OK everyone, take a deep breath and calm down. All new members of MSFN, or any other forum for that matter, should be treated with respect, and not have their initial contributions considered to be ignorant or naive. People come to forums like this to learn. As the strap line says here, "Where People Go To Know". As to whether this forum is 'obscure', I would venture that all technical forums are 'obscure' by their very nature, compared with the mass market options of social media. That does not make them any less valuable for those who choose to use them.5 points

Silverfall 2006, the famous one, made in France! Available in English, too, runs on GT710 fine, uses Physx.4 points

GTX 750 is a rare, odd beast. It belongs to a different (newer) gen., despite being among the old Kepler 700 series, it explains the lower temps and better seeking perfectly fine. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-750.c19864 points

If these words are addressed to @Vistapocalypse, I can only agree. But I wonder what business it is of yours at all? You are not involved in this conversation, not even mentioned. TBH, you don't have to put your two cents in everywhere in the forum. And I fear, it's not that important what you are tired of or what not. Sorry, my dear!3 points

Whom exactly do you call "inhospitable"? I don't think @Dave-H and @Tripredacus would agree with such labelling of MSFN, I'm asking you [very politely] for the 3579692369239298 time, please don't try to ignite hostilities over and over again. Everyone here is having a nice chat. Quoting your off-topic attack in full, just in case.3 points

Since when is this forum obscure? I personally think there are other things here that seem to be obscure.3 points

And don't forget, CUDA wears out cards more quickly, as it keeps them at their highest clock rates. The owner of GT710 had complained about high temps.3 points

It doesn't matter whether you use DXVA (XP) or DXVA2 (Vista), those two are specifically designated as "hardware video decode", Please see the screenshot.3 points

The use of artificial intelligence is a double-edged sword. It can generate results very quickly and easily. However, these must be evaluated and consulted with caution. In my opinion, it is essential to do your own research in any case. I personally do not trust any AI. It is nice to have such technology but I don't want to be told what to do or think by any artificial intelligence. I don't really approve of such a dependency, which is already fatal for children and students for years. Stupidity is being encouraged. Nobody needs to know anything. AI already does that. A famous German astrophysicist, Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch, put it aptly a long time ago. Young people don't know much anymore, they just learn how to easily get information. He literally said that in this day and age, young people only learn skills, but they know very little. I totally agree. Of course, using artificial intelligence sensibly is a completely different story.3 points

Yep! Got the same loooongish pause before the post finally came through! Probably it checks the words? Anyway, please report there, more reports, probably it gets fixed. https://msfn.org/board/topic/185994-cant-edit-my-first-post-in-thread-error-when-posting-links/2 points

You have 245! processes running. Of course it's SLOW with that much chugging in the background. My home computers (Win10) only have 60-some processes running and that's with some non-OS stuff. Here at work, I am over 200 processes but this is a top-of-the-line-at-the-time corporate machine with 32GB RAM and 16 cores with five Chrome's open with multiple tabs each, one Edge open for SharePoint, three Excel spreadsheets open, and one PowerPoint open.2 points

BTW, the CPU is indeed not impressive! Only 29% faster than the cheap 2013 Haswell Pentium. The Haswell era didn't have that bloated OS at that time, so no surprise at all. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G3470-vs-Intel-Core-i5-1335U/m28614vsm20656422 points

Those newer gens have Intel "software guard", turn that off, also. From what I know, some software makers use it to fingerprint your PC for "licensing" purposes.2 points
-
I had some weird cases of slowness on Haswell, it was related to HPET, basically try to turn off everything you don't need in the BIOS. Sometimes even turning off virtualisation helps. I think it's more poor mobo design related rather than CPU.2 points

No, you don't. DXVA2 is natively supported, You can combine it with CUDA, of course. H264 plays fine with DXVA2 up to 1080p. For H264 2160p or H265 8 bit you need to add CUDA to the mix*. *If your CPU is weak.2 points

Of course, it does. Look at the end of the FAQ! There are links to the corresponding articles whose author is no less than @VistaLover. And a little research on your own to deepen the topic would be helpful, too. But to be honest, @Mathwiz did already the job for you and quoted the most suitable post from @VistaLover in terms of your query.2 points

https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/adblock.html What is the score of MSFN members with their adblocker? In addition to the score, it would be interesting to mention the number of network filters and cosmetic filters.1 point

Too many bugs. The developer will have to revise the entire test.1 point

@Jaguarek62 Try to activate the Ultimate Performance plan. I in my PC use this energy plan that is often hidden: https://allthings.how/how-to-enable-ultimate-performance-plan-in-windows-11/ P.S. You can also enable in Edge the QUIC protocol: https://www.teimouri.net/quic-speeding-web-revolution-networking/ + this flag: TLS 1.3 Early Data - Enabled https://www.ssldragon.com/blog/tls-1-2-vs-1-3/ A great many websites use QUIC. Not MSFN.1 point

As I wrote in my first, introductory post of this thread, I am not only a fan of extensions, but also of custom buttons. I personally use a lot of already existing custom buttons and beyond that, created several on my own in the past. In any case, I will continue to present them here. But at this point, I would like to know how much interest there is in custom buttons among users of @roytam1's browser editions in general. So, feel free to share your thoughts on that topic!1 point

You can move on; your feedback is considered. Not implementing this right now, but maybe later.1 point

Being inhospitable toward new members who ask questions is not the way to keep an obscure forum online. Welcome @kiza1241 point

You're welcome. When it comes to successfully blocking content using uBlock Origin Legacy, it is very often a question of the right filter list or self-created rule. A sensible combination of enabled filter lists is very important to successfully block whatever you want to and to keep the memory usage of the used browser as low as possible. This is one of the reasons why I have implemented additional filter lists in my mod and will do so even in the next releases.1 point

Like I said, the revision B1 always runs hotter. Besides, you could simply get a a bad ASIC quality card. over 90C is the max limit, I think at 95 it should throttle down and reboot to try to save itself.1 point

Forum search functions generally suck - not just ours but every one I've ever tried. What would be really helpful is Bing's new AI search - just type in the question, et voila! But you have to be running Edge to use it and if you're able to do that, you probably aren't interested in NM 27 or 28!1 point

That question comes up so often, it probably should be addressed in the FAQ at the beginning of this thread.1 point

Not true. Official Bluray Specs for good playback: Core 2 Duo and 8400GS, which are from the year 2006 and XP. I'm not talking about 4k bluray. Minimum specs are going ever lower! Here you can familiarize yourself with them. "Minimum: Intel* 965, G33, G35, G45 graphics software decoder Intel Core 2 Duo. GeForce 7600 GT, GeForce 7800 GTX 512, GeForce 7900" https://superuser.com/questions/37252/minimum-hardware-spec-for-playing-blu-ray-disks1 point

... Respectfully, "there" is off-topic , "here" it is NOT ... Actually, I did read chermany4ever's comment in the "roytam1 browsers" thread and specifically elected to respond to him inside the "proper" Supermium thread here, rather than there; and when I changed tab focus to this thread (to finish my reply), your "comment" there wasn't yet public/visible ; hence, I "continued on my merry way" ... GitHub member Okmeque1 has recently reported that the very latest Hotfix (R2) release, https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/releases/tag/v122-hf is able to launch and run successfully in his machine; it has WinXP SP2 x86 as the OS : https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/341#issuecomment-1984464451 https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/341#issuecomment-1987143081 Full thread here ; you may then want to give it a try yourself ...1 point

Yes, previous calendar month. I suppose what I really meant was, "within the past 30 days or so...." Rats. 2.16 legacy didn't work on Serpent 52 either. Web console says something about "ctx.GetTransform is not a function." 'Twas worth a try, though....1 point

... Erh , you mean "previous" month ... ... That's probably true , but the other-way-round isn't a given; not the whole of UXP has been backported to St55 (but. at the same time, St55 has some vestiges inherited from Fx53.0a1); please also try, if you will, 2.16-"legacy" on UXP (probably won't work there, too, but...) ...1 point

@Amigafever Thanks for your interest in my mod uBlock Origin Legacy! Unfortunately, these new assets.json files of the webextension uBlock Origin are no longer compatible with the legacy extension. To implement such features in uBlock Origin Legacy is very time-consuming due to deeper code changes. Don't forget I am not the developer of uBO which is gorhill together with his team! I am just a one-man band when it comes to fixing code or creating new things. All changes I did in terms of uBlock Origin Legacy are the result of own investigations of uBO's source code. Apart from that I don’t really like this new feature. One always has to weigh the effort and the benefit of such things. I have a lot of projects, and my time is unfortunately limited.
