How then you'd explain MPC-HC fully decodes H265 on Vista? Also, is decodes with acceleration. Vista doesn't have its own native H265 codec (just like XP).4 points

Maroc from MDL has updated his release MPC-HC from version 2.1.2 to version 2.1.2.18. Here is a quotation from his original post: It works absolutely great. I adjusted MPC-HC to play YouTube videos in 480p quality due to my weak Windows XP hardware conditions.3 points

Thanks for replying! I know BNavigator very well for years. Although I have installed it in my Windows XP partition long time ago and updated it on a regular base, I use it very rarely. Therefore, a confirmation that my release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 also works properly in BNavigator should come from an user of this browser such as you. Thanks for that!3 points

Hello @thomasxxx! Thanks a lot for posting a new solution! You see very easy to post here. One recommendation for further posting. Use bold text and font size 18 for the headline only due to better visibility! When someone reads your post, the headline stings you right in the eye and the reader knows immediately what this is about. Just a recommendation, of cource! Anyway, this is a good post, and your English is totally ok. Hi @thomasxxx! Thanks again for posting your solution! Although I can't test this solution (No problems here at all!) I've listed it in the third post under Specific solutions: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183498-general-and-specific-solutions-for-problems-regarding-auwumu-in-windows-xp/?do=findComment&comment=1216507 Cheers, AstroSkipper3 points

Yes , exactly the same less amount (in Vista) with Nvidia HD audio almost everywhere. I only need DTS HD MA , I don't care about the other though. By the way , when I install Nvidia driver on Vista , it only adds simple "DTS-Audio" to supported formats (device properties) , while on Win7 it adds plenty of formats . It is intentional , I mean what prevents it to add more formats , it "sees" my HD capable devices (videocard and receiver) , so should be no problem , yet Nvidia doesn't want us to listen HD audio on Vista. I'm looking for a simple solution to unlock it. P.S. Much loved MPC-HC , apparently, hates Vista. When I manually choose and force playback of 5.1 HD tracks , it just plays them as poor quality 2.0 audio and blocks direct bypass completely ! So much for the popular player . I'm not sure what they have against Vista.3 points

I have tested both your and the regular uBlock Origin Legacy extensions on BNavigator and found them to work, generally, and no better than on similar browser offering that are included for compatibility in install.rdf. I have used at least the regular uBlock Origin Legacy extension for over a year. Presumably, the extensions would likely also be compatible with Binary Outcast Borealis Navigator, which it is my understanding to have the same Application ID as BNavigator, the original project roytam1's BNavigator is forked from; however, I have never used or tested Borealis Navigator. BNavigator is a fork of the now defunct Binary Outcast Borealis Navigator Web browser, which itself is a fork of the Mozilla SeaMonkey Web browser. Those projects offer a derivative of the SeaMonkey Web browser only, and not the other SeaMonkey offerings (such as the e-mail client). I have found the BNavigator browser to be, applicably both individually and in concert, the most reliable (including compatibility with Web content) and best performing Web browser that @roytam1 offers (I have used and tested all the main ones). I have also found that BNavigator can still support extensions that were no longer compatible with newer Firefox browsers (and many of roytam1's derivatives). BNavigator is offered by roytam1 for download in the same place as his Mail News offering (which is also a fork of another Binary Outcast project; https://o.rthost.win/boc-uxp/index.php?sort=date&order=desc ).1 point

When updating to the newer one, is there anything I need to save/do/change, to keep intel or settings from past version of 68??1 point

Yep! I also tried IceDove months ago but MailNews is unbeatable in Windows XP and ideal for me, so to speak. It works with all my email services, can be wonderfully customised with extensions and supports OAuth 2.0. I can highly recommend it. And thanks again to @roytam1 for this port!1 point

well a problem todays programmers follow is that they use engines, very script like code, very much of copy paste often multiple engines like a engine for a engine and a next engine having weird names like "STD" or "dwrite" or "grafic engine" when i looked that hevc (h.265) public code i reconized like countless engines and scripts and this weird c++ 17 c++20 c++23 (that in reality do nothing useful like at all) then you see them copying these codes all around later on i actually saw that h.265 not even use a own encoder/decoder it loads external functions and dll´s via a script like "erm do me C:\123.mpg to C:\123.hevc" that was actually the reason why xp cant decode/encode that codec it is slit up into a windows engine from at least win10 ? maybe 7 i dont care and this dll what also is a engine (that calls a next dll -> and that 1 is doing the real codec) so after seeing that you have like 5 script engines before even 1 things happens (and those trigger like 100 of unneccesary functions older os´s dont have) so digging deeper into the rabit hole what do the real codec is not windows either or ffmpeg its that x265 codec that is doing the real codec the entire real math, logic is there https://x265.readthedocs.io/en/master/releasenotes.html#version-3-5 the math algo functions are in plain c - and in fact dont care about about some weird windows functions that not being done the heic encoder/decoder i made dont need anything of these files - because it do what a encoder should do it use the en/decoder relativ directly a illness we hopefully dont face too much1 point

The latest and probably the last good ported for XP should be 1.9.7 at max., MPC-HC version 1.9.18.46 doesn't even work with Vista. I haven't tried on XP, surely won't work due to LAV filters, also. Take note, that version 1.9.18.46 is at least two years old.1 point

I don't think crx4chrome is doing anything else but what they have always been doing, collecting Chrome extensions and links to them on Google's servers. Maybe they just take "default" flavor, so even if extension exists in both variants, they may take V3. KeePassXC-Browser for instance, still pure Manifest V2 as they haven't bothered to update it yet. I seem to remember there being a special parameter for Google's CDN that can specify manifest version, would have to try some extension that is suspected to be still available in both to confirm that theory. BTW, got latest and greatest KeePassXC-Browser running on slightly older Chrome, should work on 80, old minimum was 93. KeePassXC-Browser_1.8.10.1.zip1 point

@jaclaz, thanks for the links and further recommendations! In my series "My essential tools for solving problems in Windows XP", I listed my favourite tools I use for years and helped me a lot. Here is the link to the list of all parts: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183498-general-and-specific-solutions-for-problems-regarding-auwumu-in-windows-xp/?do=findComment&comment=1216513 Most of them are well-known, easy to use, and quite up-to-date. Tiny Hexer is a good and useful tool, no doubt. And, you are right, the newer does not necessarily mean better. And of course, there are other programs which really need regular updates. But, Tiny Hexer was abandoned in 2007, the last version is 1.8.1.6 of July 2007. No further development since that time! I fear that compatibility with all newly created binaries will sooner or later suffer from this circumstance. In other words, I don't like to entrust important files to such an old tool for modification anymore, at most very old files. Spoken for me only, of course! Apart from that, the presentation of the files to be edited is much clearer in WinHex, especially the customization of the text area on the right which represents the text interpretation of the hex values. All in all, Tiny Hexer seems very old-fashioned, but nonetheless, it worked with the files I tried to edit. So everything is fine. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point
-
Hello @jaclaz! I've installed your recommended hex editor Tiny Hexer, and it's an interesting alternative. But frankly, my recommended tools HxD and WinHex are more recent, full of additional features, and still getting updates unlike Tiny Hexer. In most cases, I use WinHex to modify files, and I am very happy with it for years. Nonetheless, thanks again for your recommendation! Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point

Hi , I may have some news . Yesterday I was testing ALL Opera versions with the newest Kernel (by redirection) and the last that worked with extensions was 47 , 48 didn't say anything at all , but refused to instal the extensions due the known "locale" thingy (but launched anyway) . The most interesting part , starting from 49 it began to want "ResolveLocaleName not found in KERNEL32" , does that ring a bell ? See "LocaleName" , perhaps this is what used to identify the locale ? Also , any chance to add the missing to shell32 for newer Operas ? "SHAssocEnumHandlersForProtocolByApplication" and the other one.1 point

... Again , this is most probably due to the lack of a proper installer for the XP/Vista Interlink fork (Mail News); my advice again would be to install official Interlink on a supported OS (default installation location and 32-bit architecture would be preferable), export the written key as a .reg file and then merge it on your XP machine; sadly, I'm not interested in testing that e-mail client, but modify the paths accordingly if the Mail News fork doesn't advertise itself as "\Binary Outcast\Interlink"... In the above case, you can always modify yourself the "Winapp2.ini" file locally, since it's open source: https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/commit/ff1cb36 Just my 2 eurocents, of course (auguroni )... EDIT: By inspecting more closely your CCleaner screenshots, I can now see that indeed Mail News does create "\Binary Outcast\Interlink" directories, so you should be fine with a .reg file imported from, say, Win7 x86... EDIT2: Since you also keep Thunderbird installed, you can probably figure out yourself what subkeys should be contained under "HKLM\Software\Binary Outcast\Interlink" by extrapolating from "HKLM\Software\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird"; shouldn't be hard to create needed entries yourself1 point

I made modifications to its hash function to use original zlib's hash function for processors that has no SSE4.2 instructions support by runtime CPUID detection. Disclaimer: I only made some limited testing with snail-slow QEMU for emulating processor without SSE4.2, so please test with care! 32bit: http://o.rthost.cf/gpc/files1.rt/palemoon-27.6.0a1.win32-git-20171002_2-e68ab5b3d-xpmod.7z 64bit: http://o.rthost.cf/gpc/files1.rt/palemoon-27.6.0a1.win64-git-20171002_2-e68ab5b3d-xpmod.7z1 point
