  1. Try to use another mouse, could be that your mouse is a bit hyperactive.
  2. +1 On what Coffeefiend said; You are already planning on upgrading an "upgrade" so that system would be no option if I was you unless it's dirt cheap like coffeefiend said.
  3. Mine does that in 13 seconds; yup, that's right, I can read the last page after 13 seconds (14 to 15 seconds when reading it as a Word 2010 docx), ... but, the animation (pen and book) is still moving (believe me it is, even for Jorge ).
  4. That's the correct file indeed. I was just looking what the spelling and grammar checker was doing and it complained about those languages that could not be found. After selecting all and changing to English only, saving that would give you a bit larger file. After saving the "English only" file I don't see the 3 page steps, but on the original file I had that indeed. If we want to know all the "unknown" we would need to dig into the resources, I don't think it would make life easier. Norton just digs itself so deep into windows that I presume it's still the main problem here. I wonder if we can/will proof anything.
  5. Right, now, I used the unmodified file you linked to before, but that file has 4 languages in it; besides English it also has a part with polish, German and Dutch in it. Those 3 languages I don't have installed so that would explain why word was so slow opening them as it was looking for the proofing tools or so (close to that, i didn't program the darn thing ). By selecting the whole text and setting the language to English and saving it, reopening the file will take 13 seconds from outside word, and in those 13 seconds it will show the last page (Sure checking isn't finished in that time).
  6. It has been long enough that you were asking questions about how to do your business. Get schooling, stop ripping of people with the words that you can repair every harddisk in-house. You don't add much value to MSFN nor do you help out people so it's time that you look for another forum to Spam on.
  7. Unless there is an option in your BIOS to disable ECC .
  8. No need for google translate, however, didn't know that "vra" was a short version for "stellen". And thank you for the tables, now I feel like I have to pass some more numbers .
  9. I got the same settings, but no animation in Word 2010. Okay, let me attach an example. The book and the pen. By the way, didn't see that you were from South Africa, I would have tried to speak Dutch to you (I'm just living in Mexico ). Ow... err... I should hit this topic more I think . Yes I have, actually, I believe that Word comes like that as I don't recall turning anything on or off.
  10. puntoMX, Oh man, I do need a vacation... --JorgeA Mexico is cheap, so is Brazil. Well, to load the file is just like 3 seconds, but you should not test it that way. When you work in word you see that animation of a pen writing in a book on the left down side, that's the spelling and grammar checker (if you have enabled that one too); When it stops animating there, the whole file has been processed/checked, and that is what I measure. 3 to 4 Seconds to load to file till I see the last page but some 1m04s more to check for spelling and grammar. EDIT: Wanted to say that I use the 32bit version of Office 2010.
  11. Outside word, but word 2010 starts way faster than 2007, let me test it from inside, brb- EDIT: Same time, how about that? What takes time is the spelling check by the way: 1:07 (not 1:17) .
  12. 1 minute and 7 seconds on the rig I have in my signature, just with a 3.8GHz CPU and no L3 cache, time was clocked from clicking the file till it stopped "scanning" the document. AV I use is Microsoft Security Essentials (who would have guessed ), I can't test with Office 2007 (SP2) as I have Office 2010 installed.
  13. puntoMX, I have a Seagate ST3500620AS. But I doubt if the issue has anything to do with the drive itself -- remember that the file took only 1:12 to open in Microsoft Works (as opposed to Word) on the same machine. I suspect that it has something to do with MS Word or Office. --JorgeA Yes I know that your Office install has gone bad or a part of the registry that went out as well. So, you have a Seagate, use their DiscWizard to install Acronis and make an image of the drive as it is now (after you backup your important data in another disc or so) and do some fresh install. You can always set the image back with Acronis as it is now. EDIT: Shoot! Then my Acronis idea will not work...
  14. For what purpose? There could be something better. Most of the gaming mice have extra buttons that could be linked to any button.
  15. Better to export parts of a registry and delete what you exported, so you can add it back later without puzzling where and what you changed.--- Out of ideas is correct, just re-read what I said in my first post in this topic. Your windows registry is messed up way beyond repair due to cleaning too much up (Norton could have had a hand in there, sorry, but I've seen it before). What brand of HDD do you have Jorge?
  16. Thank you guys! I didn't make it a huge party here, just going to invite some friends to a good restaurant on of these days. You can't drink on an empty stomach!
  17. 98SE Vista 1:43 3:25 1:49 3:25 1:50 3:26 1:54 3:26 1:58 3:27 2:01 3:27 2:03 3:28 Use a Code Box (<> thingy) and some ASCI characters, knock yourself out with that .
  18. He has some 15k rpm SAS drives . But yes, for some 145GB space he could be better off using other drives like a SDD (40-64GB for 110-130USD) or SDD with some HDDs for storage.
  19. So, you think a PCI-E x4 card doesn't fit in a x16 sloth? Think again.
  20. You have been digging hard to get to this 2 year old topic. Thank you Maxfutur, I'll accept one from you . I love it when you sing for me! Also I accept that beer from you, no problem... Thank you!
  21. Danke schön Andre. Darn I'm getting old.
  22. Happy Birthday Tripredacus !Have a nice one! Let us eat cake together, or what the hell, make that a foodfight!
  23. Ow yes, I didn't take it negatively, but would like to see how this ends, in a positive way that is .
  24. yes, "can" be unlocked but that's not 100% for sure. Get an Athlon X4 635 or 640 and see if you can unlock L3 cache, better chance with that. To bad if you can't unlock L3 cache but at least you will have the 4 cores (Got my 620 with unlocked L3 at 3.4+GHz).PSU you picked is a bit expensive indeed. And you know the deal... GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5, ultra Mega Super PRO*. Did I miss something special with the ASUS? * 3 Year factory warranty included.
  25. No, I don't hate Norton products but there are "better" options as Norton products seem a bit overactive, but that's just my 0.02. I'll just sit back and watch the show (in a good way ). JorgeA, I see you got your "Mexican" Spanish (Slang) learned. It's just seven years of Mexico for me but I do miss the Netherlands from time to time. Now, I'm just going to lurk around here if you guys don't mind, always nice to see what the club brings.
