duplication of effort, and MS is releasing too many updates so who cares anymore. Sorry to let you down if you relied on this. If anyone wants to take over, you are welcome.
  18. I didn't even notice the UD3 series. Yeah, I think I rather go with the Ultra Durable series. I don't need 2 gigabit LANs or 2 PCI-e. Besides everyting else is the same and the UD3R is cheaper!
  19. download windows live mail. it's the update to windows mail included in vista and it's much better.
  20. Well, what do you know. I couldn't find a list of contents anywhere even on website. Sometimes what's pictured is not always in the box. But I downloaded the manual and it does state that the bracket is included!
  21. I just happen to notice that today cause I opened my box. The EXTRA 4 pin connector actually does not connect to the last 4 pins part of the 24 pin connection because of the grooves. Anyway, I opened it to test see if my working PSU fires it up and it did not. Something else is wrong. My CPU probably died from overheating. I had a hard time keeping it cool. So... I'm gonna build a new one. I wanted to go ahead with the Core i7 but I noticed that it required the new DDR3 memory - it's gonna get too expensive so I'm going with a Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale (3.0 or 3.16 GHz) with either a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R or ASUS P5Q Pro. I can't decide on the MOBO because the one that died here (P5GDC-V) was an ASUS and it ran hot so I'm like afraid of ASUS but I don't know if they've improved. And my current Gigabyte runs really cool. But the ASUS as eSATA, which I want...
  22. Thanks for explanation. I did some of my own research and it's starting to make sense. At least now I know the specs I should be looking for. I also learned that my old PSU is 20-pin and my MOBO supports 24-pin so the extra 4 pins have nothing in them. Recently, I removed my old PCI-E graphics card (ATI Radeon x600 series) and put it in this one. What I read was these extra 4 pins are used to supply power to the PCI-E. Perhaps, just perhaps, that had something to do with the current events?? But it's my mere presumptions. Yeah, the Antec seems a lot better choice now. Should I go ahead and buy or wait for black friday in hope of it becoming cheaper - that is the question!!
  23. Dude, I've built only 3 systems so far and never considered the PSU as a vital component with certain specs to look for. Hence, don't know much about them except the wattage. Would be delighted for education. Anyway, so you are saying that the 380W Antec delivers more than just the 380W as claimed??? The physical lesson in high school on W, Amps, and volts isn't coming back to me.
