Before buying a new card, check the drivers you downloaded. There are WHQL drivers avaible compatibles with all windows (6.39) but also a Win9x only drivers (6.35) that might be more appropriate. But maybe you already tested all that stuff... :

Auto-Patcher For Windows 98se (English)
glocK_94 replied to soporific's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Oups ! Sorry. Just checked and my files were not updated. I tried reinstalling the update and it ended by a crash so I guess it was in my update folder but didn't install correctly the first time. I'm gonna dowload that again. Tell me if you have doubts about an other update, I'll check. -
Come on, who DOESN'T know CS? Especially here ! Anyway, I agree with you. It's probably not a hardware problem. Try to check TCPview (should have given you the link. My fault). Ok. It's a modem, so you have to connect but you don't have drivers... What do you use to connect ? ISP program or just windows? Hmm. What difference is there between your XP system and your 98. Same AV for exemple ? Stupid question but Norton is not allowed to connect right ? : I don't want to be annoying and repeat myself but one thing to do is to update your system. There's everything you need for that here.

Hi Andreas! (cool, a Deus Ex fan) Hmm. You should really try to update your 98. Apart from that I don't know. Alcatel Speed touch you say? I know someone who had trouble with it. You have drivers for that I think. Are they recent? And to avoid rebooting, have you tried closing your connections one by one using a program like TCPview?

Thanks for the backup Max_04!

Auto-Patcher For Windows 98se (English)
glocK_94 replied to soporific's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Ok...I said I would post a test on my real french Win98 so here it comes. (by the way if you want more feedback, warmer posts to those that provide some would be welcome ). Anyway, I've checked everything and here's what's installed but listed as missing in my report: - q240075: USB Devices May Not Work in Windows 98 Second Edition - Perform: High Performance Tweaks for Fast Computers -> done manually so that depends of what you check - kb913433: Hotfix for Vulnerabilities in Flash Player - kb918439: Hotfix for Vulnerability in ART Image Rendering - kb916281: Official Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 sp1 - q238453: Hotfix for Spoofed Route Pointer Vulnerability - q314941: Hotfix for Vulnerability in Universal Plug 'n' Play - q329048: Hotfix for File Decompression Function Vulnerability - kb891711: Hotfix for Cursor and Icon Format Handling Vulnerability - q323455: Directory Services Client Update for Windows 98 - q310695: Hotfix for DVD Player Program Cannot Access Data bug - q315575: Hotfix for DCOM Program Hangs After Server Reboot - Win982Me: Win98-to-Me by MDGx -> but you explained why Unicows is not listed this time (I can't check on my Virtual Machine as this install doesn't exist anymore) Hope that's what you need. -
Andromeda43 is right about the RAM. Try to get some more. Anyway, about you question: install the SP2.1 first and then download the autopatcher. It's alpha but if you're afraid to use it, there's an option to list missing updates on your system. This way, you can find out what to download manually at MS (or better, on MDGx's site). And if you own a WinMe CD, SE2ME can be nice.
-
The french update is perfect. Thanks a lot for the work Petr! :

If this was true, Unofficial Service Packs, SE2ME, Revolution Pack (or even your 2gb patch!) wouldn't exist in so many languages.

WMP9 Hotfix download Error Starting Program
glocK_94 replied to Using98SEUntilVistaIsWorking?'s topic in Windows 9x/ME
Ok. What the update does is basically update "Wmnetmgr.dll" to version 9.00.00.3204. So you could try to compare the file in the package you downloaded with the one allready installed. Maybe a manual replace will do (of course backup the original before). However, what I understand from your post is that you can't even use WMP9 anymore. Reinstallation didn't work or did it work but running it ends in a crash? Can you explain a bit more what's happening? -
WMP9 Hotfix download Error Starting Program
glocK_94 replied to Using98SEUntilVistaIsWorking?'s topic in Windows 9x/ME
I'll just add that usually, when you hit a NTDLL error, it means your trying to run XP only software. -
Check this out : Wiki page on how to enable this fonts. Hope this helps!

This sounds like a good solution, except that I don't have a second hard drive. Would a second partition do? Unfortunatly this won't work as the BIOS only allow you to choose betwen hard disks and not partitions. So unless you find a disk, you'll need a bootloader.
-
Well, guess your right but I really think this is more a symptom than the illness. Ok. Those here who are parents, you know what to buy your kids now !
-
Another solution (the dirty way?) is simply to leave your Win98/95, install Linux on your second hard disk (of course, that's if you've got more than one HD) and then change the boot sequence in your BIOS when you wanna start linux. This way you avoid trouble with bootloaders and MBR conflicts if something goes wrong.
-
Come on. Playing for hours doesn't make you an antisocial geek. Don't you remember spending night on your Amstrad/Atari or anything you had. The trouble starts when you give up real life for games. But I guess kids who do that already have a problem. Might be their parents, might be themselves but games just reveal it. Anyway, maybe the Wii will make them move and lose some weight.
-
Ok, I don't want to go off-topic but Awergh, if you want LBA3, maybe you'll wanna check this site?
-
Man, my heart almost stopped for a few seconds . Then I started to read... That's a really good one !
-
For me, Relentless and its sequel were both as good. Bledd, you're so right C&C generals was so bad compared to the original. Let's hope the next one will be better. PS. Did you notive, nobody mentionned Doom.
-
Sorry, it's the frenh name of Twinsen's Odyssey. An old game that I really liked back in that time.
-
Yep. As you say, controller and price !
-
Basically, if you liked the originality of the Nintendo DS (with games that make you blow in your console, yell at it and look like a perfect id***), then you'll love the Wii. It's not very expensive and you can have lots of fun, especially in multiplayer. Now if you just want the best graphics ever or the last FPS then stick with your PC (or buy a Xbox/PS3 that will ruin you )

x800 are supported but at beta stage and it's not clear but I think only AGP cards are supported.

I agree but the question is THE best game ever made. And there are good games in all categories. Civ is just my personnal favorite, after hesitating (with apples and oranges).
