  1. I would de-install the printer, disconnect it and follow the install procedure again that Dell provided you with.
  2. Is this just the inverter or the FTL/CCFL too?I changed p*to in punto; it has been a while ago that I sold my body to women so to say. No... It will take yeas for Dell to get their people tip at the same level. "Now, let us see what the knowledge base has to say...". Really, they don't need smart people, just the ones that can skip and ditch the "customer" (consumer) withing 10 minutes... Tops!.Just simple Q and A...
  3. I would not call that a disaster, some 100 bucks more and you have a system 3 times as fast with some up to date hardware (well, no USB 3.0 and SATA gen 3.).But the price included the 1TB drive as well (I would have kept that one out)?
  4. They are cheap, some 8USD shipped from China, do you know the model name and part number?
  5. For a Pentium D with a broken PCI slot I'd say the final price really isn't that bad. For how much did it go?
  6. Tactical, Put those memory modules to the left, so DIMM 0 is the first one. I see you didn't use your new video card? Reset the BIOS... Start with that .
  7. http://emachines.com/products/catalog.html?type=desktops I would not pick any of those computers; they would do for internet and office apps but not much more than that. If you are on a budget, take a look at an AMD AM3 based system with DDR3. Build it yourself and save some money... need help? Budget?
  8. Bad reasons , just tell us the truth that you want something new .Even a 400W would be fine from the brands you mentioned before... They forgot to ad that extra magic smoke... good link, finally some one that tests the non-highend stuff. I was not surprised that the Delta came out good for a 300W PSU.
  9. Well, how about using that system for other things and get yourself something new? Or "upgrade" what you have now with way less noise and all? A mobo with VGA card and an AMD AM3 CPU with Virtualization Technology can be found as low as 167USD plus some shipping.
  10. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
  11. You are right : I don't believe you. To be more exact, I do believe you , but I won't believe that bigfoots were anywhere near being comparable in speed with SCSI. Unless I am mistaken at the time we were between SCSI Ultra wide and Ultra2 and Quantum ATLAS disks (the common size was 9.1 GB) simply blew away anything else (for a rather steeep price ). Additionally SCSI have traditionally used no (or very little) processor time, that at the time was VERY important for graphical or video work. jaclaz That was back in 1996 indeed, editing was done still on the SCSI drives and hooked to the Fast/Miro cards. The capturing and storage was done on the 12.7-12.8GB Bigfoot versions (and a little before that on the 4.3/6.4/8.4 drives). Now, the biggest problem was the heat from the darn Seagate and Quantum SCSI drives was really high and good housings were rare, that combined with those large Fast video editing cards and you had a system crash every 2 hours If you build the system by the rules, I did not. I don't recall how much the sustained throughput was of the 7200rpm AV SCSI drives, but it didn't go over the Bigfoots. For sure the SCSI AV drives were faster in seek times and random access. those were the days...
  12. I Loved them; Good price and fast, about 12MB/s, for that time and none ever died on me in 4 years. You would not believe it for sure, but at the time they were released I dropped SCSI for video editing and went with the bigfoots. Also customers never came back for a replacement. Now, talking about reliable drives; it's now a HYPE to re-manufacture/rebuild/refurbish drives and push them to Africa, large part of Asia and to Latin America... Most of them fail after 6 months. We here have a sh/t load of WDs and Seagate for sale, but I refuse to sell them.
  13. Nope, you need 2 of the same video cards for SLI.
  14. I would check your switch/router first before looking at the PCs.
  15. The fan motor is fine, the bearings are not. The fan you hear is a non-ball bearing type fan, so, it's using bushings of zinc with copper that sell lubes the bearing. Now, after some time of use the bushings have more play, so they are resonating until the bushings get in place and they stop resonating. if it borders you, replace the fan, if you don't care, it can take months if not years for the fan to get stuck. There is nothing you really can do about it, even using machine oil will work for just a short time (it will drip out any way) as those bushings/bearings are not sealed. All is done to make those fans as cheap as posible .
  16. Check out the 1TB drives; most of them are almost at the same price level as a 500GB these days.
  17. Hello alphazoom, welcome to the forums. The first post in the topic hasn't been updated lately but try MDGx tool first. I hope that helps. It seems that Intel has been updating the drivers.
  18. This is how you would see it in Vista and Windows 7, as I remember it's also the same in XP.
  19. Now I must say that I never got a PSU in my hands that didn't power up unless it was bad, read, already going out or a very bad design. Well, there are exceptions for sure, but when we talk about onboard USB 2.0 I don't believe I have seen anything not using ATX power . The whistling sound you are talking about you hear when there is a short circuit or a bad circuit, again, I still have to find a PSU that blows up by itself if there is no load. Correct, but we are talking about the 5VSB line and that should be around 5V, always, even when there is no load on the USB.Just my 0.02, but I could have been wrong with the last 2000 different brand and model PSUs I tested . Ow, by the way, PSU testers are cheap these days. Cool stuff, and cheap!.
  20. Don't let you drag down because of this; you are just lacking a bit of imagination and creativity. It's also not easy what you have learned to apply well in life. If you are open for it you will even build your next PC! For real, a lot of people never touched the inner hardware before and just started doing it with or without the help of us. You will see .Don't forget to thank jaclaz, remember, he is the guy that always posts a lot of links in his replies and we love him for that.
  21. Check the RAM, take out the battery and open the part where the RAM is placed, re-seat the RAM and check if the problem is gone. If not, use memtest86+ boot-able ISO (CD/USB).If that's not it, the NVIDIA 8800M GTS or the motherboard needs to be replaced...
  22. If you are looking for a kiosk or internet "café" time registration system, than I can tell you that there are none as far as I know.
  23. The only problem is to find something good for 50USD including shipping (that's the price on Amazon for example).Personally I would not buy a stereo active speaker set that has just 3" woofers; 5" and up with a 3/4" cloth dome tweeter would sound much better even IF it was using cheap drivers (drivers as in speaker-units). The M-Audio Studiophile AV30 can be bought for 80USD and that could be interesting, although again, just a 3" "woofer". Now, the cheapest Behringer MONITOR SPEAKERS MS16 are priced at 62USD and come directly with a 4" woofer, but I have no clue how they calculate the tweeter diameter (1.5"?, and 2.5" on the digital series while it really looks like a 3/4" policarbonate tweeter?), but the price looks right, if not cheap. Pyle 5'' 300 Watt 2-Way Bass Reflex Amplified Studio Monitor Speaker for 100USD... That is nasty cheap but no idea how they would sound...
