  1. Are connecting with a cable or wireless? If it's with a cat5 cable, is the cable good? If wireless, I have no idea. What happens if yo assign a static IP?
  2. Do a repair install. It will see a previous install and ask if you want to repair (Press R) or do a compete install (Press Enter).
  3. Ya, those would be great if you owned a Dell and didn't care if you were leagle or not. You would be in just as much trouble using those as you would a burned copy from a friend. OEM's must be sold with hardware of some kind and those don't even have a COA.
  4. Where can you get Pro for $40? This is about the lowest I've seen ($134).

This is just so stupid on so many levels. Sucks to be you!
  6. It probably doesn't work like XP because it's not XP. Microsoft had 3 years to fix this activation workaround and it looks like they did.
  7. The computer is part of those domains and must be connected to one of those domains to log in. You should be able to log onto the local machine. In the list of the domains their should be a choice for the local machine but even then I'm not sure you can run the programs you want without being logged onto a domain. If you just need to get some files off of the computer you could try bartsPE.
  8. You can connect to a domain with Home but its a real hack to do it. I would say if you are only talking about two or three computers it would be worth the hack but a 180 machines?......absoulutly not. Also, Remote Desktop has saved me a lot of foot steps here where I work. Pro is definently the way to go.
  9. I have never seen anyone use EFS where it didn't come back and bite them in the a** at some point. In other words, if you didn't understand the TechNet discription it's over your head and you shouldn't use it. If you really want to know it keep pouring over the TechNet discription until you understand it. It is the best source.
  10. I've been able to view MHT files with Word. If you save a Word document as a web page it creates a MHT file.
  11. If you use 2003 Server as a server, it is very stable. If you use 2003 Server as a workstation you could lose some stabiltiy. That's becuase some stuff that is turned off by default, means less that can possably go wrong. As a workstation it can be just as stable but by turning more stuff on you are increacing the odds that something could fail. I have seen no advantage to running 2003 Server as a workstation and many disadvantages.
  12. Only when it's really HOT. B)
  13. You can't have the same IP on the same network and that's basicly what you would be doing by putting the same IP on two nic's on the same computer.
  14. My first thought was "Lava Flow".
  15. These are the most expensive I've ever herd of.
  16. Pro has the exact same memory management as Home. There are absolutely no differences between the two in that department. However, Pro does have more security features then Home. I prefer Pro because I use Remote Desktop a lot and Home does not have that feature.
  17. Yes it can. We have bought many PC's with XP Home OEM installed and i always upgrade it to Pro.
  18. I damnd sure would'nt flash a bois by running the program across the network. It's scary enough just doing it from Windows.
  19. Have you tried to re-install your nic drivers? My guess is that something changed concerning your onboard nic (or the PCI bus that a nic is in) and re-installing the driveers will re connect all of the dots.
