  1. Good luck. "Been there, done that." I've basically given up on XP. MOST here have! They'll just use their "secondary Win10", their MOBILE PHONE, or TABLET for the INCREASING number of things that can no longer be done in XP. It's SAD, we XP users gave it a good go. I continue to monitor Supermium, NM28, and St52 - but I can't "bank" with any of them "yet". As always, will see what "tomorrow brings".

  2. As did I. Strike 1 -- my Chase credit card web site could not work in XP --- I cancelled my credit card to keep XP alive and kicking. Strike 2 -- my water billpay web site could not work in XP --- I ditched NM28 and stuck with 360Chrome for a few years. Strike 3 -- my checking account web site could not work in XP --- I bought a "burner phone" with NO PHONE SERVICE and just use the checking account app over home wi-fi and "burner phone OS". Strike 4 -- "burner phone" became too much of a hassle as I "hate, hate, hate" mobile phones --- upgraded primary computer to Win10 and 360Chrome will work for checking account in Win10 but not in XP. Strike 5 -- checking account no longer works on Win10 + 360Chrome --- now all home computers run Win10 + Ungoogled Chromium v114.

  5. I guess you're not using Official Ungoogled Chromium v114 on XP! That's the main problem for many of us here, we want a browser that will still work on XP, and unfortunately the Chromium 86 based 360Chrome is now starting to get a bit too old. Chromium 112 based Supermium has no compatibility problems, but it's very slow and a dreadful resource hog!

  17. You can check if DOH is working setting user_pref("network.trr.mode", 3) - i generally use 2 (check https://github.com/bagder/TRRprefs). Also note that you do not need (and definitely don't have) to use cloudfare, which is the default for DOH -check https://github.com/curl/curl/wiki/DNS-over-HTTPS for a long list of alternatives. If security is your concern, check quad9 (I personally use "quad9 security" at the network connection level, and another alternative, in the list above, for DOH in FF derivatives (including mypal).

  18. Another nice variant, fully working in Serpent 52, is the extension What about:.. 4.15 which can be also downloaded from the Classic Add-ons Archive.

  21. The obvious always speaks for itself. Things that are such self-explanatory and clear do not need any longer to be explained in detail. Apart from that, a more in-depth consideration would be inadmissible due to our forum rules and of no use in certain cases anyway.

  22. Be aware that MSFN has an Inner Circle Gang that has somewhat of a "vendetta" against anything Russian (Yandex is Russian). I suggest everyone to do their own DD (Due Dilegence) and decide for themselves if Yandex is "right for them" or not. Run it in a VM, test for yourself. Personally, I have no use for Yandex. But I have never needed to so much as even try it, or Brave, or Vivaldi, or Opera (beyond Legacy v12), et cetera.

  24. Windows Vista is the initial OS to have Snipping Tool, and what it does is just capture a region (or a window, or full screen) to an image file. Of course, it lets you annotate on it before saving it to disk. For XP, there exists many programs for that same purpose. Good examples are IrfanView (version 4.67 at the time of this writing) and ShareX, version 12.0.0.

  25. If you don't want such tons of toolbar buttons (I personally love this extension ), then the extension More About 3.0.0 is a good alternative. You can get it via the Classic Add-ons Archive.

  26. @dmiranda The easiest and most convenient way to add such an About Menu button to Serpent 52 is to use the Toolbar Buttons 1.1.1 extension. This extension comes with many toolbar buttons or rather tons of them. Although this extension is old, most of the toolbar buttons still work in @roytam1's browsers. One of them is the button about:about which is still working in Serpent 52. Here are two screenshots. You can download the extension Toolbar Buttons 1.1.1 via the Classic Add-ons Archive. I will write an article about this extension very soon. BTW, I already wrote about Toolbar Buttons 1.1.1 and the about:about button here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/182647-my-browser-builds-part-3/?do=findComment&comment=1225677 Greetings, AstroSkipper

  27. Actually, the About: Menu custom button should work in Serpent 52, too. When I am back at my desktop computer, I will have a look at this. In New Moon 28, however, I can definitely confirm that this custom button works as it should. Generally, most custom buttons tested by me should work in both browsers. But, of course, we all know the proof is in the pudding. I have just tested it and have unfortunately to confirm your observation. Although there is the compatibility string of Firefox {ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} inside the code of the About: Menu custom button, the menu of all about: pages does not open in Serpent 52. The button was created many years ago, though. Therefore, it definitely was developed for much older Firefox versions (< 52). That's presumably why it is still working in New Moon 28. But there are still alternatives in the form of extensions for Serpent 52 which can be tested. I will have a look at that later.

  28. Hey,I know their great. I have been using Custom Buttons since way back when https://codefisher.org was created. I basically was trying to get some people here to be interested in forking and supporting some of the Great addons still in the "Classic Addons Archive" (CAA) that still need a new home and developer. EDIT: XUL addons forever. They have the ability to change the browser UI. Web extensions can;t do that. I for one thought I would never leave Win XP but I was basically forced to go to Win 7 and the experience was Great.

  30. First thing that comes to mind: Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, basically all virtual CD drive software and mounting, emulation tools, virtual drives. Daemon Tools 3.47 works in Windows 98 SE, that's for sure.

  31. Thanks! People had been doing that for decades! Of course it's always a risk, warnings are everywhere, including the dedicated topics about the flashing (the only place where one can obtain a modded bios). "the 8600GTS I flashed for him to the Quadro performed a lot better than the 8600GTS before the flash" https://www.overclock.net/threads/8600gt-flash-to-quadro-fx-1700.355437/ Flashing old (only very old generations!) of cards to Quadro is no "lie". Why only old? Because later nVidia made moves against it and issued a physical block. (need to solder some resistors off) Considering the current price of 5 bucks , in my opinion, the risk is worth it.

  32. For Linux to take over, there would have to be new retail computers that come with it preinstalled. Most people just use whatever comes with their laptop (or desktop) and don't bother with installing anything custom. + Installing & finding hardware drivers is usually the most difficult thing when setting up a Linux system. Laptops with Linux preinstalled do in fact exist and they are called Chromebooks. So if Linux somehow takes over, it's gonna be Chrome OS or some other distro managed by a by a big corporation which won't be any better and likely more locked-down than Windows 11. Still, I don't see this happening in the near future and especially not in businesses.

  33. I manage 16 PC's at work (Point of Sale system) - desktops and a few laptops. The majority have Win 11 the others Win 10. I have had zero issues for over a year. I use Win 11 at home as well. Zero negative issues. I'm not a MS apologist or anti this or that. These are facts from direct observation and experience. (For me... I'm not speaking for anyone else, nor do I want to change anyone's mind) I also run Parrot linux on a laptop. I've messed with many distros over the years. Do you realize what it would take to bankrupt a $3.4 Trillion company? If they did go bankrupt, it would affect the economy of the US and the world in a huge negative way.

  34. You don't have much malware/phishing protection with CloudFlare DNS. Try this service and see if it fits your needs. https://controld.com/free-dns Personally, I would choose 3rd Party Filters configurations. The best choice might be OISD full which is not convenient to include in the adblock filter lists because it's too many rules. Of course you then have to uncheck the anti-malware/phishing filter lists that you possibly use in adblock.

  35. @feodor2 Did you observe sudden crashes in Mypal 68.13.9b when surfing on Codeberg.org? Unfortunately, I had to determine sudden crashes without any messages that occur completely randomly when clicking onto links on Codeberg's pages. However, only in single-process mode. All preference settings for single-process mode are set to the default values in my installation. In multiprocess mode, on the other hand, I could not observe such crashes. Any ideas?

  40. Hi there. Testing it. It works well in heavy scripted sites (fb, yt and the like), probably better than 360chrome. However, it has all the issues of FF post 52: poor interface, lack of suitable addons, privacy issues, etc.. Therefore, I will keep it for alternative use when sp52 doesn't work. Will report on use of user.js, in particular hardware acceleration and e10s, in separate comment Noscript last (FF) version works, but I do not like it -what version is recommended? The same applies to ublock: last FF version installs and works well, but the interface is lacking -what version is recommended? Greasemonkey last FF version installs, and scripts from usual places do as well. I cannot find, however, where the settings are saved. I would like to have this to have preconfigured scripts if I rebuild the profile. SP52 ADDONS THAT SEEM TO WORK in MYPAL FIREFOX ADDONS THAT SEEM TO WORK in MYPAL
