That's brought a tear to my eye. What an effort. A bit of early feedback: Win95C + IE4.01 SP2 404s. Attached as ie4.png. That might have happened with the original Windows Update for all I know, but it'd be great if IE4 could be made to work. Win95C + IE5.01 Attached as ie5.png. Look at that! I get a Security Warning pop-up to install and run "C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\ident.cab" each time I visit the site. My Critical Updates Package contains Security Update, January 17, 2000 and Critical Update, September 10, 1999. Both get "Could not be installed because the file was not found" There's a page error at line 679 of catalog.htm: Object doesn't support this property or method: 'document.all(...).Style'. Is this a Microsoft issue? Trying all the shown IE5 patches (ie5-patches.png) resulted in four of the six being installed, with Offline Browsing Pack and Internet Connection Wizard not being found. Are the missing files simply a case of someone sourcing them and contributed them to the project?1 point

by extension , embedded is gone and so is the context menu ... https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/142425/ posted earlier on page 18 , with some changes to the default settings. and with some file deletes to slim it down to 1mb.1 point

Same here (since login is not required). I did a Google for "is msfn.org down" during our outage and performing that search just now does show Twitter in the top search results and it does have a "up and running" status message. The Facebook page also shows up in the top results - but no status message. I think that's our tell-tale - Twitter is likely the preferred but only our next outage will really tell us (four years to the month between most-recent post and second-to-most-recent post).1 point

That's all I was asking about originally. I wasn't looking for a temporary MSFN replacement. I didn't think this thread had to go to the extent of "people with opinions" or bashing sites. Anyway. If someone were to update Facebook reliably on the MSFN page, that would suit me more than fine.1 point

Websites are interactive. I did expect a catalog or at least usage instructions. The information in your response should be displayed if the server can't determine what else to do.1 point

<OT> We are straying quite a bit from the original topic but I will add that I am also a member at Eclec and I did visit Eclec when MSFN was down to see if other both-site-members posted anything in regards to the outage (I didn't see one). I use the Maxthon theme at Eclec - but even the forum owner wouldn't recognize it on my computer, I love Stylus and hate non-scrolling background images, box shadows, linear gradients, anti-ailasing, dark mode, and forced hardware acceleration - all are disabled on my setup. I do not get any CPU spike even on Marmaduke Ungoogled v113 on Win10. This wouldn't be the first web site (new or old browser) where background-images, box shadows, and linear gradients effected performance. </OT>1 point

Get some time to breathe. The hearing of that injunction is postponed to 21 July (yet another unforgettable date in 2019)1 point

A few weeks ago I had this problem on my Win 7 machine, Resource monitor had stopped displaying anything. ( CTL-ALT-DEL, Task manager, performance, Resource Monitor) If I started monitoring under the monitor button it would only show data in overview, Cpu and memory. Disk and memory were blank. Performance Monitor also gave errors about performance counters. CMD (run as administrator) lodctr /r fixed the Performance Monitor but not the Resource Monitor problems. I then saw asolution on the internet that said to rename C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup. This is hard to do as the files are currently in use by Windows. I searched the in C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup for the files that had been changed around the time that the problem occurred.I found that EtwRTDiagLog.etl and EtwRTEventLog-System.etl were changed and renamed them with no problem, Restarted my computer and both perfmon and resmon now work correctly. I do not know if lodctr /r was necessary or if only one of the files needs to be renamed. Both renamed files can be deleted after the reboot. I hope this helps someone as it took me about 6 hours to figure out RJM1 point

Hello @roytam1! Breaking the walled internet by using a good VPN service would not work at your location if this unbelievable (from a European perspective) case happens? Or to put it another way, is the use of VPN services allowed or possible at all in Chinese regions whose internet is walled? In any case, I sincerely hope that nothing bad will happen. We appreciate you and your work, and need you here. Your browser editions are legendary, essential and extremely important for users of legacy OSes. Without them, a new dying process of XP and Vista would probably begin. Kindest regards, AstroSkipper1 point

I forgot to mention that SuperAntispyware still works on XP. The program is paid. There is a 14 day trial version.I have tested that work the latest version 10.0.1252 (173 MiB) from 2023 and version 6.0.0.1250 (30 MiB) (2017-12-22) with updated database. But the "System tools" option stays frozen looking for items in the latest version (I have waited 10 minutes). While in version 6 it works fine. https://www.superantispyware.com/1 point

As we all know, MSFN is already represented on Twitter and Facebook For the future case that MSFN is not available for a longer period of time (several days), a short message there would be desirable. You don't have to have a Twitter or Facebook account to read such a status message. Personally, I am not a social media fan, but if such accounts already exist, then perhaps they should be used. Unfortunately, when MSFN was down on 03/06/2023, there was no message. Nor on the following days. The last messages were from 2019. Such accounts are then of course useless.1 point

You may be right, but when the MSFN status thread was set up on RyanVM (by dencorso I think) it was a nice place to be able to go and check in with others when MSFN was offline. Of course it's not essential to have somewhere like that, but I always thought it was a good thing to have.1 point

Thanks, but I'll say again, what we're looking for is a forum where people can refer to a thread which discusses MSFN's current status if it goes offline, for whatever reason. We're not talking about a substitute for MSFN as a whole, which I'm sure we all hope will never become necessary! On RyanVM here (archived) we just had a social thread where we re-grouped when MSFN was down. I may be wrong, but I think it was instigated by dencorso. As that forum no longer exists, we'd just like to find a suitable replacement.1 point

See: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp#related-scripts I know, but I put the link here anyway for others to test. Indeed. I'm amazed he still manages to cope with the hundreds of duplicate issues.1 point

What are "lazy extractors"? Thanks, but yt-dlp doesn't work on my non-SSE2 cpu. Occasional commits indeed, mostly by 1 person. Youtube-dl's main developers abandoned the project (2 years ago?). The question is how long dirkf will keep this up.1 point
