  1. I'm working on getting Office 2013 to work on Vista, I tried an old method to install Office 2007 on Windows 2000. I had to replace the gdiplus.dll that comes with Vista, with the one that comes with Windows 7. But I get a license error, I have only tried project, I have not tried visio or the complete suite (Word, Excel, etc). Then the office tools, such as the language configurator seem to work without any problem.

  8. I preferred much older versions of Ccleaner from before Avast/AVG took over Piriform in 2017. Version 5.64 had annoying nagware. Ccleaner’s end of support was discussed in a Windows XP thread March 2020. Of course there are other similar products (there’s a list on page 1, and shelby just mentioned another one on page 74 of this rapidly-growing thread which is not about software that requires the extended kernel to work).

  9. Ahhhh ... yes, society what is that? I'm far removed from it but I do get it. Haha .... You are sailing on rough waters and the tide is changing - go with the flow even if feels repetitive but make sure its exciting and fun and go with the current even when the waves are going against you. You sound healthy and strong to me but a bit jaded much like our beloved George Denis Patrick Carlin. Wasn't he great but oh so bitter and very loved. He always said he was a misfit, and honestly nothing wrong so long as not hurting yourself. Never give up and keep sailing though and accept the mindless guidance. EDIT: add more information and fixing mistakes.

  10. I'm on leave this week, so more relaxed at least. Depression is an old friend of mine, when everyone else is gone, she's still there. I've got dragged to the doctor once, they must have thought my relationship with her got unhealthy. It was weird, the only question I remember being asked by my personal physician is if I have a girlfriend. I've got pills and got referred to a psychiatrist. I only went there once, we were just talking a bit. I asked what's the point of trying to achieve anything since none of it matter when you die. His answer was simply that it matters while you're here. I don't remember anything else from that session. I only took few of those pills (Lexapro - Escitalopram) and oh boy...never again! I don't know how to put it, but it's like they drained me of my essence. Just felt completely empty, so stopped taking them. It was a time when I had no idea how to go on. Finish school or seek employment...both mission impossible. The latter somehow proved possible. Seemingly had more luck than brains, but since then, I guess I am what they call "functional member of society". Kinda lame overall, but I'm sailing through it. With a bit of a mindless, repetitive, passive fun thrown in-between. I imagine I'd be even more lost then than I am now.

  18. ... Well, OE Classic has to access the web to connect to its Activation Server ; not respecting system proxy settings aside, the only way it can reach the internet is via your Network Adapter (Ethernet/Wireless/TAP (aka OpenVPN); I believe packet inspectors/sniffers that bind directly to the Network Adapter are available ... So, by inspecting web requests made by OE Classic, it is possible, at least in theory, to identify the Activation Server's "details"; however, even when you get such "details", you still have to devise a way for the app to connect to it... Have you also tried the cmdline way (needs Administrator privileges) ? netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie netsh winhttp show proxy (to revert: netsh winhttp reset proxy ) Edit: Sadly, above syntax needs Vista+ (thanks @AstroSkipper ) FreeCap is a similar, FREE, software... Sadly, development has been discontinued at version 3.18 (original author's site has been taken down since) ; review below: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/route-all-internet-software-and-game-connection-through-open-proxy-servers/

  19. As far as I can see, you can try to set ProxHTTPSProxy systemwide by the command proxycfg -u. If it doesn't help, you can revert this by the command proxycfg -d. And did you try in the IE Proxy Settings only the setting of HTTP in combination with the option "Use the same proxy server for all protocols"? Anyway! Software which can't be activated easily is actually not worth its money. Maybe, you should try to get a refund. BTW, @roytam1's suggestion to use ProxyCap sounds promising in any case, though.

  27. Nonsense. If it can be implemented, @RainyShadow's suggestion would work fine. But I've run out of patience trying to explain it, so this will be my last word on the topic of separate NM 27/28 browser profiles. It is what it is. ... except as I said, the whole issue is that OE Classic doesn't honor system proxy settings ... If I could get it to use ProxHTTPSProxy (which is already up and running on my XP system) I wouldn't need to discover the activation server's name or IP in the first place ... it would just connect to its server and activate! While that would work, a patch to honor system proxy settings, so that OE Classic could contact its activation server and activate as intended, would be far better: I hadn't used it enough to tell, but besides activation, the only time it needs to connect to the "web" (i.e., HTTP/S) would be to download objects linked in emails (fonts, images, CSS, etc.); so those functions are presumably also crippled without proxy support. Note that both Microsoft's OE and Windows Live Mail do honor system proxy settings and do use ProxHTTPSProxy already, so I would have expected the same of OE Classic. I fear I've wasted far too much of y'all's time on this. My original request was to see if any of @roytam1's email clients would work, or could be made to; it now appears the answer is no (at least, not without considerable work), but @soggi (IIRC) mentioned OE Classic, and off we went. I do think OE Classic is a good solution for someone wanting an upgrade path from MSOE for personal email, who doesn't need to use a proxy to access the Internet, and who's willing either to pay the $37 or to put up with the many restrictions of the free version. It just doesn't seem to be the right solution for my particular situation.

  32. In 1906, the Bronx Zoo Put a Black Man (Ota Benga) on Display in the Primates' House By Bill DeMain 1906 photograph of Ota Benga, described as being taken at Bronx Zoo. / Public Domain, Wikimedia Commons When the New York Zoological Park (now the Bronx Zoo) opened in September 1906, people visiting the Primates’ House encountered a startling sight. There, amid the cages full of exotic animals, they found a human: Ota Benga, a member of the Mbuti pygmy tribe from what was then known as the Congo Free State. Though he was just 23 years old, this was not the first time Benga had been publicly displayed as a curiosity. Benga was brought to America by explorer and missionary Samuel Phillips Verner, who first exhibited him at the notorious “human zoos” of the 1904 World’s Fair. His life before the fair is largely a mystery—as Pamela Newkirk writes in Spectacle: The Astonishing Life of Ota Benga, “Given the various conflicting accounts offered by Verner as to how he acquired Benga, the true story will probably never be known.” The Man With a Five-Cent Smile A 1904 St. Louis Post-Dispatch article claimed a tribe had held Benga captive as a slave until Verner purchased him at a slave market. A 1916 New York Times article said Verner met Benga at a Belgian Army station, where soldiers had saved Benga from a cannibalistic tribe. And there were more variations in-between. Beyond that, it’s also thought that Benga had a wife and two children, who were killed either by Belgian forces looking for ivory or a hostile tribe. In 1904, Verner brought Benga to the U.S., where he displayed him at the St. Louis World Fair (officially called the Louisiana Purchase Exposition). The main draw was his sharpened teeth, which he showed for five cents. Though newspapers at the time said they were shaped to facilitate cannibalism, tooth sharpening was a common form of body modification within Benga’s tribe, and did not indicate someone who noshed on human flesh. After the fair, Benga returned to Africa with Verner, then later accompanied the missionary back to the United States. According to Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s African American Lives, “Otabenga married a second wife, a Batwa woman who died from snakebite soon afterward. The Batwa blamed Otabenga for her death and shunned him. That decision appears to have strengthened his relationship with Verner.” Though again, Newkirk points outthat Verner gave differing versions of events over the years. By the time Verner brought Benga to New York City, the explorer was broke. Eventually, he contacted William Temple Hornaday, the then-director of what is now the Bronx Zoo, who agreed to temporarily loan Benga an apartment on the grounds. Whether Hornaday had ulterior motives from the start is unclear, but before long, he was displaying Benga as another exhibit. "Is that a man?" According to New York Magazine, in his first few weeks, Benga wandered around the grounds of the zoo freely. But soon, Hornaday had his zookeepers urge Benga to play with the orangutan in its enclosure. Crowds gathered to watch. Next, the zookeepers convinced Benga to use his bow and arrow to shoot targets, along with the occasional squirrel or rat. They also scattered some stray bones around the enclosure to suggest the idea of Benga being a savage. Finally, they cajoled Benga into rushing the bars of the cage and baring his whittled teeth at the patrons. Kids were terrified. Some adults were, too—though more of them were just plain curious about Benga. “Is that a man?” one visitor asked. Hornaday posted a sign in the Primates’ House listing Benga’s height and weight—4 feet, 11 inches tall and 103 pounds—and how he had ended up at the zoo. “Exhibited each afternoon during September,” it read. If Hornaday’s attitude toward his new "acquisition" needed further elaboration, it was summed up in the tone of an article he wrote for the zoological society’s bulletin: "Ota Benga is a well-developed little man, with a good head, bright eyes, and a pleasing countenance. He is not hairy, and is not covered by the ‘downy fell’ described by some explorers ... He is happiest when at work, making something with his hands."... 34. First of all, thanks Tihiy for developing this great app. I am not sure if I would want to use Windows 11 without it ^^ I'd like to report a couple of (admittedly very minor) bugs that I stumbled across. While I suspect you have your hands full fixing more serious bugs that MS adds with various Windows updates, maybe you can take a look anyway. First thing that is a little anoying is the white flash for XP-style flyout menus. Strangely, the problem is not so pronounced in the OBS recording, but it can be seen in the following clip: https://www.veed.io/view/1e4a9028-4128-4ff3-a819-78d426d020a3?panel=share The next bug occurs in Windows 7-style Explorer and is an incorrect mouseover tooltip for the "New Tab" button. It occurs when an Explorer window is opened for the first time after booting, not via taskbar or start menu, but via a third-party app like the download panel of the browser or via OneDrive: Also, when opening multiple tabs, only the last one opened can be closed via the menu. For the others, just a Windows error sound is heard: Again, I know these are very minor bugs, but I wanted to report them anyway Best regards
