I must say I miss the old days of HW when I struggled with 550 MHz Intel Pentium, some of the rich kids had been buying AMD Duron that was about 1 GHz while GPU, I had S3 Savage 4 Pro, while some started to buy Geforce 3 and Ati Radeon's there were monthly tests by so many graphic cards in PC magazines it was always a pleasure to read them havin 128 or more MB RAM was science mother boards had 4-5 PCI slots one had to be for audio card one had to be for LAN card one had to be empty because Windows had often problems mapping all slots to work correctly one had to have 56k modem it was a pride to have additional PCI TV card, so one can brag how he filled every slot with some tech stuff - today you get it all bundled integrated in motherboard how boring !

depends which you can't use components (dll's, exe's) which call for API's that Vista doesn't have
-
I've personally never encountered insecure browser except when I used IE below version 7 for past few years I'm on Opera 11.52 and the only thing that got me was via Java plugin removing that made it all safe back again I use custom hosts file and I never have any problems ...

thats a good question hard to tell the insides ... but 1 thing is certain, win7 is more decomponentized than vista does removing dependencies make more junk code or less ? all I know that "under the hood" they changed kernel by some by using "minwin" and ofc the famous "superbar" other than that between vista and 7 I fail to see "under the hood" major change

question is... why would you transfer... at all

I'd even call XP 64bit more insecure than 32bit as 32bit will be able to use patches from POS Ready 2009, that will have support till 2019 while 64bit loses support much earlier and after that has NO compatible counterpart to take patches from
-
coz there is no SP3 for x64 the 64bit XP is actually Server 2003 recompiled to client version hence why both share same number of SP's

How big is windows 7 before installation

my apology then he sounds sometimes so serious -
you have some weird issues there 1. it needs stupid indexer that nicely slows down whole system, I'd take any alternative fast search over MS's crap 2. how so ? if anything in any NT 6 you have to do 2x more clicking through menus and crap to find simple thing 3. this makes no sense... both 6.0 and 6.1 share codebase, and 6.1 is most polular of the 2, anything that catches 6.1 6.0 will get it for sure 5. looks ? ... if its so more polished why does file manager have all icons in tree crammed up with 1mm space lets not forget the fantastic scrolling left and right or even better - useless taskbar thumbnails that even don't show enough visual info needed or even better than that - good old useless taskbar button grouping - now that one wins "more polished" award

It was more "not true" to jaclaz's post hence why I wrote what I got with "liting 7" as for result, I think your main mistake is that you use RTM and then integration of SP 1 I always find it better to use already integrated SP 1 in OS by MS as base source for editing at least that way nothing wrong can happen unlike via integrating via other tools as for slimming down, you can always chose what you really need and what not I can give you my RT7 configuration if you want to check it out but I noticed you use 64bit OS and I use 32bit one, dunno if ISO size has different outcome -
is microsoft going to bring out windows 9

bad advertising thats for sure -
actually by switching to chrome they will increase it which was one of things that made them switch
-
and again, from Opera ASA view "who gives a **** what they want" as nobody has right to demand it from them
-
only if you have something to bargain with which nobody has Random people: "release Presto as Open Source !" Opera: "why should we ?" its that simple ... what ?, will everyone mutiny against new chromed opera ? I already see quite many people switching from chrome to new opera even if its incomplete garbage I will use Opera 11.52 as long as I can, but I use Pale Moon parallel to Opera unfortunately at the end it will come to just 2 engines fight for web Mozilla and Webkit Trident I doubt it will ever gain power as it gets updated once in 3 years
-
well look onto it like with Windows OS 95, 98, ME (yes I am listing DOS based ones on purpose) they all went out of support not being invested in and abandoned FOREVER but you still won't get open source of them ever they bear no value to owner (MS), just like Presto to Opera, but they got their money from it (sponsors), and they don't want NOW anyone to have benefit of it for free lets take you invent new type of engine for cars and you earn money of it 10 years later it becomes useless and you abandon it, and now approaches you people who want to use it for their own product/car would you give it for free ?
