  1. @catman915, you may benefit from this site http://unattended.msfn.org as it does contain details on installing methods mentioned above
  2. thanks spazmire11, that's pretty much what i thought. I tried the nlite addon packs, but none use swicthes as they are built into the created packages. looks like a learn and try, which could take a while!! I just thought it would be nicer to install apps here so will def be for all users not just HKLM\CU. might look at xplode or keep with runonceex.cmd then
  3. cheers, boooggy but that site doesn't explain how to use svcpack.inf to install apps other than WindowsMedia Player, and then it isn't wholly accurate with details, it says no switches need, when quite obviously they are. It does explain how to use, [guirunonce] / runonceex.cmd even WPI & xplode briefly. But i wish to install Applications from svcpack.inf / t-13 like acrobat, winrar etc
  4. Hello, I've noticed that people are able to install some apps via svcpack.inf along with hotfixes. How do people do this? Is it a case of add program file to folder, open svcpack.inf add filename and switches and hope your app installs - can see that taking a long time for all apps................. OR is there more to it than that. I am aware that RogueSpear has offered out some silent msi installers that install via svcpack.inf, but having looked at these i noticed that in his re-packaging it uses no switches and i want to learn. So, does anybody know how to do this? know which applications do install and how? NeilW P.S: I looked through 50pages yesterday and couldn't see anything, and nobody used svcpack.inf and very few used T-13 in topic title. P.P.S: I did search but didn't see an answer or pointer
  5. i like them both, prefer the top one though
  6. cool, thanks for the update. i'll see if i can test and will let you know.
  7. 1st - would have been better to post in correct area 2nd - read the sticky provided by RogueSpear; [How To] Unattended RIS Installs V2 3rd - you cannot use DoOldStyleDomainJoin in 2003 ris - it is mentioned in other topics 4th - calm down. i don' understand all of your problem, please try to explain slowly. 5th - did you use RISTEUP or RIPREP
  8. Are you doing the RIS from a windows 2000 or 2003 server as the DoOldStyleDomainJoin = Yes works with 2000 NOT 2003 reading other topics. Seems that it has to be done slightly differently, not sure how though. hope it helps
  9. ah, but if you open the $winnt.~ls$ folder it also contans the $OEM$\S1 structure so anything installed via that could otentially be an issue. At least you've found the problem, enjoy tryig to fix
  10. @Daemonforce, have you tested your theory? and did it work correctly?
  11. does the cab actually exist at either source? if not, i would say that is your issue. if it is installed, has the source location changed and yyou need to point to new?
  12. @myno, do you get this when testing in vmware or on 'real' pc's? as i noticed that it does happen more frequently in vmware and that an app can potentially cause if installed from the $oem$\$1\install folder, as fencer128 pointed out if an app doesn't install correctly, in my case ZoneAlarm. Doing an MS or google search shows nothing, but ~bs is used for teh temp boot area when building.
  13. however now that all search engine companies have to submit all search results to the US Government, i think the number of people using them will slowly go down, as big brother is not my friend in all cases. See link for info, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4821858.stm
  14. how did these people get through kindergarten..............
  15. it still had folder after rem'ing out ZoneAlarm, so did it live and no issues at all - must be a vmware thing, but no idea why as not seen before. if I notice a particular cause & resolution will reply.
  16. thanks biohead, if you know where i can get PIII SLOT1 processors from an upgrade is possible, cost thing, and the dvd i'll get at time as not needed at present. (need to be UK sites though)
  17. i understand you quite happily and think that WPI will do as you wish. Though not knowing how you do your app installs, not sure how you would start this. Basically i see it being launched towards the end of your build, people check those extensions they wish to use, it installs only them and continues with your build. It is normally run at first login, which is administrator, but if you placed as a runonce for each user, then it would still work. oioldman WPI - Windows Post Installer (shold be in Member Contributed Section)
  18. great guide and thanks for information. Probably the easiest way to install FF yet. though i've noticed it works only from local drive and not across lan, or at least in my case. OiOldman
  19. Guys, I'm wondering what spec peoples PC is that are currently testing the BETA versions, as I think an upgrade of my PC will be needed, but want to know what the real world users are running so i can gauge the potential cost of new/upgrade to PC. I currently run a DualPIII 450MHz, 512MB RAM, 64MB AGP NVidia, Intel Pro 10/100MB NIC, Plextor CD-RW, 80GB HDD. No Soundcard as have a PS2 & Stereo so not needed/wanted/required. Will this cope or will i need major changes? Cheers for thoughts
  20. nice guide roguespear, and thanks for the time and effort. now just need to find time to fully follow and expand my knowledge
  21. Andy, Thanks for the assistance. Did try with out those being installed and still had same issue. Then remembered that ZoneAlarm doesn't always reliably install ocross lan, so rem'd those lines from runonceex.cmd and no issues. Am doing again to confirm, but thought i'd provide a progress update. cheers, neilw
  22. looking at this; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=913807 it would appear you don't need KB892843 as the same file, Olkintl.msp, is in both updates. hope it helps
  23. Hello All In a painstaking way i bring a 3yr+ topic back to life. I need a new Keyboard so I can use vmware with confidence - am working towards mcse and decent keyboard will help I currently have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Multimedia Keyboard, which due to marketing has no Insert key of it's own, plus a bunch of unwanted extra usleless keys. It's attached to the PrintScrren & SysRq key and no ampunt of toying will give me Insert mode, SO, I'm after a good quality wireless keyboard that has an Insert key. I've looked at MS & Logitech and they don't provide in a wireless, not keen on Cherry. Thanks for any suggestions and guidance. as in the pics below, left = wrong right = correct
  24. OK, Hopefully i've managed to attach a .jpg of the folder structure and a copy of .sif with details removed where necessary. Knowing my luck, the answer is obvious, but i can't see and thanks for helping. NOT using riprep either, if i didn't make clear before. Snow over last few days must have been fun.... OiOld apps.sif
  25. Hi Fencer128, I used risetup to create the original folder structure then added the $oem$ structure and modified the .sif as required. It worked with no issues and i'm not aware of having done anythng to cause this sudden change. RIPREP - never used - not keen on it. oioldman
