  1. You all want to see just how much better PerfectDisk is than Diskkeeper? Then read this PDF File.
  2. Ok, did some more changes. I went into my BIOS and went into "Integrated Devices" and disabled Sound. This did more in Device Manager than I expected it to. There were "Multimedia Audio Controller", "PCI Input Device", and "Unknown Device". The unknown device was the LPC Controller - 24D0. All three of these are now gone. I assumed I had miraculously fixed everything and went to plug in my Camcorder into the FireWire and was very discouraged to see that it still didn't work. I then remembered to install my updated Chipset Drivers. That didn't do anything again. I am about to try several different BIOS settings in a different section. I'll report back. Well, the changes I made in my BIOS where of the Parellel Port. It's default is PS/2 and I tried all the other while having the DVC turned on and plugged into the FireWire so if one of the changes should spark the fix, the Hardware wizard would pop up as soon as my Desktop loaded. No changes did so. I also disabled the Serial Port. I don't know what this is but it doesn't seem to have affected anything and I figure that the more things disabled in my BIOS, the less my PC has to keep track of. Anyway, I am completely out of ideas. I'd ask you guys for any last resort possible solutions but you'll tell me to go get another card and cable, eh? Cheers, Jeremy So, nothing else guys? Drew? Mac? Treeman?
  3. I have the Home version and don't have problems with it, ever. Keep in mind, I nLite my install so technically I don't even have Windows Home SP2. I have WinLite SP2.
  4. Yes, so am I. However, my FireWire still does not work after I: 1. Enabled Onboard Ethernet Controller 2. Moved the PCI slots one down each from my Video Card 3. Got Chipset Drivers that are more recent than the ones present on my Dell ResourceCD. That LPC Controller - 24D0 still shows up as "Unknown Device" in DM. I've at least confirmed that it isn't a IRQ/DMA issue. Thanks to PuntoMX for that. This device is used for 8/16 Bit I/O. Any other ideas?
  5. Drew, well it looks like I got lucky because I broke through the case, took out some screws, removed some silver tape, a metal top and the cables from the back and hooked it up the cables I usually have my DVD-ROM hooked into, and it Works!!! Now all I need is a new case with an extra drive bay. As for the FireWire and my DVC...that still remains a problem. However, I have discovered something new under SP2 in Device Manager that I believe is the source of my problem. Here is an image. A very hardware-knowledgeable friend of mine (PuntoMX) gave me this info on this device. He points me toward a site to download the Chipset drivers for my motherboard but I have done that before and it didn't fix anything. Also, an INF update (INFINST.exe) which I have also done before and that didn't fix anything. Unless I didn't do it correctly? He says that there are bugs with the Dell 865/875 Chipsets and only an updated BIOS can fix them. I have flashed my BIOS with Dell's latest ROM for the Dimension 8300. Revision A07. I have a few things disabled in my BIOS. Only my Floppy Drive (since I removed it) and my Onboard Ethernet Controller. We are currently having a detailed conversation on Triillian and he is helping me with my problem. I'll report back later. Later: Well, I am now using my Onboard Ethernet Controller. I removed the PCI Ethernet Card and moved my Sound and FW Card down a slot. I also updated my Chipset Drivers. However, nothing has changed the FireWire situation. I'm going to bed. I hope more replies come in.
  6. Having a blonde moment? The link works fine, at least in FireFox.. Nice avatar.
  7. MSN Messenger is becoming too bloated. I like Trillian.
  8. No, I didn't. I don't know how to take the case off this harddrive. HD Image #1 HD Image #2
  9. Well, it doesn't work on SP1 for me, either. So that rules out everything you explained for my case. I'm betting it was because of the poor layout of power cables I used to have. How naive I was! I was about to ask you to tell me more about the renaming you did but my computer doesn't even detect my External HD at all. Your PC at least gives you an error message. I feel weird saying this but I'd love to get an error message regarding my Ext. HD! Cheers, Jeremy PS: It's Jeremy. Not Jeramy.
  10. Johnina2005, I find it odd how you create this thread named "Best ADS Blocking Software", and yet in your first statement in your first post you say who you think it is one of the best. I prefer AdMuncher. How many years has this program been in development? AdMuncher's been ongoing for 6 years.
  11. If it has anything to do with IE, I'm not touching it. Period.
  12. Ok, so... Insufficient power layout may have caused more voltage to my devices and "blew the fuse"? Hmm, our cords/cables have been quite a mess, especially all tangled and spread out on 3 different power bars. Just last night, I unhooked everything, untangled them all and wrapped them around the guard rail behind the computer desk (since I live in an apartment which has two levels to it). There were several things we unplugged and put aside because of a lack of use. So this cable...supposedly coming from my motherboard and going to the FireWire PCI slot? Did I understand this correctly? I've never taken the harddrive out of my external and put it in my computer. Hell, if only I had an extra drive bay, I'd put it in there. Maybe I could get a different case and do it and never have to access my external drive via firewire anymore?
  13. *Looks at the pictures* Holy s***...
  14. Thank you, Shun Di. George Carlin is awesome. I also like Jeff Foxworthy. My girlfriend likes Bill Engvall.
  15. I finally found the BIOSes on Dell's site. There are 7 of them, the most recent being AO7. My new motherboard had AO1. I updated my BIOS and plugged my DVC into my FireWire and.... Nothing.... Drew, how can my devices simply not work with the FireWire anymore? Is the brutal truthful solution to this to buy a new DVC? As for my External HD, I have years of various files on it that I really can't lose.... What has happened to my hardware?
  16. What are these cables you guys keep talking about? The only cables I have are one that link my External HD to the FireWire port and one that links my DVC's FW output to the FW port.
  17. ......... Hmm, I did upgrade my BIOS but this problem was occurring before I did that. I had actually upgraded the BIOS in hopes of it being a solution. Maybe a revert would kick things back into swing? How do I downgrade my BIOS? But I tried on my girlfriend's PC, which has never had the BIOS tampered with at all and it didn't work. I tried what Drewdatrip said. I tried with minimal booting hardware requirements, nothing. I tried different PCI slots, nothing. I tried both cables with both firewire cards, nothing. The PC recognises my FireWire no problem. Only devices connected via FW seemingly are "dead" in a sense. So...about the BIOS downgrade....?
  18. Yes, my girlfriend's PC, which happens to be right beside mine. Neither can I. I had my new motherboard installed by a Technician the other night Got one not long ago. I'll try and remove everything not needed for Windows boot and leave the FireWire in and see what happens. I will report back.
  19. I had to get a new AC Adapter not long ago and I have two Firewire cables and no go with either of them when I have my DVC on and hooked into the FW port like I always used to.... *cries* This inability makes me very sad... 1. New mobo. 2. Reformatted with normal XP Home SP1 OS. 3. New AC adapter 4. Two FireWire Cards. 5. Two Cables. Nothing... If it isn't my Mobo, my AC Adapter, my Drivers, how could both devices suddenly stop sending a signal to my FireWire? I have downloaded Everest Home Edition v1.10 and copied all potentially relevant details about my FireWire card.
  20. I have a new FireWire card which is detected by both PCs. Neither the External HD or the Digital Video Camera get detected on either machine. HOW can both deviced just not show up??? How do I fix this?
  21. I will test my hardware on my girlfriend's PC tonight and report back.
  22. Heh, I downloaded AudioGrabber for my girlfriend to use and an even better one has been on the back of my mind. I'm glad I noticed this thread. Audio rippers seem to be the main thing she gets the hang of with the PC. Well, she can do pretty much anything as long as I show her. ^_^ Anyway, I'll try CDex. I like freeware. I currently use 1By1 Directory Player to playback my MP3...dunno if I'll use foobar2000...will check it out sometime. Cheers, Jeremy
  23. I like Shareaza, and I got two out of 3 connected with SP2 but I forgot the password to my router so I can't configure it for now and that's what's blocking certain needed ports. Anyway, I hate WinMX and mIRC is cool...very command-like...
