Exactly! For me, looks like they simply want to make noise in a desperate attempt to draw a couple of more users.4 points

No chance in Hell. It doesn't even work with Chrome 121. The wheel is constantly spinning, that's it. I didn't look into the error console, sorry.4 points

I should probably mention some of the newer releases here. I made a 115 ESR for Vista build, and I will do the same for 128 soon. I'm going to be building my own Rust fork to fix a couple issues I've encountered with the 115 ESR build, and once I do that, I'll work on making a 128 ESR for Vista build.2 points

Most antimalware scanners have problems with multi-packed archives. Personally, I never scan archives. It takes far too long on my old computer. I only scan archives when I unpack them and really need the files they contain. Regarding multi-packed archives I don't like them and usually avoid downloading such files. The method of multiple packaging has always been a strategy for hiding and foisting malware on the user of such files. Download sources that use this strategy are generally dubious.2 points

Yes. I have successfully updated the signatures of my ancient version of Kaspersky on my Inspiron 7500 laptop under WinXP SP3, SSE-only The number of signatures was reduced to 18 million, from 20 million in my previous signature update in early May 2024. Regarding SUPERAntiSpyware this is what the developers stated on their homepage: So much for the number of signatures (or malware threats which the programme protected from) provided by manufacturers.2 points

On my spare setup, which I keep in the storage room (video surveillance), I had an odd issue with the contrast, It was changing during the day. I thought it was browser and/or surveillance software related, unless I realised it was linked to the dried out capacitors in one of the monitors. But it glitched out ALL monitors connected to the card!2 points

The last Windows XP compatible installer of SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition is the version 10.0.1254. Install it and use the internal updater! Then you will get the latest version 10.0.1266. Here is a screenshot: And here is the download link for the installer: https://download.filepuma.com/files/spyware-removers/superantispyware/SuperAntiSpyware_v10.0.1254.exe. Accordingly, I have updated my article. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Did you intend to link to an ht-tp instead of to an ht-tpS? Other than that, it would not load for me in my default setup for v13.5.1030 either. But DOES LOAD when I use my default alternate UA - which is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/77.0.3865.120 Safari/537.36 Generally speaking, whenever I bump into a site that does not work (and if I remember to change the UA at all!), I DROP TO AN EVEN OLDER v77 THAN TO TRY "NEWER" OR "MOST RECENT" UAs. And that works in this case too, the site LOADS WITH A V77 UA.1 point

Another Supermium 124 release made it to the GitHub Releases Section: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/releases/tag/v124 Though it is still labelled as "Pre-release", the author claims it's "the main release of Supermium 124"; among the Release Notes: The distributions bundle (official) progwrp.dll-v1.1.0.5018 ; and before any member of the known "family" asks anew, no, the "not-possible-to-disable-the-CH-API-on-Sm122+" issue hasn't yet been addressed (else, it would surely have been mentioned inside the Release Notes ) ... Kind regards to all ...1 point

Hi Dave ; I wish I were over at your part of the planet, where you currently have a pleasant 18C, while here we're in the middle of a never-seen-before July heatwave, about to last at least until the 27th (to get an idea, it's 23:34 now and the outside temp is at 35C ! ) ... Back on topic: Your ex-colleagues are simply blocking the version of 360EE you're using (on XP) due to the User-Agent-String it broadcasts; I suppose you're using one of the @NotHereToPlayGames's mods, so inside its loader you'll find the cmdline switch below: --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.198 Safari/537.36" They outright block Chromium 86, so when the browser tries to load that page, it gets served an "errorcode337" and the tab ends up blank... This is a bad practice altogether, since Cr86 is perfectly capable of loading+rendering that site; to circumvent their block, just spoof a current Cr version: --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/127.0.0.0 Safari/537.36" ... and Bob's your uncle: ... Might I also add that the page has a sub-optimal web design, not fit for desktop browsers and without any consideration for older, low on resources, hardware (e.g., it contains in its top part a constantly animating huge video/gif that consumes far too many CPU cycles on OSes without native H/W decoding, via GPU) ... Apologies for the rant, cheers and best wishes ...1 point

@AstroSkipper SUPERAntiSpyware isn't anymore compatible with XP. If I run the setup of the free edition, I get an error message saying that the setup is not a valid Win32 application. Same thing with previous versions downloaded by Internet Archive. Which version do you use ? Do you have a setup of the free edition compatible with XP ? Regards1 point

Just installed Alpha 2r. I noticed that when moving the taskbar to the right and then the top there is an extra gap between the start icon and the task buttons until explorer is restarted. It almost looks like the gap that is added for touch mode. In this build the start button stayed in its location. Also in playing with the location of the taskbar I managed to have one time where the task buttons disappeared until I moved it to another location, in that situation the start button and system tray were still present.1 point

I see. I will adjust the volume like this. But now I have found the right volume, and leave it at that Thank you for your help that audio does work in Windows 98 SE on my notebook. This seems for me to be a complex matter and I have learned a lot. I am currently writing an article about how to install Windows 98 SE on an HP Pavilion dv5-1220ez notebook. For other people who are also interested in installing Windows 98 on a modern computer. Is it ok for you if i post the listing of the HDAICOUT.HDA in that article, that i'm currently using on my notebook? HP-PAVILION-dv5-1220ez_HDAICOUT.HDA1 point

It works if you spoof the Firefox version to the latest version 128. Spoofing the OS is not needed. The User Agent should look like this : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.01 point

No, ExplorerPatcher did reimplement taskbar too. It's however a de/recompilation but who cares in the end.1 point

I added some code in UXP codebase so it will return newer Goanna version and newer PM version in default user agent string, hopefully it can help against annoying CF captcha screens.1 point

One need to look at Direct 3D Feature level, it's the only one true parameter. "D3D 12 API" is a set of software emulations, meaning it could, in theory, run that game, but the FPS would be just terrible. Win 10 x64 can emulate in soft mode, hence the screenshot. By the screenshot one can also see how the drivers and cards became brighter with years. Washed out colours.1 point

As for Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2015, you are absolutely right. A potential user has to be very careful. Let's be clearer, this piece of software should be avoided in any case. Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2015 is of the really bad kind. To call it spyware would almost be trivialising it. Kaspersky shows its true colours with this tool.1 point

SUPERAntiSpyware Free and Professional X Edition SuperAntiSpyware analyses Windows systems for malware of all kinds. Both versions, the Free Edition and the Professional X Edition scan the PC for spyware, adware, malware, Trojans, dialers, worms, keyloggers, rootkits and hijackers. According to the developers, the software with an AI-Powered Detection Engine recognizes more than 1 billion malware threats. Unfortunately, real-time protection is only available in the commercial Professional X Edirion. Although it is not listed on the homepage, SUPERAntiSpyware is compatible with Windows XP (and probably with Windows Vista too). Only the more recent installers are no longer compatible with Windows XP, starting with the version 10.0.1256. The definitions database can also be updated offline. Comparison of features: Homepage: https://www.superantispyware.com/ More details about the features of each version can be found on their homepages. Homepage of the Free Edition: https://www.superantispyware.com/free-edition.html Homepage of the Professional X Edition: https://www.superantispyware.com/professional-x-edition.html Version number: 10.0.1266 Date of release: 29.04.2024 System requirements: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11 Version history: https://www.superantispyware.com/producthistory.html?id=SUPERANTISPYWARE Articles, tests and tutorials: https://www.computerbild.de/artikel/cb-Tipps-Software-SuperAntiSpyware-Changelog-Tutorial-und-SuperAntiSpyware-vs.-Malwarebytes-33203535.html https://www.computerbild.de/download/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition-4219359.html (German websites, please use an online translator!) https://www.clevguard.com/spyware-remover/superantispyware-review/ https://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/SUPERAntiSpyware.shtml Download links: Free Edition (last installer compatible with Windows XP): https://download.filepuma.com/files/spyware-removers/superantispyware/SuperAntiSpyware_v10.0.1254.exe Free Edition (latest installer only compatible with Windows 7 and above): https://secure.superantispyware.com/SUPERAntiSpyware.exe Professional X Edition (last installer compatible with Windows XP): https://download.filepuma.com/files/spyware-removers/superantispyware/SuperAntiSpyware_v10.0.1254.exe Professional X Edition (latest installer only compatible with Windows 7 and above): https://secure.superantispyware.com/SUPERAntiSpywarePro.exe Definitions Database Updater: https://secure.superantispyware.com/SASDEFINITIONS.EXE Definitions Database Information: https://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html Installation instructions: After installing the version 10.0.1254, you simply have to execute the internal updater to get the most recent version installed. Here is a screenshot of the Free Edition after executing the internal updater under Windows XP: The installer of the Free Edition can also be used to install the Professional X Edition if the user owns a genuine licence code. Screenshots: I have been using SUPERAntiSpyware since 2007, starting with version 3. The last compatible version with Windows 98 and ME was 4.24.1004. Since 2011, I have been in possession of a lifetime licence and have been using it in the Professional Edition ever since. SUPERAntiSpyware Professional has been XP-compatible for many years and actually runs without problems. Only a short period the XP compatibility was broken when it came to the version 10.0.1252 but then immediately restored again. However, the more recent installers are unfortunately no longer compatible with Windows XP, starting with the version 10.0.1256. This means that the actual SUPERAntiSpyware programme runs perfectly under Windows XP , but unfortunately the current programme installers do not. Besides the scanning features, the tab System Tools is very interesting and helpful for repairing PC damages caused by malware. The Free Edition is definitely worth a look and simply costs nothing. So, you can't lose anything. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

@Multibooter And if eScanAV 22.x does not run with your SSE only CPU, you can try the previous version eScanAV 14.x which is still available on their homepage. But one thing is clear. The air for systems with an SSE only CPU is now very thin, especially when it comes to antimalware programmes that still receive the latest virus definitions.1 point
-
As I already stated, Avast Antivirus 2015 is actually not an offline programme. And there are no more new definition updates since November of 2023. For example, eScanAV Anti-Virus Toolkit (MWAV) still receive current definition updates. Did you try it on your SSE only computer? In the case of eScanAV Anti-Virus Toolkit (MWAV), the definition updates can even be downloaded for offline use on a weekly base.1 point

It doesn't prove anything. Russia actively uses VPN literally everywhere, including MSFN bots and troll farms on Twitter. (remember the topic about Russia+VPN). It's on the contrary, Russia blocks own citizens and some connections from outside, but not spyware and bots it spreads all over the world. If we see such Kaspersky promotion pressure even here, the ban the US gov. implemented hits them hard.1 point

Officially it doesn't, I think the question was about the official support. For 116 to start, it needs to be done like this. I also saw some reports of video decoding/playback troubles. The installer of 116 is blocked for anything below Win 10. About the video and text problems, I can't confirm or deny, I don't use Firefox myself. https://www.reddit.com/r/windows7/comments/15i9dfd/firefox_116_on_windows_7/1 point

Hello, I am proud to announce (an unofficial) version 2.0 of Universal Extractor. About It all started about 3 years ago, when I took a look into Universal Extractor's source code to improve some parts of its behaviour for personal usage. Over time more and more features were added, including batch and scan only modes as well as support for password lists for protected archives. After lots of positive feedback from a private group of testers I decided to release my work to the public. As a short overview, here are some key features, which are new in this release: Batch modeSilent mode, not showing any promptsScan only mode to determine file types without extractingIntegrated updater100+ new supported file typesAudio and video extraction for multimedia filesCascading context menuSupport for password list for common archivesImproved optional status box with progress indicatorNew detection methods + more detailed output and error messagesSupport for some extractors not shipping with UniExtract as pluginsResource usage/speed improvements, lots of fixesFirst start assistant instead of installerFull functionality available in no-install versionAuto-using 64 bit versions of extractors if supported by OSA full list of changes can be found here. There are already several inofficial versions scattered around the internet, but this one is by far the most advanced I know of - hence the version jump to 2. As the only modified UniExtract version centrally hosted on GitHub it is easy to file bug reports as well as feature requests, find new releases or get the source code. Alternatively, an auto-updater and a built-in feedback GUI have been implemented. If you want to try out the new version and help to fix bugs, feel free to download it using the links below. Notes If you use an older version of Universal Extractor, do not replace it with version 2.0 as there are some changes, which can probably result in incompatibilities. You do not have to uninstall any previous version, it works along with this. The context menu entries of the new version may not work if an older version's context menu entries already exist, depending on your system. The beta version does not come with an installer, the official release version will do. Just unpack all files, start UniExtract.exe and a first start GUI will help you on your next steps. Some features are experimental, which means that they probably do not work like intended. If there is a problem, feel free to contact me. See the changelog for more information about experimental features. The translations have to be updated. At the moment, there is only a full translation for English and German. If you are able to translate to any other language and if you want to support Universal Extractor, feel free to send me any translations you can do or check existing ones for mistakes. And most important: It is a beta release. There can be some errors, bugs, etc. Use it at your own risk. No warranty for any demages resulting of the use of this software. If you want to share Universal Extractor 2 with someone, always warn about the beta state (or include this text). Download Beta 1 here. Source code can be found at GitHub.
