It's very hard to read when every word is capslocked and/or capitalized, sorry, I shan't read your reply, There are widely accepted rules of English spelling and social behaviour. I was under the impression they also have them in your country. Again, sorry, but I'll ignore.3 points

Yeah, I only found it because I searched "winvertroll" and wanted to see where I could find it by searching, and landed here. I edited in fixed link. Didn't even know MSFN sent notifications for edits. I need to get around to trying 1.19 or 1.20 with NotSoNew, that might be a better way to get newer versions on XP since it should work stock.2 points

I always start checking any hardware by disconnecting everything, only that part needs to be left. I also played with flashing many times before, even changing GPU BIOS with the same specs can improve performance. For example, I had and old EVGA GTX 980 (2014 or 2013), it had a conflict with my 192Khz PCI audio board, I re-flashed the GPU - problems gone. I took the default nVidia reference BIOS. I guess it's just more tested and compatible rather than "partner" manufacturers' BIOS. And yes, I too have a very similar Xeon Mobo.2 points

Wonka film review is rather good, but "Timothée Chalamet is a bit miscast". I'm not surprised, I felt the same. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/reviews/wonka-review-timothee-chalamet-b2457979.html Independent is a credible source with good critics, I don't want to argue with anyone, just accept this fact. Those who don't agree, I'm sorry, you aren't critics from Independent, but you of course have the right to your individual view on this.2 points

dvds are pretty old but do still have there uses today as some old classic movies like universal horror movies can only be watched thru dvd methods pretty much2 points

Wow, I didn't know they were still making DVDs in 2019! Unbelievable! How's the quality? American NTSC DVD 480p screen res. height standard seems so low these days. European PAL DVD standard is higher (576p), though I think not enough these days.2 points

ive not seen any of the dune movies but his acting in the wonka movie was pretty close to gene wilder in terms of acting and the songs in it are really well done homages to the original movies songs plus multiple references to the older wonka movies as well overall its a really well created tribute to the legacy of the wonka franchises2 points

Blu-ray drives and players can play your old DVDs too, so if there is a need for new hardware, then Blu-ray is advisable no matter how many DVDs you own. (Of course drivers might be a problem for those devoted to legacy versions of Windows.) For old TV shows from the analog era, there may be little if any advantage to the Blu-ray format. I have DVD sets of Twin Peaks (1990-91) and Dark Angel’s first season (2000-01), no thoughts of replacing them with Blu-ray at all. In some cases, recent movies include a Blu-ray and DVD in the same package (e.g. Dune: Part One, at least here in the United States), but in most cases the formats are sold separately. Blu-rays are now more common than DVDs at retailers in the U.S., but you could order a DVD if you wish. I still sometimes buy very cheap DVDs on impulse at Walmart or Barnes & Noble. Walmart just dumps $5 DVDs into a bin for shoppers to rummage through, whereas Barnes & Noble tries to keep their stock organized and their DVDs are often just as cheap.1 point

I haven’t seen Wonka, but I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I believe you are younger than most of us here at MSFN, and I’d like to hear what you thought of Wonka’s young star, Timothée Chalamet? One member seems to believe he is “weak” and untalented. I will concede that he looks rather young to become the Emperor of the Universe (which is where the Dune films are headed), but he is certainly the reigning king of the box office right now thanks to young moviegoers. As was first pointed out by Denis Kimathi of Collider and repeated in numerous other articles, Chalamet has broken a box office record that was previously held by John Travolta by starring in two top-grossing films in less than 8 months: https://collider.com/timothee-chalamet-actor-record-dune-2-wonka/1 point

I have: The Matrix Resurrections (2021) in 2022, The Matrix trilogy (1999, 2003), Idiocracy (2006) and A Quiet Place (2018) in 2019 on DVD. I've been turning to my old DVD collection because network TV is limited and I can hardly stream at all on my devices now because the sites have all become so heavy and XP just isn't up to the job; sad to say. I find Linux to be better for watching movies online rather than XP.1 point

After doing research I realized Encrypted Hello is not possible on FF68ESR so my main concern is why secure DNS is not activated. anybody listening on the wire can see the DNS queries I made even though both my router and devices are set to use 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. It detects that I AM using a secure DNS rosolver but not over a secure connection. Huh ........ ....... does this mean mypal68 cant not securely meet up to any secure and private DNS like Quad9? Do you buy any chance know what is happening @Sampei.Nihira - you've always been very helpful with these tests. Thank you in advance and I realize you are busy so no quick reply is needed ... I'm not leaving any time soon. https://www.cloudflare.com/ssl/encrypted-sni/1 point

Very old disks (500GB and the such) have "usual" 512kb clusters, and the newer ones - "advanced format" with bigger clusters. And by that I mean physical, hardware clusters. EDIT, prolly the board isn't tailored well enough to work with the old ones, but could also be the firmware bug.1 point

NM 27 and NM 28 typically use the same profile folder: %appdata%\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon. If you wish to use both NM 27 and NM 28 on the same PC, you should make one or both portable to keep their profiles separate. (I believe a portable loader is mentioned in the first post of this thread.)1 point
-
People do request a lot. That doesn't mean anything. But the main problem is there must be someone who is willing to develop such 64-bit releases. If there is no serious need or strong demand for such stuff, no one will create those versions. It's as simple as that. Even if you don't want to hear that now. On the other hand, that doesn't mean to give up, either.1 point

Looking at the quotation from the version history on their homepage, the support for Windows XP seems to have been restored in WINSCP 6.3.2 and that completely unexpected. Unbelievable and great! WinSCP is the FTP client I am using to connect my Android devices with my Windows XP computer via WLAN. I thought support for Windows XP had been discontinued for good. BTW, the most recent version 6.4 is already announced but not released yet. But it will probably not be long in coming.1 point

I'm sorry, I only used XP for no more than a month in 2006, but the below solution should actually work for older OS, even 32bit ones. This is what I sometimes use for my own custom drivers' signing. The procedure is described in details, Seeing you, Dave, have an Win 10 installation, it shouldn't be a problem to do it there, and then use the signed driver on your XP. https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/windows-driver-docs/blob/staging/windows-driver-docs-pr/devtest/tools-for-signing-drivers.md1 point

I did make a post about this on my forum, going to mirror it here. It's not the easiest or the best method, but it's the one I like to use. I use AdoptOpenJDK, and up to release 8u242 works. However you will need to mod it. For XP x64: https://github.com/AdoptOpenJDK/openjdk8-binaries/releases/download/jdk8u242-b08/OpenJDK8U-jre_x64_windows_hotspot_8u242b08.msi For XP x86: https://github.com/AdoptOpenJDK/openjdk8-binaries/releases/download/jdk8u242-b08/OpenJDK8U-jre_x86-32_windows_hotspot_8u242b08.msi To modify it for XP, you'll need these two below. Orca: https://www.technipages.com/downloads/OrcaMSI.zip winvertroll: https://board.eclipse.cx/viewtopic.php?t=652 Install Orca, then right click the OpenJDK8 installer, and click Edit with Orca. In Orca, go to Launch Condition, select the one with "Windows 7 or later is required" as the description, right click and drop row. Save and close Orca, then install OpenJDK8. Navigate to C:\Program Files\AdoptOpenJDK\jre-8.0.242.08-hotspot\bin, and drag both java.exe and javaw.exe onto winvertroll.exe. Now you have Java 8 on XP! For Java 17, you need One Core API. One Core API is unstable, but is the only way to get this working as far as I know. Get Java 17 from here: https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases/ Select Windows as Operating System, and JRE as Package Type. Download the one for your system. Repeat the Orca steps for Java 17 and install. If this fails, I've only tested with 17.0.5+8, which can be found in the archive. The latest should be fine, but I haven't tested it. I will soon though. Now you have Java 17 on XP!1 point

As promised, some further information about MailNews. It's now my standard email client in Windows XP. All my email service providers are supported by MailNews. I talk about GMX, WEB.DE, Gmail and Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail, now the light web version of Microsoft 365). It works without any problems, simply great. Here are some screenshots from my installation: I installed a lot of extensions from both Binary Outcast and Thunderbird.net, without any modifications, no editing of install.rdf, right out of the box. Furthermore, I activated the embedded calendar Lightning. I am very happy with MailNews, no cumbersome and heavy loading web interfaces anymore. This means I can fully recommend MailNews. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

The last XP-compatible version 7.2.35595.0 of eM Client Pro is much too old. It does not do anything. No access to my email service providers. This version is nearly four years old and that's definitely too much for an email client nowadays. Anyway! MailNews is my best choice on Windows XP and works perfectly with all of my email service providers. The browser's web interfaces of my email accounts are heavy on loading and sluggish, and a lot of them work only in a restricted mode.1 point

Actually, I wanted to test the email client OE Classic, but ads in outgoing messages and the limit of only two accounts in their free version are a no-go. That's why I tested IceDove, but unfortunately, it doesn't support OAuth2 or authentication by app password which means no access to Gmail by this email client. That is a pity and therefore not an option for me. But another candidate has long since appeared on the horizon that meets and even exceeds all my requirements. And that is @roytam1's email client MailNews, which is ultimately based on Thunderbird 52. This email client has a real, working Oauth2 protocol that makes accessing Gmail easy. For me, simply perfect and the best choice for Windows XP at the moment.. More about that in the next days! Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

To force the installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.5.9 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I created a small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.5.9.exe. Here is the download link of my loader: https://www.mediafire.com/file/4bh4pybunlmr5hq/ForceEnInstall.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper I installed DreamMail Pro with my self-created loader to force an installation in English (default is Chinese) which worked fine. I tested DreamMail Pro wth two email services, WEB.DE and Gmail. The configuration of WEB.DE was easy and works as expected. The configuration of Gmail was a bit tricky. DreamMail Pro can only work with Gmail if the two factor authentication has been enabled in its account settings to get and use an app password. DreamMail Pro doesn't seem to provide a real Oauth2 protocol as MailNews does. But it works with Gmail, too. The documentation is only available in Chinese (for non-Chinese people not easy, you need Google Translator). The automatical creation of message folders and their handling by DreamMail Pro has definitely to be improved in the next releases.1 point

After my intensive research so far, I have come to the conclusion that the convenient use of Microsoft 365 necessarily entails newer operating systems like Windows 10+ and up-to-date email clients. Strictly according to the motto: Saying A means also saying B (translated German saying ). There are still other solutions like Mail Servers or externally adding protocols to email clients, but this is rather fiddling and beyond comfortable. Fortunately, I do not use the email service Microsoft 365, so my email services including Gmail work under Windows XP with existent, XP-compatible email clients.1 point

After reading the last comments here, I rather think we have to be grateful for every developer who still supports Windows XP nowadays. So I'm glad that programs like Pegasus Mail, DreamMail Pro and MailNews exist at all and are free of charge. They are of course not comparable to the email clients available for Windows 7+, but they work. The current release Pegasus Mail 4.80 from 14.02.2022 is still XP-compatible and quite up-to-date. The beta 4.81 is unfortunately not XP-compatible anymore. I extracted the installer and did a manual install as suggested by Dutch support, but unfortunately without success. The main program winpm-32.exe is the culprit and no longer XP-compatible. I am still in contact with the support and hope that maybe this will be fixed in one of the next releases. As we all know, hope dies last. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

I didn't try the recent version of Pegasus Mail but it is listed as XP-compatible on their homepage. If it really can't be installed, then they haven't updated the system requirements on their homepage. Anyway! Here is the quotation of their system requirements:1 point
