  1. I'm debating to myself whether or not being confused at this point is a good or bad thing.
  2. I'm going to second the harddrive diagnostic.
  3. It would have popped up a menu up asking if you wanted to unblock the application's access or continue to block it (because out of precautionary measures, firewalls are designed to automatically block any suspected-harmful activity until instructed by the user or user-defined rules).
  4. 1. Since you're so eager for a cleanup, why don't you try out nLite? www.nliteos.com 2. CCleaner. 3. JV16 PowerTools 2006.
  5. Like enemies during war ? hougtimo, set a password in the bios, and then tell your dad he should pay you each time he wants to use his PC, or let you do what you want with it... it may really work ! Uh, the relationship between a father and son is much different than Bush VS Bin Laden... Also, telling this guy to put a BIOS password and make his father pay him to use his own PC is stupid. If someone did that to me, I know how I'd feel...
  6. This is where the Registry hives are stored, looks like you or someone had fun playing around in there. As for the data on the harddrive, why don't you just boot to a CD and copy the data to a secondary harddrive?
  7. A video card for Win98... yeah I doubt it has a cooler on it. I also doubt that he won't take you seriously on the "rip" part. Start > Run > dxdiag Yeah, I guess it's sad when most of us tell you about 3rd party programs when there's a simple little tool built into Windows. Sorry, we're all used to XP these days, which has more bloat than an obese whale.
  8. Why don't you browse the CDs to check?
  9. My thoughts exactly.
  10. Adobe Photoshop, The Gimp, IrfanView are the 3 off the top of my head. Google helps a lot, too...
  11. And you made a thread about this why?
  12. Removed by self.
  13. I've never heard of a place online like that. My best advice to you is to get an external HD.
  14. Wow, that's got to be one of the ugliest cases I've ever seen. If more manufacturer's put more creativity into thermally and spatiously optimizing their cases than in the front panel design, they'd be noticed more. Antec, Thermaltake and Coolermaster seem to have the best kinds of cases, many varieties within each manufacturer to suit everyone, I don't think you'd need to look elsewhere for a really nice case.
  15. nLite will eventually support it, which will give us customizers more reason to use it, perhaps. Although, I'm very happy with my nLited XP SP2.
  16. Yeah, that's probably why it's not listed in the poll... Just because you like it doesn't mean it is the best. You need to word things properly.
  17. Me thinks they don't work on x64...
  18. Yeah Kaspersky and NOD32 seem to take up relatively lower amounts of memory compared to other products. I'm very happy with my programs and I'm glad you guys are too.
  19. I'd say go for it. I've seen a lot of Thermaltakes at the tech shop and they all look pretty cool. Most cases nowadays have the front and rear fans for good ventilation. I have air filters on mine and let me tell you, you *need* air filters. Mine have collected all the cat hair and dust and there is very very little to no dust inside my case. The air filters are also easy to clean, just take them outside and use compressed air or blow on them.
  20. 19.5 MB of memory here.
  21. Disable the Automatic Updates Service and delete the "KB######" folders under C:\WINDOWS\
  22. PerfectDisk is also designed for huge HDs. I use a trial version on all the customer PCs at our tech shop and they always come out with 0 file fragments left behind, and some drives are *really* dirty...
  23. Correct.
  24. Yes, we also sell a lot of Thermaltakes at the tech shop. Thermaltake sponsors the prizes winners get at our Lan Parties.
  25. Ask them very nicely and bribe them if necessary.
