Restart & Purge - A custom button for restarting the browser and, if necessary, purging the startup cache, created by AstroSkipper As I have already reported in @roytam1's browser thread, I have been investigating the restart behaviour of New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 (and also Mypal 68, but this is off-topic here) for some time with a focus on the startup cache. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find much useful information or documentation on this topic on the internet. Even my request in @roytam1's browser thread also went unanswered (addendum: in the meanwhile, @VistaLover has replied here. Thanks again for that! ). It seems that detailed information or knowledge about the startup cache and how the browser restart affects this cache is practically non-existent. The startup cache seems to be a replacement for the former Fastload. It resides in the profile directory to store continuous chunks of data in it. In my New Moon 28 installation, without using the custom folder chrome for scripts and CSS stylesheets, only one file resides there with the name startupCache.4.little. As both, the folder and file name, contain the string startupcache, one can conclude that data is stored inside this file to accelerate the startup of the browser. Which data exactly I really don't know. I didn't find any meaningful documentation. I noticed that very often or in most cases the startup cache was cleared or reorganised automatically without any additional commands when restarting the browser. Sometimes, however, it remained unchanged after a restart. At least, I could find the code responsible for purging the startup cache. Anyway! One thing is clear. If the data in the startup cache is corrupted, then starting problems can occur which only can be solved by deleting its content. This can be done, for example, manually or by the commandline option -purgecaches. But there is no button or item to start this purge of the startup cache in a convenient way from within the UXP browsers. That's why I created a custom button for this purpose in JavaScript (rather a variant of JavaSript), the programming language used for creating new custom buttons by the extension Custom Buttons. I branded this custom button Restart & Purge. It performes a normal restart when left-clicked and additionally purges the startup cache when middle-clicked. After creation I have tested this custom button over a longer period of time, and it works for me as it should. Here is a small screenshot of my custom button Restart & Purge and its tooltip taken from New Moon 28: As the code of Restart & Purge has to be initialised, you won't find it in the tab "Code" but in the tab "Initialization code" of this custom button. Here is a screenshot of its code: The former download links unfortunately contained an XML backup file of the Restart & Purge custom button which either couldn't be installed without additional editing or some characters were not transferred correctly. The problem has to do with the conversion of custom buttons into XML format, where the tool I had used did not work correctly. This time I therefore provide a custom button link for direct install (when the extension Custom Buttons is already installed, of course ). Copy the quoted link below and open it in a new browser tab: I can't insert the code of the link in this post! The MSFN forum editor is totally broken and hasn't been working properly for months especially when it comes to inserting of links. This has already reported multiple times! Well done, who is responsible for it! Due to the shortcomings of the MSFN forum editor, I uploaded the custom button link of Restart & Purge as an HTML file. Here is the download link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/nrqim7ek9s6gp07/CB_button_Restart_%26_Purge.html/file Simply open this HTML file in a browser tab and click the embedded custom button link for Restart & Purge! For the installation of this button, the extension Custom Buttons is required which you can get from this post: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1226328 And since the legacy Custom Buttons extension runs in the UXP browsers, my custom button Restart & Purge can be used in New Moon 28, Serpent 52, Pale Moon and some other browsers. Thanks! I'm honestly glad we still have the majority of on-topic people! Of course it doesn't affect GDI rendering. To answer your question, yes there are some oldies like Version 1.9.7.3, which go as low as driver R343. ### NVIDIA INSPECTOR - CHANGELOG ### Version 1.9.7.3 - updated setting constants until driver R343 (those include drivers 344.xx)4 points

You can take it with anything you desire, but I see the same result on Intel GMA onboard graphics, and everything is fine with eyesight, I pass my eye exams well, I have to, all due to my military activities. Read, even on gighub, they describe Supermium font issues.4 points

We are not "assuming", we know for sure. Please, enough with trolling. We know Supermium issue is related to GDI on XP and Dwrite on Vista+. You accuse everyone of being blind, except you?4 points

This is very insulting to say such a thing to a girl! Yes, we girls are sensitive. I just saw win32 appeared here some time ago, read the usual nonsense, and didn't reply again, which proves the point of @AstragonQC, @Dixel, me and all other members who wish well to this project and want it to continue. You're very rude, you need to apologize.4 points

Thank you it's needed to be said. Some fail to understand how easy is to let a project down. Some do it without realizing it. Some do it on purpose.4 points

And which governments that may be? @UCyborgwrote about XP, no 10. XP accepts up to 368.91 drivers, strange you don't know3 points

Yes, they showed up. Anyway: Yes, it is that blue pane. It's called common tasks, it's not tabs. I think I saw somewhere on MSFN a method of bringing this shell to XP, but I don't remember where was it. Will need to search for it.2 points

You can't help with anything when you missed even the basic description for what they are for, despite it was written by the developer. @Mathwiz I have thought about your problem again and could imagine that you may have installed the uBO webextension in the past. Could I be right? In any case, I will examine this issue in my Serpent 55 installation the next days. If, contrary to my expectations, I find that Serpent 55 tries to automatically update the legacy extension uBlock Origin to the latest compatible webextension, I can make my fork so unique that it can never be identified as uBlock Origin again. Then, it couldn't be automatically updated anymore by whatever mechanism. The updating of my fork/mod should only be done by a manual editing of its code inside the xpi file unless gorhill would decide to support the legacy extension again which, however, will probably never be the case. PS: Please, test your issue in a fresh, clean profile and report here! Thanks!2 points

I'm not chasing you, so stop flattering yourself. But when I see crap behaviour, I'll make it my business to point it out as a good citizen. But I get it now. Your mantra if, "If I disagree with you, I'll treat you poorly." Thanks I got it loud and clear. I wish the admins of this board would do something about your behaviour (by that I mean collectively you, Dixel, and Saxon). Many of us other have been pulled aside and given warnings for WAY LESS.1 point

@VistaLover @mina7601 OK, but: I don't want to use uBO I use only a few forums based on discourse: winraid, openwrt or coreelec I am not disturbed by the way with the Modify HTTP Response plugin1 point

What's wrong with you D.Draker? You and Dixel (starting to think you're one and the same) are acting horribly and unreasonably to people - some who are very long time members here. Keep it over in your own threads if you must. You've could have easily said, "I didn't experience the same symptoms as you did." or something of the like, but you just attack first without thinking or considering who you might be talking to.1 point

Mister, I never implied that it's limited to XP only, either. I am already aware that we can also discuss about running it on 2000 (which is not supported yet, but will be in the future) and Vista also, for example. For those who don't want to read through a long thread, I offer the following pull-quote from MC: I tend to agree, both with MC's take (bad website design) and @VistaLover's pessimism that anything will change. What's wrong with you?"1 point

The slack time in the GANNT chart for that project has been exceeded, we will have to either shorten the time dedicated to testing or delay the completion date. You (the British) often fail to appreciate the usefulness of Latin time. Project estimated duration: 5 days Translated to Latin time: 10 weeks (double the amount and pass to the next larger unit) We are all well within the deadline. jaclaz1 point

I really grew tired of non-sense, so for the first time in decades I decided to ignore some forum participants. For the rest: I assumed Ucyborg is using the OS in his picture (w10), apologies for assuming so, if it was not the case. Once again, I'm no expert, nor do I have access to multiple hardware: I transparently report on what I have (windowswise), and what I can do with my system (which is representative of only myself). The system I use has two (10 years ago) mid range quadro GPUs, perhaps other GPUs allow for later drivers. In my system, finally, after including supermium in nvidiainspectorprofile (with settings I use in my other browsers), the font ugliness I (also) commented about before is gone, so I reported in case it may be of use to anybody else. To be honest, I never noticed any special brightness in Supermium, and feel real sorry for those who are so vocally incapable of solving that issue. I wish them well.1 point

There is no script? If a formatting attribute is *somehow* kept, and the hypothetical script is a batch script, the CMD interpreter will remove the attribute. Create a (say) new MS Word document, copy and paste in it: ECHO boot.ini here the BOOT is italics bold, the dot is red, the INI is underlined red. When you paste it in a "rich" text editor these characteristics will be kept. Now open a command prompt and paste again in it, and press ENTER. The CMD strips the attributes (actually it is the clipboard that pastes only the text, I believe) The script, on the other hand needs to be a plain text file, with extension either .BAT (wrong) or .CMD (right) other formats (i.e. those that can keep the formatting) won't be parsed correctly an throw an error jaclaz1 point

FYI! Those who might have already downloaded the new version uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32, please, reload it if the link is available again! I have revised the way of name and ID change. This way is cleaner and more global. PS: The new version can be downloaded again. An additional, strange bug happened,, and it was a bit difficult to find the cause of it. Now, I have fixed it, and the new version should hopefully run without further problems. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

FYI, I already created an update version of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31. I made a lot of changes. I even installed and tested this version in Serpent 55. @Mathwiz When searching for extension updates in this browser, an update to the webextension of uBlock Origin is no longer offered. In any case, I am now back in testing mode. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point
-
Right! Of course, I know that the browser checks for extension updates via the pref extensions.update.url. That was exactly what I restored in Mypal 68 months ago, described in my article Restoring the manual and automatic update function for extensions in Mypal 68.13.3b. But, I mainly use New Moon 28, and there is no support for webextensions at all. BTW, I never activated the automatic updates in any @roytam1's browsers. And TBH, I never thought Serpent 55 would look for webextension updates for a legacy extension. But as I already mentioned, I can make my mod/fork such unique as I did in the case of my fork Check My IP Address & Location 1.3. Then, updates won't be found for it any longer. PS: And the more I think about it , the more I am now inclined to do just that. One more thing @VistaLover, I totally forgot to say thanks for your deeper insights on that matter!1 point
-
@Mathwiz Very strange! In my latest release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31, I have removed the auto-update function of the internal list of all preselected filter lists and the updateURL inside the install.rdf file. Therefore, my fork can't actually initiate any auto-update actions. Did you install uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 after a complete cleaning of all remnants as I described in my article? Very important is to delete the ublock0.sqlite file in the profile subfolder extension-data before installing uBO. And don't install uBO on top of an already existing installation! It won't work properly. I personally do not use the auto-update function of the Add-ons Manager in @roytam1's browser editions. All update processes are done by me manually. Therefore, this never happened to me.1 point

Hi Qtranslate is back in function with improvements following its abandonment by its designer. works very well under XP qTranslate Community edition dated December 9, 2023 Differences from the official version: * The official portable version of qTranslate 6.9.0 is taken as a basis (according to reviews it works more stable than 6.10.0); * The Google Translator script is taken from the newer version 6.10.0; * The Google Dictionary script (technically, it was always just a search engine) is taken from the newer version 6.10.0; * Fixed Yandex, Bing (Microsoft Translator), DeepL, Urban Dictionary; * Added ChatGPT (configured to work as a translator). Powered by GPT-3.5-turbo-0613; * Reverso has been added as a translator (previously it worked only as a dictionary). The author of the patch seems to be Zloy_Gelud; * Added translators: Translatero (thanks DimitarSerg), Amazon, ModernMT and LibreTranslate; * Added dictionaries: wiktionary, dic.academic.ru (explanatory), translate.academic.ru (transferable); * DeepL icon change; * Deleted (didn't work anyway): Promt, youdao, Baidu, Papago; * It uses its own exeshnik (thanks to DimitarSerg). When I am later at my desktop computer, I will provide the version, which is stiil working, including suitable settings. @dmiranda At the moment, I have replaced the version MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37871-4.9.3 (i686), which comes with the installation package of SMPlayer 23.12.0, by the version MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37940-6.2.0 (i686), you see a bit more recent one. This version works great with relative seeking selected and precise unselected. Another version is MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37802-4.9.3 (i686) which even works with absolute and/or precise seeking selected. Versions higher than 37802 do not work with absolute seeking. And I have unselected the options "Remember time position" with "Remember for streams". I should still mention that version 37940 is the last XP-compatible one. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

My essential tools for solving problems in Windows XP — Part 1 — WU/MU tools WinUpdatesList: WinUpdatesList is a tool from NirSoft and displays the list of all Windows updates (Service Packs and Hotfixes) installed on your local computer. For hotfix updates, this utility also displays the list of files updated with these hotfixes. In addition, it allows you to instantly open the provided link to its Microsoft website, but you have to use in most cases the Wayback Machine nowadays. It provides more information about the selected update, uninstall an update, copy the update information to the clipboard, or save it to text/HTML/XML file. The latest and presumably last version is 1.33. Language files are available too. WinUpdatesView can load the Windows updates history from your local system, using API, and it can also read and parse the Windows updates database file (DataStore.edb) from external drive or from remote computer on your network. For every Windows update history record, WinUpdatesView displays the following fields: Title, Description, Install Date, Update Operation (Install, Uninstall, Not Started, In Progress), Operation Result (Succeeded, Succeeded With Errors, Failed, Aborted), Category, Information URL, Support URL, Uninstall Notes, Client Application ID, Service ID, Update ID, Revision Number, Unmapped Result Code, Server Selection, hResult.
