  1. With HP keep it with 800MHz, the 1333 mentioned should refer to the FSB. If you drop in a 1066 module you will NOT see any speed difference but when you use low timing modules you could win a bit there if you change the other modules it has as well. I would keep th RAM as you have it now and plug in some extra 800MHz RAM non-fancy RAM.
  2. I've my "Page File" set to 64MB or so, but some programs could complain about it but to tell you the truth I've no problems so far. I use 8GB in my system so it also depends on what you run on that PC.I'm moving this topic to the windows 7 section as it's not much of an hardware problem .
  3. I don't think so but I've seen strange things before indeed. Take the components out of the case and test them on some cardboard or paper or so. It just sounds like bad capacitors inside the PSU or on the motherboard, mostly on the 12V line.
  4. Hard Faults are mostly not hardware faults but Page faults, read about it here in this wiki. Did you install and updated all the latest chipset drivers? What chipset are we talking about?
  5. I would start to check that power supply unit and re-seat the RAM, if you rule out those 2 than it must be the motherboard.
  6. I must have missed that I thought it was some 3xx series from nVidia. The Clevo based laptop would be the best pick in that case.
  7. Sager must be the "brand" of xoticpc or so, so you will not find much info on that, but when you look up Clevo B5130M you will get a lot more info, it looks like Sony is using Clevo for their notebooks and laptops, but I can't tell for sure. The dedicated video card xoticpc provides isn't much of a gaming card, can be compared with the older ATI HD4650 and that card won't do any, read not the ones from the last 3 years, games at 1080p . The Dell XPS 15 comes with a better video card, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M 1GB graphics with Optimus, and the same technology for energy saving and they have even the option for a GT 435M. Those cards will run most games not that bad at all. dell has also the option for the 9-cell battery; in my opinion a must for mobile computing. Downside of the Dell would be the HDD as it will not have the latest Seagate XT hybrid HDD. Hard to say, the offer from xotic looks attractive too... all depends how much you need for graphics power; if you need graphics power I would not go with with the xotic.
  8. Hello oviradoi, for what will you be using that laptop?
  9. Think again than. What I was asking you is how and what is connected to the ATA/IDE connectors on the motherboard and if you could drop, as in write and post it here, that info in this topic. Faulty connected harddrives and mixed on the same cable with ATA optical drives could get you high latencies too as the driver and/or controller has to wait for the other hardware to "answer". Good luck.
  10. Too old? That PC would run windows 7 nicely when you use it for office and internet apps. But yes, I blame the hardware too.
  11. Now, without digging trough the whole OS, I would check what is on the ATA/IDE channels, so, what is hanging on those ports and how are the jumpers on those devices placed? VIA can be very picky with drive configurations. And yes, Iknow, in XP it would work fine, and that was due to drivers that did some work around. So, drop that info of those drives here please.
  12. Any BIOS option you could switch between power saving mode S1 or S3?
  13. It looks like the video card isn't onboard so you could swap it for a new one. What you see is a common thing when the video-RAM is defective.
  14. This isn't against the rules. It's a know issue especially with the chips from nVidia mounted to the PCB and started with the V3000 series from HP, this is why I always said that nVidia and HP is a deadly combination.
  15. Although I understand most of it (hardware guy here so never did much coding) but this is really specific; I doubt that any one here ever wend so deep into this and it could take time to get a reply here. PM MDGx, he is a guy that could/would know this and ask him to reply in your topic so other could use that info as well .
  16. Was this also a problem before, thus after a clean install?
  17. If it's an external modem a router would be the best option indeed. Use your ISP provided modem; when you have a problem with your line you can still bug your ISP about it.
  18. what do you mean by printing stuff? Printing stuff could show different than in the PDF reader, this is why I stick with Adobe PDF Reader. You must be sponsored by Adobe. I know, Adobe makes great programs, nothing to complain about besides the prices in Mexico (100 to 300% over the USA price).
  19. Looks like a service is coming up after you try to make the connection. From the back of my head I don't recall what services are needed to start for PPPoE but I would start with the telephony service. Just type "services.msc" in Start // Search programs and files and set Telephony to "Automatic".
  20. How is the drive divided? There must be an empty space before the windows partition, besides the 100MB or so that Windows 7 also uses.
  21. Make those 4GB 3GB . Even if you plug in 4GB with a 32bit OS you will most-likely "see" only 3.25GB. For gaming 32bit would be faster in most cases. For heavy load graphic design a 64bit OS and 4GB (and up) would be better.
  22. It's no good that xper didn't come up for his cake, we have to buy him another one when he drops by .
  23. I said "not much", but it does indeed, be sure to use 64kB blocks and up (128 better). Read performance is even good with smaller blocks, write performance is SO variable, believe me it is .I'm sure the OP has small blocks so what he got is normal, that's what I wanted to say although I wasn't 100% clear (forgive me, it was a lazy Sunday )
  24. Okay, so you want to upgrade it? Or what would be the question than? Some special use? Using it as a media center or so?
  25. From Wiki: So, to put that short, RAID 0 will improve READ performance but NOT much for write performance, so what you experience is normal .
