HD-DVD is dead. Toshiba killed the format. Microsoft pulled the HD-DVD drives from the shelf. Id argue that makes them old.

which makes me wonder if that was the case, if they had the old HD-DVD drive accessory, could it be used to play the game?

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343 that article lists 7 reasons why SP1 isnt offered. we had a similar issue here on the forum that was related to cause 5 http://www.msfn.org/board/Sigma-Tel-Driver...te-t114372.html if its not any of those 7 and its just automatic updates being stupid (like it was on XP) you can of course grab the manual download from MS directly: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en but if ii is one of those reasons on the list, i believe the installer might provide you with an error code that could give you some more information.

as a general rule i leave everything in but just have security center (and a few others services set to disabled by default. that way i can turn them on later. saving space on the iso isnt that big of a deal for me.

I personally manage around 400 machines. I have been working with Windows since Windows 3.0 and DOS since around v4. I'm am no newbie to this field. you however cite the opinion of an A+ certified tech as some kind of expert. By Comptias own definition A+ is an entry level certification. You say that Vista users should recheck their opinion, i say you should recheck the people handing you your opinions. I choose to run Vista on the 4 machines I use regularly. I can tell you that Aero has very little to do with my decision. I will admit it is kinda nice to have something that changes the look of pretty much the same gui ive been staring at for for around 13 years. There are more reasons to run Vista right now than there are not. I've been working with XP for 6 years (and the underlying tech since the NT days) I've learned all I'm gonna learn from XP. That alone should be enough reason to switch. If your are a consumer, yeah you can get away with skipping a version you'll just have to look extra hard to find the 'reply to all' button for your in Windows 7/office 2010 config when you buy your next Dell in 2011 but if you are a technical person that wishes to have a job in a technical field, you will learn the latest greatest technology or someone that is willing to do it will be happy to take your job. The vista marketing hype is just that -hype. Vista is not a huge groundbreaking milestone that will forever change the face of computing but it has enough significant changes to the underlying framework that if you don't learn them now, you will have to learn them later for server 2008/win7. but if you want to cling to your copy of Xp like the 95/98 users on this site that still refuse to abandon their beloved 9x kernel, there will be a forum here on MSFN for XP users long after they stop making hardware the OS will run on reliably.

formatting the drive isnt the problem. its getting XP setup to see the hard drive so that it can format the drive. wiping the drive with vista setup (which this person likely does not have as it was preinstalled) would just render the machine unbootable into vista and would not help xp setup recognize the drive.

If you don't like it then don't use it. but if your gonna trash on vista, at least try to make an informed argument. and please do so in a thread about trashing vista. jumping on the anti vista bandwagon is the new 'trendy' thing for half informed 'technical' people to do.

i could be wrong here but event 4226 is generated when the OS tries to make to many OUTGOING connections but your connections are all incoming. im not sure if a 4226 event would be generated for an over maximum of incoming connections (if it does then an attacker could flood a windows machine and bloat the logs) its just a theory but the tcpip.sys hack might still be worth a shot.

Ive never seen a bios update for an Intel GPU. If they exists they are rare. I think updating drivers is the only thing that can be updated.

if you want to attach it to a PM to me, Ill save it as a 2002 compatible and send it back. its not the best solution but it might be the easiest
