  1. potentially a scratched disc, or cd-rom drive is packing up.
  2. @breadandbubbles - that is one seriously good looking keyboard shame it doesn't mention prices as i wouldn't mind replacing my knackered old ones
  3. @XL-DJK95355 - yes you can activate your pc, backup the key single file and then replace said file after re-install via safe mode. This will only work if no major h/w changes have been implemented since, ie: cpu, mainboard, graphics, memory etc I also believe it has been mentioned and answered before under the Unattended topic section
  4. i thought it was an option in outlook express to show/hide messnger contacts, i know it is outlook and i don't think contacts list is held by you, it is held on the msn servers, because it will list your contacts if you logon msn anywhere
  5. it should be this=> start "title" /min /wait "program/command" as taken from doing a start | run | cmd /k start /? and reading through the switches there
  6. no it shouldn't give any issues if use the mozilla=1 switch as well [edit] you say the iexplorer=1 works. Can you just check for me please and clcik control panel | java | Advanced | open <APPLETT> support and o you have a tick against IE? If no then the switch i don't think worked, if yes then i've no idea what i'm doing wrong as use teh same switches [/edit]
  7. install and run Anti Spyware s/w - SpyBot Search & destry or Ad-Aware Virus s/w - McAfee or Norton after having updated them fully Then install something like netnanny so you can restrict the sites he can visit or just ban him from the computer
  8. @solidas, if you run taskmanager, you'll notice a process called jusched, that is the update function, and it runs all the time regardless of the time update set. Also if you go to this site: http://java.com/en/download/help/silent_install.xml It gives an explanation of what switches to use. They only seem to work with the .exe not with the extracted .msi file though - at least i can't get them to work with the msi
  9. having a quick look, you'll notice the shortcut can have a different icon, so right click | Properties | Change Icon Notice your location, it is in the theme folder It may be that this needs to be updated in your sfx, or reg key
  10. @gosherm, exactly they way my head was going with that.
  11. so, you guys been reading the deal about sony and it's dodgy rootkit then. Also, why do companies feel the need to decide i must need and want a search toolbar, or is it they think people are to lazy to open a search engines homepage.
  12. get of your horse about google being bad, you've had one bad experience with one particular piece of software. I'm inclined to say that it didn't un-install correctly when you ran it, and go with Zxian, and re-install and then un-install. Also, do you have the folder path still in existence? Have you logged into XP Home, as the Super Admin to see if you can delete? Have you tried to change the startup shortcut that is running and removing the "/startup" switch, as it looks to me like the .exe is their which is why it runs or you'd get a message saying bad shortcut upon login.
  13. read the second link, it explains what your after - Running RunOnceEx from CD - It enables you to run your runonce.cmd from the cd-rom drive as wanted. I know i followed it when i started
  14. just a couple of quick things => 1; is the install folder created on c: and does it contain your start.cmd? 2; is the applications folder level with install folder or inside - as your .cmd is calling for apps to be inside
  15. I've now bought the new SonyEriscsson W800i and it's the bees knees, the walkman is great the camera good, the s/w is quick and easy to use. highly recommended, if you can get one as they are like gold dust. 34mb internal memory and 2gb memory stick duo pro storage accepted and 4gb stick due out, why use an ipod.......... and don't go anywhere near the motorola rokr, you limited to 100 songs max, no matter how big the external memory you use, also it's a big and chunky phone
  16. this is covered steffen here => http://unattended.msfn.org/intermediate/me...s/runonceex.htm & http://unattended.msfn.org/advanced/methods/runonceex_cd.htm so, yes it is possible, no matter what letter your CD gets
  17. @ _chris_; if trying to set as station is built, it will take from .sif I use settings similar to Fencer128 and works a charm i vaguely recall the ref.chm has a list of all keys used for the regions, so may be worth checking the .sif file is containing the correct number of chars for each request
  18. you say your the "I'm the only administrator of my own pc", then state you "switching to the Administrator account ", which would say you have more than 1 admin account. 1; is this XP Home? 2; are you sure your account is administrative? 3; if XP Home, ensure you logon as the super admin user as created accounts are not admin i believe
  19. Sorry, chris, but what do you mean by if it is in your .sif file it will be applied when the PC is built. If you mean to add to pre-built machines, could you not apply a domain or group policy to the pc's with the lacation details? hope it helps
  20. you may find that line=112 is a redherring look below and spot the missing " SysPrepSystemRoot="Mirror1\UserData\WINDOWS try adding the second quote and see what happens.
  21. @solifuge, sorry mate, misread article. The below llink may solve your issue as it mention issues with textmode and cluberti mentions an MS article but not the number of it. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46469
  22. to delete your C:\Install folder, add rd /g /s /f to your cleanup.bat. I think that to run two btch files they need to be placed like this [GuiRunOnce] c:\install\Applications\2003_batch.cmd c:\install\Applications\QT\qtalt.bat the last line of your first .cmd can contain a line that calls the second, doing a quick search should get your reults. hope it helps
  23. hello, i notice that your folders are named, $1$, it should be $1 and your $oem$ folder needs to be parallel to the i386 folder. Is your .sif file located in the 1386\template folder? if not it needs to be so is used. Hope that helps, NeilW
  24. pretty much, but if you use the setupmgr to create you'll notice it does things in logical steps, so i would go woth that and add stuff at the bottom as needed
  25. WPI, does accept the copy command, even the xcopy command, as i use this in mine. I don't have the exact command here, will post when i get home and remember. I do notice you have no switches which might be an issue.
