When I am later at my desktop computer, I will provide the version, which is stiil working, including suitable settings. @dmiranda At the moment, I have replaced the version MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37871-4.9.3 (i686), which comes with the installation package of SMPlayer 23.12.0, by the version MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37940-6.2.0 (i686), you see a bit more recent one. This version works great with relative seeking selected and precise unselected. Another version is MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37802-4.9.3 (i686) which even works with absolute and/or precise seeking selected. Versions higher than 37802 do not work with absolute seeking. And I have unselected the options "Remember time position" with "Remember for streams". I should still mention that version 37940 is the last XP-compatible one. Cheers, AstroSkipper3 points

Yeah, it's a completely pity, I wish it was like Discourse, which does allow quoting posts, even from locked topics. What's even worse is, when you edit a post of yours, and click Quote to quote a post, instead of the quote getting added into the editor, it instead gets added to the "Reply to this topic..." textbox.2 points

Here, video (from YouTube) downloads the separate audio and video and does combine them to one file with the latest FFmpeg from @Reino, though my hardware can't handle the higher resolutions with VP9 codec. So, I always download mp4 1080p with avc codec (my screen isn't larger than that anyway).2 points

What do you mean by "maybe"? There can't be a "maybe". You need to listen to knowledgeable people trying to help you. Explaining again, with links. DirectX 9 ver.4.09.00.0904 is the last *OFFICIAL* and *SUPPORTED* version for Windows XP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX DirectX 11 "Microsoft unveiled DirectX 11 at the Gamefest 08 event in Seattle ... launched for Windows Vista (not XP!) on October 27, 2009" But, a big but, DirectX 11 was used only for gaming! The website is based on the Wikipedia article from Jul 22nd, 2017. Which they declare themselves. https://whotracks.me/blog/fingerprinting.html The information is obsolete by almost a decade. Not to mention, it's really hard to call Wikipedia an expert on fingerprinting, to begin with. Collected data on fingerprinting goes as low as 2010! I'd like to see something far more recent.2 points

It can, if someone makes a mistake, or simply doesn't know what his OS real capabilities are, that user tried to run the player in DirectX11 mode, that is only Win8 and up, the player ignored that setting and switched off the acceleration completely, thus resulting in a poorer picture quality. The only thing that works on XP is DXVA version 1.0. Addition, obviously a DXVA supported GPU is needed, too!2 points

Hello @Monroe! Which extension do you mean? My fork Check My IP Address & Location 1.3? This extension works perfectly for me even when connected via VPN. This was also tested by @VistaLover. So, there must be something wrong in your settings. Please, check what's going in your system! Try also another VPN service!2 points

All man made objects that use heating or result in heating are the cause of the warming, including the phosphorous blasts you chose to ignore (why?), of course in addition to emissions, there's no argument here. For example, we've got plenty of (don't know how to call them politely) that make floors with heating in our already warm Vichy climate so "their dogs feel cosy".2 points

This is always to be expected with old, no longer really further developed extensions for UXP browsers & co. and is generally unavoidable. If it only affects a few pages, it's easy to get over. I will also test the two websites with my upcoming release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31. @UCyborg First of all, the How-To-Geek website is a bit clumsy in New Moon 28 and leads to high processor utilisation on older, weak systems. For comparison purpose, I checked this site first in Mypal 68 with uBlock Origin 1.49.2 activated. Here is a screenshot with the filtering results: As you already stated, no problems there. The How-To-Geek website does not block uBlock Origin 1.49.2, and uBO does its job properly. Then, I checked this website in New Moon 28 with uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 activated. Here is a screenshot with the filtering results: The How-To-Geek website recognises uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 as an adblocker and prevents the loading of the actual content. That means uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 works but it is simply blocked. Thus, one has to make some special settings in uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 to get this website loading but without allowing all ads. Here are my settings I have made to block as many ads as possible: And that's something I can live with.2 points

I bought a new car with the money made at work, though that purchase was mostly out of necessity to get by in day-to-day life. I doubt I'll replace the computer soon, I'm a bit tired of computers (using it at work), gaming doesn't feel the way it used to anymore and I love being lazy in free time more than ever. I'm dead after work and weekends are too short. Gaming would maybe be the only reason to replace the old computer, but I have too much old games and I'm not sure there's anything new out there for me anyway. Looks like I was dribbling with hCAPTCHA before: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=24663 Back then they did something on hCAPTCHA side to fix it, although it seems this is general issue in the platform.1 point

There is evidence that modern cities contribute heat through an Urban Heat Island Effect. I am sure automobile engines contribute a good amount of that heat, at least on working days. The truth is that cities are contributing heat through their concrete structures and blacktopped roads. A critical mistake is thinking that infrared radiation is heat. It's actually a byproduct of heat dissipation at a surface although it can be used to warm a cooler object, where it is transferred back to heat. In considering that, we must be aware of the inverse square law whereby electromagnetic energy rapidly loses its intensity as it spreads out from a source. A 1500 watts ring on an electric stove, glowing red, can barely be felt a couple of feet away. Radiation is a very poor mechanism for cooling a surface. That's another reason the planet is warmer than it should be. Radiation simply cannot get rid of similar heating as quickly as it enters the Earth system. Shula has written a paper on that, comparing cooling by radiation and conduction.convection. Here's a reference to it.... https://wattsupwiththat.com/2023/04/18/a-novel-perspective-on-the-greenhouse-effect/ Basically, the Pirani gauge is a tube with a filament in it that can be electrically heated. The tube can be evacuated as well, and with it evacuated there is obviously no air in the tube. If the filament is heated then the current is stopped, it takes a long time for the filament to cool by radiation along. If a gas like air is introduced the filament cool quickly. In fact, the filament cools 260 times faster in air than in a vacuum. The earth energy budget diagram shown on the page has that backwards. It shows radiation as the main factor cooling the surface an it is conduction.convection that cools it better. It is estimated in the article at the link that radiation accounts for only about 1% of heat dissipation at the Earth's surface.1 point

Begging your pardon, but NOAA are climate shysters. In 2024, they announced it as the hottest year ever, and when one noted the fine print hidden out of plain view, it turned out they meant 2014 was probably the hottest year ever, based on a 48% average. The next Shyster in line, NASA GISS, had 2014 rate hottest based on 38% probability. I mean, what serious scientists would make such claims based on such ridiculous probabilities?. Meantime, UAH (University of Alabama, Huntsville), based on the satellite temperature record, had 2014 significantly down the list, well behind the hottest year of 1998, at the time, produced by a strong El Nino. Speaking of 1998, in 2013, the IPCC admitted that the 15 years between 1998 and 2012 showed no significant warming trend. They called it a hiatus. UAH showed an 18 year flat trend. The fudgers at NOAA, who showed the same flat trend, went back and re-calculated the SST (Sea Surface Temperature), to show a slight trend. Why? NOAA. GISS, and Hadcrut, the three premier surface station record keepers have all engaged in retroactively rewriting historical temperatures to make them better fit the anthropogenic warming meme. GISS were caught quietly trying to replace 1934 with 1998 as the hottest year in North America. The current leader of GISS, Gavin Schmidt, runs an uber-alarmist site, realclimate, with his buddy Michael Mann, of hockey stick fame. In the emails of the Climatgate scandal, Mann was revealed as the author of 'the Trick', a scheme aimed at hiding declining temperatures. Schmidt tried to cover up for him but anyone in the know is aware that Mann et al's proxy temperatures were showing a decline in the 1960s and Mann solved it by clipping off the proxy temps and replacing them with real warming temps. The Trick!!! In the Climatgate emails, Phil Jones, leader of Hadcrut at the time, bragged that he had used Mann's trick to good effect. These are the high and mighty alarmists crowd talking about matters they dare nor reveal in public, They justify cheating for the better good. Jones was a Coordinating Lead Author at the time making him high and mighty at IPCC reviews since he got to elect and oversea Lead Authors. He was caught in the Climategate emails bragging that he would ensure that certain skeptic's papers would not make it to the review. The partner of Jones at IPCC reviews is Kevin Trenberth of NCAR or UCAR, not sure which. In the Climategate emails, Trenberth lamented circa 2007 that the warming had stopped and it was a travesty that no one knew why. Here he is secretly admitting what the IPCC announced in 2013 yet it never reached the mainstream public, When the emails were released, Trenbrth rushed into damage control mode and came up with the cockamamey theory that the missing heat is being stored in the ocean. You can see that drivel in the link above from NOAA. We know the oceans store heat, that's what keeps the planet warmer than it should be, not a greenhouse effect. Also, the atmosphere itself keeps the planet warmer because the primary components, oxygen and nitrogen, absorb heat from the surface and cannot release it radiatively at terrestrial temperatures. So, those gases tend to store heat. The point is, if CO2 is causing greater warming as it increases why would there be a sudden flat trend? In 2016 we had another strong El Nino followed by a 6 year flat trend. Therefore the trend has been flat 24 year out of the past 26 years . So, why the general trend from 1998 - present? In 1977, a very mysterious 0.2C warming appeared. No one knew what to make of it and some scientists were in favour of erasing it as a mistake. Some began to investigate and that lead to the discovery of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, which is associated with a controls the frequency of another oscillation, ENSO. I have found evidence of at least two more unexplained sudden warmings, both of them following major El Ninos. Following the ENs, temperatures remained a few tenths of a degree C higher than expected. There are several ocean oscillations throughout the planet: the AMO (Atlantic), AO (Arctic Ocean), PDO (Pacific), ENSO (tropical Pacific) and a couple more. Each oscillation affects weather and climate in different ways. Tsonis et al studied them back a century and discovered that the planet warmed when the oscillations worked together and cooled when they were opposed. This offers a far better and more realistic explanation for warming and cooling over the past century. However, the IPCC won't accept papers on this because their mandate is only to discover evidence of anthropogenic warming, even if they have to mislead people to do it. .1 point

update - now trying new technique instead of wrappers (since wrappers were unstable) i will make a dll called dotexe1337.dll which contains all of the functions code, then each dll such as kernel32, winhttp, ntdll, etc will forward to this, keeping the original dll intact export address table, export name table, export ordinal table, etc will be enlarged to add forwarded functions and rva's adjusted accordingly1 point

Please, to avoid issues with "upstream" developer(s), always refer to the browser as Serpent 52; as already verified by another member, I, too, have no problem at all "fullscreen-ing" video content from banbye in my St52 copy: As you can expect, I do not have an account with banbye, so can't check whether what you report is specific to logged-in users of that video portal ... In general, site/player preferences are being stored inside browser and/or HTML5 cookies; I'd start by fully wiping out ALL banbye set cookies, clear the browser cache and restart browser - often times, a user setting (e.g. inside a content blocker like uBO, uMatrix, etc.) will block a site from writing/modifying needed cookies and thus site functionality will be impaired... I'd suggest to you to try the banbye site (its new iteration) in a fresh St52 profile and draw conclusions from then on ...1 point

Just so you know, for the future, DirectX11 for video is only Win8 and up, but I won't go into details since it's obviously off-topic here!1 point
-
Of course it's "less resources" for you simply because Windows XP doesn't support DirectX11, it never did, run DxDiag to see, hence less depth and the weird brightness, there's simply no acceleration when you choose DX11 on XP.1 point
-
When I am later at my desktop computer, I will provide the version, which is stiil working, including suitable settings.1 point

I tested MPC-HC 2.1.2.18 more deeply. Under my hardware conditions, the jetaudio video decoder does not do anything better than the LAV filters. Generally, I like this player but the best of all for Windows XP is still the PotPlayer which is able to play subtitles and lists all available YouTube streams while playing a video so that the user can select their favourite one easily.1 point

I'm basically the same way. But that is what growing up is supposed to be like, in my opinion. If you do the same "social scene" in your 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s that you did when you were in your 20s, then you "stopped growing" in your 20s. To each their own, of course. I do know a lot of people that "party" like they were still 20 and those people will never retire and have any form of "golden years". I've been told I have aspergers, decades ago when that's what they called it, so be it, look up the famous people that have had it, I'll take their company any day. No brain scan verification, just "social cues" and people in the field say I should get the brain scan. I *refuse to*. Social cues aside, I am "high functioning" and do quite well for myself. So call me anything you want, if you feel you have to put a label on everything, including the label maker, just don't call me late for dinner - 'cause I never turn down a free meal. What was the question again? Oooh, look, a squirrel!1 point

No offence, you're quite chatty for someone anti-social. Maybe you meant anti-socialist? (misspelling)1 point

I gave you the links for comparison our climate in 2009 vs 2023, which added almost + 10 degrees in my city.1 point

You aren't being polite in the conversation, you asked for "a SCIENTIFIC APPROACH", I gave you one, now you didn't like the truth, so it looks like you're a simple climate change denier rather than someone who supposed to be neutral.1 point

Here you go. The temperature in my city has risen by approx. 10 degrees Celsius only in 14 years alone (it's a very big rise!). An the charts don't go below 2009, otherwise you'd see a much, much bigger rise. 35 °C (4 Sep, 16:30) 2023 https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/@2969392/historic?month=9&year=2023 26 °C (9 Sep, 13:00) https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/@2969392/historic?month=9&year=20091 point

I don't, but you forgot* about numerous thermobaric and white phosphorus blasts going on near European borders for two years every day. *intentionally or not1 point

Finally! A new member with proper English, in addition to AstroSkipper and Dave, of course! You can't even imagine how sick I can get when reading dry English. I hope it evolves into a pleasant conversation.1 point

Thanks for sharing your settings! Due to compatibility reasons, I removed the self-update function of the internal list of the default filter lists which are directly available after installation of uBlock Origin. This internal list is no longer maintained or updated by the developers and is unfortunately obsolete. Thus, I maintain this internal list in my releases by myself from now on. I know the source https://filterlists.com/ very well and installed a few filter lists from there in the past. So if there are still maintained filter lists that are particularly valuable or effective, I will add them to the default ones. Abandoned or not working illter lists will be removed if I am aware of. Both lists, EasyList (Optimized) and EasyPrivacy (Optimized), will be added in my coming release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 due to your positive experiences with them. Thanks again for your opinion!1 point

Yes, you can follow the developments here, with instructions. The Legacy uBlock Origin for e.g. the New Moon browser does not have the "Quick fixes" list, so you'll have add it yourself to "Custom". This is the address: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/master/filters/quick-fixes.txt Since YouTube changes code very often, be sure to update the filter regularly. [Edit] I'm not sure these rules are compatible with the Legacy uBO... I don't see them in the logger.1 point

This program is more valuable now that YouTube has begun a fight against ad-blockers in the web browser. Advertisements, on top of the overhead of the browser, lead to very poor experience. A method of disabling YTDL is likely in the works too because we can buypass the whole site by loading a video through search results.1 point
