  1. I actually wondered if this was on a clean installed windows but I know now it's not, so, would it be better to reinstall all your software first (please leave Norton out on your fresh install) and see what that does?
  2. What version of Word were you using before, and what are you using now? If you can open the file in notepad it must be a rich-text format and you won't be having much options to change much in the document. Your question is not Windows 7 related and I'll move it to the Office section .
  3. Happy Birthday FIZBAN2 !I hope you had a good party there! Soon it will be mine but I'll just keep it for myself
  4. Well, read what I said some time ago, that would be a cheap and nice setup but needs a micro ATX case. Onboard 1080p and above hardware, HDMI, DVI, VGA, optical out, 6 stereo outputs/inputs and some space to expand. Better don't tell where you get your movies and music from, just as a side note .
  5. Ow yes it's badass indeed, played with it some time ago, just haven't test it on more than 2 PCs.I just like the USB KVM setup better as it only uses one screen, more space for other things on my desk.
  6. I almost would say Microsoft Sidewinder keyboard, but, it's crap. I used it for some time but after fixing the contact layer part several times I went back to a simple Logitech keyboard. Fixing that keyboard also void the warranty. Also the keys didn't hold their paint, but I could have lived with that. It would heave been the perfect keyboard for you IF Microsoft used better parts in it...
  7. Indeed, that is what I was thinking too. If a live CD does boots up fine it must be Windows that has gone bad at some point.
  8. xmf, did you try what Tripredacus said? If that works normal it would be your windows that has gone bad. If it's also too slow than I would replace the drive itself (cheap when you do it yourself and it's no big thing to do yourself at all).
  9. Read that again, there are still lots of cheap parts that would be an upgrade at the same time. You don't need to reinstall your OS when you get those 2 things I linked to. Just make sure it fits in your computer housing.ASK before you let a pro look at it how much it will be, if he or she charges 50 bucks then buy that motherboard and video card to replace your old stuff. No use to spend 50 bucks on it while it's almost certain it's the mobo...
  10. Don't forget a network switch with 2 short patch cables if you are still connected by cables .
  11. CPU will actually be hard to kill, this is why you would see way more outdated CPUs on ebay than the motherboards for it. As a side note: nVidia didn't leave the chipset market with it's tale behind his legs for nothing; too much problems in a lot of there devisions, hiding behind "We will from now on focus on our video chipset market". If they would sell their product directly to the end-users they would have changed their name , but they were/are hiding behind motherboard builders so no lawsuit would hit them that direct. Just saying, but that's how I see it. I must say it was the best back then to go with nVidia as VIA and SiS didn't even come close to perform that well...
  12. Welcome the the Forums. Now, about your problem as it really is a problem; The first thing that comes up in my head is your chipset on the motherboard that could be the problem. Probably it's a Socket 754 based motherboard that uses DDR1 RAM. Good thing is that you still can find a motherboard for a Socket 754 CPU on eBay for less than 40USD new. Now, before you go to get another motherboard you better check your Power Supply Unit and RAM. If you have another PSU then try that one first. The RAM you can check with MEMtest x86 (free). The system had his years and is ready for a change... EDIT: This looks like a slick deal, but you need a PCI-E video card too AND an ATX size case.
  13. Bi-directional LPT transfers can be enabled or disabled in the BIOS of most older computers, make also sure you use a bi-directional supporting cable.

    File Sharing

What exactly did you try? Did you disable the "password protected sharing" in the Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings? So, did you use advanced sharing options and you added "everyone" to the list giving read (and write) permissions?
  15. XP does support gameport drivers but it seems it's using the stock driver that is coming with XP. You can use the W2K before as it's almost the same driver model. It should work.
  16. Hello Ibelll, welcome to our forum, but first, before you post any thing else here; Read the forum rules! You just made two posts of a total of two posts where you break the rules. Let's say it in Dutch: "Er is geen Nederlandse versie van tweakUI." (There is no Dutch version of tweakUI). Why do you need a Dutch version?
  17. Welcome to the Forums. Sounds like you have a not well cooled CPU or RAM that doesn't work as it should. How do you keep the CPU and other components cooled? Any pictures? RAM is easy to test with MEMtest x86 that you can download for free and install on a USB stick. But first, check the CPU cooler contact with the CPU.
  18. Ah yes, that would work indeed but it won't be perfect and thus I would not recommend it to a "customer" for example. You won't get it so clean. They should just make it an easy to change product; you can buy the cartridges but not the waste tank/sponge and that's something I don't like about inkjets/ bubblejets. I wish they would push more the solid ink printers (besides the laser ones).
  19. I have one word for you : CAPILLARITY: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capillary_action jaclaz Err... yes, okay, no wiki needed there. So, what do you want to say with this?
  20. Nice they did it that simple on those Canon models. With some other brands to reset it will be less easy. Be prepared also to spill some ink when you won't replace the "sponge".
  21. Time to get a new printer. Why? It's much cheaper and easier. Let me explain you why in more detail. Inkjet printers are programmed to be used up to some, say 5000 pages, before it gives you the waste ink reservoir full error, which in most cases is a sponge (never seen a bucked) system that sucks up the ink that was wasted when cleaning the heads. To get writ of this error you need to software reset the printer, either to 0 prints or to "ink waste reservoir reset". Most of the time you won't find much about this as it's only done by "service centers". When you read service centers you got the idea... the "fix" will cost you probably way more than a new printer... Like bonestonne already said. I've done reprogramming the printers before, but to find a new sponge is hard. There are external waste ink storage boxes but I tell you it's a mess. I use external ink systems and place the printer in something where it can leak like desire. Darn home and small office inkjets, no good word for them...
  22. Too much paste works the other way around indeed, just use it as paint, not like filling up holes in a wall or so
  23. Check the cooler and replace the paste/pad between the cooler and CPU. Report back on what you found.
