  2. i think that he wants to overwrite the blue/white setup screen on the early installation of xp. i'm sure this must be possible because if the command prompt can have other colors in xp why not the setup command line?? but i do not know how
  3. it is said that if you create a 256 colors bmp, the first pixel (top left pixel) it's your transparency color but i haven't test it yet. why you don't use the standart color in explorer, it will look "like transparent".
  4. i think what he wants it's to show the control panel inside my computer on explorer and not like an addon to right click my PC.

  16. @simon109s the OS don't get corrupted with OC, you don't need to reinstall it after hardware changes, the errors you see are corrected downclocking the cpu and it will boot fine. a couple of tips: * first change your ram fsb to "by spd", the ram fsb over the cpu one doesn't represent any perfomance improvement, only a bottleneck. * reduce your vcore voltage and reset all the settings to optimal, then increment your cpu fsb from 3 to 3. at any moment the os will not boot, then reduce your fsb from 1 to 1 until the os boots and it's stable. if you want some more OC increment 0.5 your multiplier and check again... in conclusion your vcore MUST be minimal (more voltage means more temperature), your ram MUST be ALWAYS by spd, and make minimal changes until test (fsb +3mhz, multiplier +0,5, vcore +0.25v ...). finally the oc it's better if your fsb it's higher and not your multiplier. another time i recommend you to search for a guide
  17. @prathapml thanks, i didn't know anything about the indians until today anyway i'm sure that Alanoll didn't want to offend you, i think he only talks about he knows. offtopic: can you translate me what does it mean "Mundian to Bachke" from Punjabi MC
  18. if you have 2 differents HD you could benefit by having the VM page file on D: and the xp system core on C:, specially if drive D: it's faster or equal to C:. it's because when the system tries to read/write on the disk it has to do it on separate IDE channels and that speeds the system a bit, so C: XP+D3 and D: pagefile.sys
  19. what?? you mean you have overclocked your 2200+ to 2,2Ghz?? if so it's very common that you got problems with your OS. it's a hardware problem and not about your memory, you have overclocked your processor fsb from 133 (x13,5) to 200 (x11) mhz that makes the OS very unstable. this is a HUUUGE increase and that prove that geil memory it's a good election because with other memory module the pc won't have booted. becareful with overclocking because if you don't know what are you doing it's probably that you could burn your processor. first i recomend you to leave all the settings in your bios by default (i got the same MB go to your bios and leave all the settings in optimal). then if you still want to overclock find a good guide, forget the 200fsb sync if your default fsb it's 133 and consider to be lucky if you don't have burned your processor.

  22. i've got some ideas of what i could start doing but i don't know if they will work... 1.- we must log on HD XP as an administrator... we can try to boot from DOS (safe mode with command line) and add a registry setting to show the administrator account on windows logon (hope it isn't damaged). with this command line "REGEDIT /S filename.reg" (without quotes) add this setting to your registry (you know copy the text to notepad and save it like filename.reg on a guest account): NOTE: "Administrador" it's the equivalent to "Administrator" in my language, may be yours could be different 2.- if all goes well we can log in like an administrator, the next step it's to copy the "Documents and Settings" folder to anywhere with easy access. 3.- now that you are an admin create a new account with admin priviledges with the same username as before for example "Wai_Wai". 4.- reboot from pure DOS, WinPE, Knoppix (linux livecd) or something that don't mess with the HD XP and overwrite your "Documents and Settings\Wai_Wai" with the easy location one. 5.- try to logon like Wai_Wai and check if it works, if not i don't know what more to try... to restore the old accounts (but you still are an administrator with access to all the files... ). please tell me if all of the above helped in someway
  23. WMP10 it's still on a beta stage and i read somewhere it will be included with longhorn (because it's implemented in longhorn betas). i'm not sure of it because longhorn will appear in 2 years or so and WMP will progress a lot in 2 years. maybe a xp sp3 will include it??
  24. i've got many solutions to your problem, the first one (and easiest for me) it's to create (or find on the net) a WinPE edition with CDR software and SATA drivers to boot from the CD and burn all the files you want to a CDRW. if you decide to create your own the first step it's to check www.nu2.nu, i built my own basic version with nero in a few hours. if you don't have a CDR drive follow the same steps but don't add the CDR software and add a freeware file manager and use LAN to connect it to other PC, copy necessary files on the other PC and return dell their trash! if you don't have a CDR, and don't have a LAN: look for someone with a motherboard that supports SATA, extract the HardDisk and connect it. boot from the local HD and copy files from before connected SATA to local, burn them etc. there are many variations of these methods i'm sure you will find the solution. if all of the above did not work (i don't recommend it), boot from PE with SATA drivers and copy files from HD to A: if they are small and not a lot of them. hope it helps ps: i've found latest version of WinPE here http://www.nu2.nu/download.php?sFile=pebuilder3032.zip
  25. @ITMAN very well explained and welcome to this forum!
