Everyone can laugh however he or she wants. But what you do here in public readable or visible for all visitors of this forum is a completely different matter. Especially when someone asks for help. And BTW, I couldn't care less whether it's this one or that one who behaves like that. That doesn't make it any better.3 points

I'm curious to know, what was written in the original title? Also, not sure I understand about the worries, are you worried it might've been a virus that caused the registry damage?3 points

Hello again @anton12! My Windows XP computer is equipped with a P4 CPU and 1.5 GB SD-RAM. This machine is very reliable, too. Windows XP or Windows 2000 are definitely good choices for such old computers. So, I understand you very well. In any case, your CPU definitely lacks the SEE2 instruction set. That's the reason you are running SSE or IA32 builds of New Moon and Serpent. When one uses old hardware like we do, one has to accept the fact that many modern websites can no longer be accessed properly. That is why I have written what I do in such cases. Maybe, the coming SSE build of Mypal 68 is your last chance (but I assume it won't work either as the HUK24 websites most probably uses SSE2 instructions) but generally I would feed a more recent system with such cumbersome websites. I do this by throwing crappy websites like this at my Android 9 tablet. Even there, you have to use devices equipped with Android 5 or up to run most recent browsers which are very often needed for such modern, bloated websites. Kind regards, AstroSkipper2 points

To change - run regedit and navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers Here you need to simply add/remove the keys you want or don't want. Don't forget to make a backup! Do it by going to File > Export... in the regedit.exe application.2 points

@msfntor, thank you for your worries, but it doesn't bother me much. I'm able to give likes almost everywhere (except for the non-technical discussions).2 points

Well , it's simple , earlier you wrote that the bug is due to "Nvidia DX11 drivers" , so I was wondering why it still happens even if I do not have them installed and on a machine without Nvidia card and even without Intel video drivers .2 points
-
I gather you're a Vista fan , right ? In that case you ought to know , there are no Vista video drivers for Intel Haswell at all , so I couldn't install them , even if I wanted to. This bug happens on Vista RTM (without DX11 support) , how would you explain it then ?2 points

How much do you think would be a fair price for e-waste? GTX 680 is 12 years old, Titan is almost 12! Unfortunately electronic components degrade, capacitors dry out, etc. It's electronic waste now. The OP needs to check them carefully before buying, Lots of them could've been repaired several times to this date. P.S. And where you live, do they cost more?1 point

For XP anything higher than Kepler makes no sense, Get something like GTX680, they are very cheap now. About 30 Euro. Or GTX780 for 50 Euro, Titan for 70.1 point

I use Chrome Font Super Enhancer on Chromium variants that aren't Edge to improve font legibility. Still, it doesn't work for some sites/fonts for whatever reason, eg.: Edge: Pale Moon: I can't get that contrast with ClearType settings on XP. I remember messed with ClearType settings in the browser, must have been Serpent 52, but they didn't do anything either. Nothing works on XP these days. That extension does, at least the older version, unsure about the current, would have to check, but last time I checked, it worked in Chromium 86 based browsers - OS shouldn't matter.1 point

I personally think it's inappropriate and rather rude to laugh at someone who uses old hardware and has to wait much longer for tasks to be completed than on a powerful computer. And there are people who are attached to their old computers and don't follow the disposal mania of our society. Just to clarify, SSE or SSE2 instruction sets are exclusive features of a CPU. These are specific instruction sets that can be addressed by programmes such as browsers. An SSE release of a browser therefore uses at most the SSE instruction set of a CPU and does not contain any code for instructions which need the SSE2 instruction set or higher. Therefore, your statement "these UXP browsers have an SSE without SSE2" does not make sense as a browser is not a CPU. And you see, I don't laugh at such statements, either.1 point

How does your registry entries look like? Post a screenshot? Look at. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell (for specific file types) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers (also for specific file types) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFileSystemObjects\ShellEx (for all context menus) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell (for folders) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers (also for folders)1 point

I'll make sure to follow the advice. No, I don't. Why? I don't complain, I make scientifically proven observations, which is expected on a forum like this. Period.1 point

No, I'm talking about the first picture, the one that has ‘Super/Natural’ text in it, this screenshot shows the second one, you need to right click on it, choose save, it will save as WEBP.1 point

Both of you are GitHub account owners , there's a comment section at the bottom of the userscript's homepage (it's being hosted on GitHub Gist), so, perhaps, if the author was made aware, he could investigate and, hopefully, accommodate it for Google's Advanced Search ... Just saying ...1 point
-
Thanks! So basically the same as @VistaLover achieved with his uBO "hack". However, since my default search when using Google goes via "Advanced Search", I'm afraid this script will not be useful in my case... As I stated in my previous post, there page 2 and onward lead to search results for "null" (obviously not what I'm looking for).1 point

Agreed. I'm actually one of them. It would take two hands and one foot to count the digits of times where MSFN Members have "disliked" the manner in which my OCD manages my PMs. "Not my problem" At any rate - @Sampei.Nihira, any guidance you may have on implementing the webp patch for 360Chrome browsers would be helpful. I could very likely "learn it" on my own, to be honest, but the priority on doing that is very very VERY low and other 360Chrome users would "probably" prefer to not wait that long, lol.1 point

Just to show the skeptics that the vulnerability is real and not mere fearmongering, you can download a "bad" WebP image here: https://github.com/mistymntncop/CVE-2023-4863/raw/main/bad.webp Important note: This WebP file does not contain any malware or exploit code! I wouldn't link to such a thing here on MSFN, even with a warning (and if it did, I don't think GitHub would allow it anyway). But it does trigger a buffer overflow in unpatched software, likely leading the software to crash. (For example, I got the "Aw, snap!" page in 360EE.) Therefore, you can use this as a "quick-and-dirty" test for vulnerable, unpatched software. On patched software (I used @roytam1's Serpent 55) the image displays a hard-to-read, black-on-grey image of the text of the above URL, showing that in theory, a WebP file can both contain actual content and exploit the overflow bug. I was pleased that Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 detects the problem with the file and quarantines it! I'm not sure how thorough MSE's scanning is, but if you have Windows 7, it appears that MSE (which is free AV software from Microsoft) will keep you safe from (at least) downloading a file with this exploit. I don't say this often, but hooray Microsoft! Also, the fact that MSE can successfully scan WebP files for this issue implies that other Web sites should be doing the same thing. Now I don't know for sure that they all do, but it gives me some confidence that a malicious WebP will be caught before it can spread over social media. Email providers should be doing the same, of course. So that makes WebP seem a lot less scary than it was in September. I'm not sure which, if any, AV products will do the same for XP or Vista. That might be worth testing.1 point

Hello @Mark-XP! Sorry for the late reply! I totally overviewed this. I managed to get the "Alternating row highlighting" working in MailNews right away without any problems. So what is your problem in detail? For me, it works like a charm. Here is a small screenshot from my MailNews client: Greetings from Germany,1 point

To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.5 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.5.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6665.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/i5bckh1l88a42in/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6665.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Our days are numbered, too. But, joking aside! Speculating about the future is one thing. But we are (probably) not clairvoyants . The actual state is decisive. It's not only about your needs or mine. The fact is, MailNews and DreamMail Pro work with many email services, unfortunately with the exception of Microsoft 365. But in old operating systems, not every new gadget has to and can work. Then the user just has to use a more up-to-date operating system. There, the choice of email clients is much greater, and presumably, one of them will work with the latest stuff.1 point

A small update information! DreamMail Pro has been updated again and is now available in version 6.6.6.5. It is still XP compatible. Great to see ongoing development! Here is the download link: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.6.5.exe Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

I know under the new owner Twitter isn't what it used to be, but hey, could either of you consider it as a good alternative to MSFN ? I mean, a good alternative for you in terms of *getting likes* and *exchanging niceties* (like @jaclaz recently said) ? I had to just freaking disable the new posts, 'cause I freaking want to read technical posts and not how either of you worried of not getting enough likes !1 point

I think you won't be impressed . Even though they were quite expensive , they aren't for hard core gamers . I prefer German quality , so I always buy Fujitsu Siemens (yes, they were still made in Germany up until 2018, don't know about now). If you want the models , some of them are D3012-a1 GS3 with 16GB DDR3 , D2912-A1 GS2 16GB and I game on a haswell board Siemens Fujitsu D3221-A12 GS2 W26361-W3321-Z3-04-36 , LGA 1150 , DDR3 32GB , it supports SLI . I love their design and quality . none of the Fujitsu Siemens goods have failed me yet. (for decades). Also , got several 24 inch Fujitsu Siemens premium monitors 16:10.1 point
