it probably adjusts screen resolution while on CRT that would be annoying, on LCD it has no impact I rather see 2 seconds of black screen fading to wallpaper than watching ugly blue solid color with no background and then waiting for wallpaper to load

you should be able to do it via startup BAT/CMD script(after the winlogon/shell crap)

if its 5.1 then its no prob for XP only downside is (I read this on MDL) you need IE 8 (yuck)
