  1. VideoHelp.com has several Flash and PPT > AVI solutions already. The idea of doing something like that through a web site seems very silly to me.
  2. The same thing is not happening on my PC.
  3. That's just prejudice towards anything non-Open Source. nLite isn't open-source, does Nuhi keep secrets? ... besides forgetting to mention some things in the changelog sometimes...
  4. I've noticed an interesting result of using PerfectDisk at the tech shop lately. When I do an offline defrag (MetaData, system files, page file), it will actually "compact" the MFT zone so it takes up less overall disk space. I had a customer's MFT zone go from being spread 1/3 of the disk to about 1/10. After all having 0 file fragments, everything then just seems so... organized.
  5. You'd be surprised which programs and games try to send outgoing and and whereto. I've had image editors try to send to Microsoft, and didn't realize until my software firewall told me! If you have a router that monitors incoming and outgoing, that's fine, but I've heard that it slows down your connection overall due to the excessive packet monitoring done through the router. Makes sense.
  6. Atomic, I know what Norton is like, I've tried McAfee, Symantec, Kasp, NOD32, Avast, BitDefender, AVG, etc. I also work in a tech shop where people have all sorts of AV's installed. To me, the memory usage is a small factor when considering which AV to use, because it's about how effectively it can be set up to protect you. We install AVG Free Edition for people at the tech shop, but we have Kaspersky 6 on all of our PCs, whereas we also had AVG. Once we scanned with Kaspersky, 6 viruses were found on the network where AVG was sitting for over a year. See, an AV is a lot like a registry cleaner in that, they will all find some infections that others will miss. To me, an AV shouldn't have a pop-up blocker, spam filter or a firewall. That what AdMuncher and Outpost are for. See, I wouldn't use BitDefender because it has so many processes running, much like Norton, plus it has the firewall and etc. Kaspersky and NOD32 however, have the web filter, the e-mail filter, the file system monitor and the on-demand scanner, and they both take up relatively the same amount of memory. Less than 20MBs when Idle I do believe. McAfee is a bit heavy, but their definitions are very good. I haven't been able to install Symantec on my system for some reason, so unfortunately, I am unable to give an opinion on it. Conclusion: McAfee, Symantec, Kaspersky, NOD32. Those 4 are the best IMHO.
  7. Who said I was worried about anything?
  8. First of all, I was calm as can possibly be when I typed that. Second of all, i wasn't even referring to you in my post, I was speaking from a "mass" perspective. If you need 1.5TB and want the latest os, power to you.
  9. It's people like you who ruin the game for yourself. You just jump right in, do the Main Quest and go back to a FPS to headshot people and scream "PWNED!" This is the kind of game that is meant to be played slowly and patiently, absorb everything, take in the scenery, develop your character, buy a house, make thousands, get some wicked weaponry and armor... geez..
  10. MPC
  11. Big Penis, it is referred to as either a joke or sarcasm. i admit it is a bit of initial prejudice towards the common misguided/ill-informed noob, but people don't hesitate to justify themselves, which is fine. Anyway, all I am saying is that when it comes to the general user and not intelligent techies, they will either stick with a non-bloated OS and never hear of nLite, get Vista and complain about it, which is easy considering the minimum RAM needed, or spend thousands of dollars putting together a new rig to accomodate it.
  12. I am in full agreement with PuntoMX. The only people who will run Vista are the ones with the "must have the latest!" mentality, rich people and the greasy-haired freckle-faced going to be a virgin at 40 techno weenies. A lot of people still use Windows 98 for pete's sake! The tech shop i work at, I'd say it's a 6 (XP) : 4 (98/ME) ratio. Even if you have a Dual Core or Quad core or whatever, nothing is coded to take advantage of that right now. So the people pay huge dollars so they can feel good and show off their specs, but they're getting almost nothing out of it. Hell, today we tested a single cored VS a dual cored in 3DMark '03 and the CPU test itself was 2FPS instead of 1FPS. Whoopie. With DX10 and Nvidia just recently admitting how much of a screw-up the 7800 GTXs were, I mean, spend $1000 or $2000, but it's only going to benefit your ego, nothing more. Wait until prices go down. Think about it. As for RAM, if I am not mistaken, the kernel in XP is designed to manage 2 GBs of memory. Anymore doesn't give you any increase. And you say you're not a hardcore gamer, so why have 4 GBs? Vista... yeah, minimum of 1 GB. **** bloat. Wait until nLite and the others get cracking on that. Also, remember ATI and Nvidia are rivals. ATI is currently catching up with Nvidia in regards to the AA + HDR. Some guy recently made a patch for the current drivers which he claims he actually managed to get AA and HDR to work together and stable, too. Nvidia I think is going to include that with the next driver release and hire him on. Their last driver was specially for Oblivion. hehe. Sound card, 24-bit and positional audio. Sound Blaster of course. 1TB of Raptors, again is it just to compensate for small penis size or what?
  13. For it being the best, I sure haven't heard of it before. It may be the best to you since you're obviously used to it, so therefore you suggest it. ISO... lemme see, for dealing with ISOs and other image formats, UltraISO would have to be the best because: - It's frequently updated. - Feature packed - Not free, but it rocks. - I've compared it to MagicISO and it outperforms it in terms of converting between image formats. - WinISO and PowerISO are jokes.
  14. Tell me something I don't know. Anyway, a guy I work with used to write articles for Nvidia News and he knows his s*** when it comes to hardware, especially graphics cards and processors, chipsets, mobos. Anyway, just to hype his enormous amount of knowledge. He and another coworker spent a slow day testing anti-virus products on a "clogged sewer" of a machine and found that Symantec, McAfee and AVG (the more mainstream ones) were the best, in that, each found a few that another missed. That's not to say it's a not a very good product, it just boils down to who writes up the innoculation first. I think that if you use anything from Symantec, McAfee, Kaspersky, NOD32, AVG... you'll do fine.
  15. Dell, Compaq, and HP suck a**. I know that's not good advice, but build your own machine next time, then you won't have to worry about this crap.
  16. I never said IE should be used by everyone, the bigger picture i see, is that IE with windows is easier to use than downloading other browsers! anywho, you have to remember any facts against anything else will be biased, the ones against IE will be biased along with the ones against firefox. i'd like to point out i've since downloaded opera and have decided i do like how quick it is!, but, i personally like the IE enviroment, in my opinion Opera is by far the best, but overal, i belive IE is easier, I don't want to argue, as at the end of the day, its not just me (or you), its what everyone else thinks too:) p.s. i wouldn't use the firefox myths to defend my use of IE, but unlike a lot of people i am willing to accept its faults and carry on using IE (such as people who defend firefox with its faults and opera, all have faults, but people still use them!), however i don't understand how people defend netscape since version 4.7 if your totally against IE and only want to use free alternatives, and complain about the security of IE, just don't use it, its like christians who knock door to door and try and tell people they should belive in god for their reasons, no one likes ideas being forced upon them! just give them the choice and let them decide for themselves, we all drive different cars, even tho some are obviously better than others! what would be amazing is an unbiased comparasion of IE, FireFox, Opera and Netscape. i'm pretty sure they would all measure out even with good and bad points I usually just can't accept that the average joe wants to use IE because it's easier. Of course it's easier, that's obvious enough. There are critical exploits in IE every **** month and that's the reaosn why 80% of the people bring their PCs to the tech shop I work at, because of spyware, viruses, etc crap. I'm out for everyone else's security, not just my own.
  17. I've heard of the Fighter's Guild and the Thieves Guild, but how do you actually get to join either? I'm on level 2 and I have like 350 or so Gold and have Legion Armor, the same armor the guards wear. I'm currently swimming around killing Slaughterfish and collecting the scales for some old fisherman dude. Just outside the Imperial City.
  18. You're good for a very very long time, this stuff rocks.
  19. I stole Steel Boots, Armor, Helmet, Battle Axe and Shield, but when I equip the shield, I don't hold it and it doesn't appear. Do I need to be at a certain level or skill to be able to have it? Any ideas? Edit - Nevermind, just had to equip a one-handed weapon.
  20. 1. Drivers need updating. 2. If it was an overheating problem, you would see artifacts on the screen, not flickering due to low FPS. 3. I have a GF 6800GS and FEAR ran fine for me. Are you maxing out everything graphics/texture/detail wise? If so, this is why.
  21. I'm on Level 1 in the Imperial City as an Imperial. I wait until it's dark and everyone's asleep, lockpick all the best shops and steal Steel <insert weapon/object here> that would normally cost me a LOT of money. Anyone see that chest in the Arena that has "very hard" on it? I contains 500 gold and I didn't find that out by reading the PDF.
  22. timeless, your lack of actual screenshots of how 98 looks when styled as XP obviously makes users suspicious and not deem you as the most reliable distributor for what you're actually offering. People ask for screenies and more detailed info but your posts simply contain a "" as if you expect that to answer everyone. Anyway, I'm actually going to try this out.
  23. 98Lite
  24. Just switched back to Kaspersky.
  25. download the PDF for the Strategy Guide. It's a *must-have* for Oblivion.
