  1. Its this kind of problem that makes me nostalgic for the 'good ol days' when the off button actually turned the power off instead of asking the computer nicely if it would mind shutting down like it does now if it does it every time you try to shutdown and you still have the old 5500 card you could switch back just to see if its related to the 6200 card.
  2. ive never heard of a temp profile before but heres what i would try: create another user in control panel, logout, login as that user, change settings around and see if they stick If it works that tells us the problem is confined to your user profile. and we can deal with that in a few ways If you have no data in that profile (My Documents, My Pictures, Desktop) that you need then just start using the new profile and delete the old user If you have data in that profile that you want to keep, you can find it in c:\Documents and Settings\username and move/copy it to your new profile If you have data in that profile that you want to keep, and dont want to switch profiles, we might be able to find the source of the problem with a little more time and research but i prefer the quick fix myself Its also possible that you will see the same symptoms on the new user, in that case its not necessarily a problem with that users profile but then its a problem with windows and well have to address that differently
  3. does site #2 have its own DHCP? if it does then you would have to set it up similar to site #1 if it shares the dhcp, i dont know if you could use a second server or not.
  4. I used to use a old 2 port KVM VGA/PS2/USB with an ancient 21" CRT year ago on my 2 servers at the house these days i have 2 pcs hooked up to my monitor 1 via DVI and 1 via VGA and i use 2 keyboards/mice we bought one of these suckers for the server rack at work: http://www.cdwg.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=797640 you can toggle it with buttons or you can use use keystrokes Scroll lock twice + number = that server Scroll lock twice + left arrow = previous server Scroll lock twice + right arrow = next server Scroll lock twice + space = GUI with custom labels to select which server I dunno if they have keyboard control on desktop class KVMs but its an option id look for if i was buying one.
  5. didnt find one without a base but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16876101152 could look into something like this though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16876117007
  6. ok this is off topic but you mentioned an airtank and ive been looking for one i can fill off off a standard air compressor and use on PCs but I know ill need something that removes the moisture and regulates the pressure and such or id prolly do more damage than good. what kind of setup are you using?
  7. i had to actually look at the picture when you said bugspray -thats not bugspray its canned air. only thing that looks like a remote to me is the 4port usb hub in the changejar. the cell phone is just charging (its shows up as mass storage but i rarely use it) i used to have the thing plugged into a real charger but every time i had to leave home for a few days i had to crawl under the desk to unplug the charger so i just left the charger in my backpack and started charging with usb instead (is it a bad thing if i have more USB outlets than AC outlets in my house?)
  8. yeah all the Vista hate is usually from people I wouldn't allow to touch my PC anyways. The kind of people that think 'ROFL OMG vitsa is teh bloated!!11 M$ is the sux!' is a well thought out argument against Vista. a word of warning Vista haters: if you hate Vista, you're gonna hate windows 7 even more. you have been warned. honestly the only legit complaint ive seen against Vista that hasnt been addressed as thoroughly as i would like is the 'file copying over network' issues. all the other 'bugs' or annoying features can be disabled or toned down. just like XP.
  9. Recommended Spec fir GTA:VC is P4 or Athlon XP CPU 256Mb Ram 64Mb video Card GF3/Radeon 8500 if you just meet the minimum sys reqs, then you can expect minimum performance. Olny thing i can suggest is update your video drivers to the highest you can and try disabling some of GTAs options ingame.
  10. lots of pirated anime stuff is encoded with real. thats the only reason anyone would use it these days. I see it on way to many PCs that come to me with viruses/spyware for disinfection. I cant count how many PCs ive cleaned that have a 20Gb folder of realplayer anime from kazaa/limewire.
  11. my understanding is that not all forums (funny farm) increase post count. but im not 100% on that
  12. ive enever seen any software with that feature set that is made for outlook. based on what you listed as features, you may want to look at something webbased like OSTicket if you dont want to run a webserver for it or cant run it off your webserver, you might look at Microsoft Groove (included in some editions of office 2007) itll allow for some of the collaboration you need but im not sure if it can be integrated into an email account/outlook
  13. I dont think itll do Aero without disabling some checks with regkeys and such since if memory serves, the GF3 series was directx 8 and aero only gets enabled on DX9 cards. as for whether the OS itself will run good or not, that depends on the rest of the specs
  14. im working on a production machine that had an IE7 auto upgrade go wrong (crashed every time you start it) i just uninstalled and reinstalled and went to WU to make sure i had all updates and it had KB946501 listed as an optional update so I applied it and it failed (i havent rebooted yet since the ie7 upgrade) so a failed update isnt exactly unexpected but the text in the grey box near the bottom of the screen was unexpected: Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer 8 Dynamic Installer? huh?
  15. actually the sub is upside down because the connections on the back wont fit under the desk with it right side up and if they dont fit under they are likely to get broken when i put my feet on it
  16. took these just now while watching the Futurama movie Gateway 24" LCD (Right PC on DVI, Left PC on VGA) PC on right: (new PC) ASUS Pk5 Premium Q6600 Quad Core 4Gb Corsair DDR2 Evga 8800GT 4 x 250Gb WD 7200 drives Antec Sonata III Logitech MX-530? 17. My PCs are quiet too but i find a cannot sleep unless they are running. its too quiet. seriously, when we had power out for 2 nights during the last ice storm, i had a fan in my bedroom with its cable running out the window plugged into a AD/DC inverter in my truck just to create noise so i could sleep.
  18. if you have an AD set up and no patch solution in place you should setup WSUS you can run it from any windows 2003 PC on your LAN and all you would have to do is approve that patch to be installed some or all of your workstations, then add a GPO to configure automatic updates on those PCs and it does the rest. as of v3.0 it is super easy to setup. icemans way addresses your problem directly im just making a suggestion to help you out in the future.
  19. well once they get that new update service in vista working 100% reboots will be for hardware changes and power outages. (yeah i know thats not very likely but I can dream)
  20. Really the question you should be asking is not 'Is this legal?' but 'Is this a good idea?'
  21. I just had to reboot after a 28 day uptime (674 hours) i decided to reboot because Windows installer was acting screwy (popping up trying to install Office 2003 anytime i tried to install something) and winamp was skipping with all the CPU s at less than 10%. before i rebooted, i decided to check my uptime and 28 days aint to shabby. Whats your current Vista uptime?
  22. theres also WUD http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows-Updates-...oader-f147.html
  23. Aero/flip3d does not 'waste power' you can apply that 'go green' nonsense everywhere else but keep it off my desktop. its not like the videocard turns off the instant you disable Aero. By that logic, we should all be running vista in monochrome to save power! Sidebar doesnt use HUNDREDS of megs of ram so thats another lie. i have 8 widgets in my sidebar right now and its sitting at 7,888k and this system has been up for 18 days so don't try to give any sob story about how sidebar itself leaks memory. if it leaks its because of junk widgets youve loaded not because its bloated by nature. the OP asked the community for help ENABLING an feature and you instead give him your own faulty opinion on why he doesnt have it (you guessed that he has Vista Basic) when if you had actually read the OP then you might have seen that hes is running vista ULTIMATE SP1 and that Aero has been enabled. I am tired of seeing people bash Vista who obviously don't have any idea what they are talking about. take that kinda blind MS trash talking to slashdot -youll fit right in. as for your problem Taliseian, you say Aero is on but Flip3d doesnt work. If aero is working fine, you might find some helpful info on this site http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/ basically it points you at this regkey and tells you how to stop/start servies to refresh HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DWM DisallowFlip3d=0
  24. thats Internet Explorer 7 FOR XP Service Pack 2 not Internet Explorer 7 SP2 (no such thing)
