  1. To prevent user confusion, I strongly recommend disregarding the tutorials and contacting me directly instead about the extended kernel. The original post was removed as it was continuing to confuse users. There will be further discussion about the evolution of the extended kernel in the coming pages.

  2. WinNTSetup - a simple but powerful universal Windows Installer Features: Install (unattend) Windows 2k/XP/20??/Vista/7/8.x/10/11 x86/x64/arm64 Practically runs even on the most minimalistic WinPE selectable drive letter for the new Windows installation Fully automated with save/load setting in ini file and various command line options Install Windows also if nlite/vlite has remove winnt32.exe/setup.exe Integrate Drivers: normal PNP and Textmode Drivers Patch uxtheme to allow unsigned Themes Some common registry tweaks and *.reg file import DISM APPX removal, feature enable/disable Simple VHD creation and Installation Support "Windows to Go" for Windows 7 and later installs Supports WimBoot and CompactOS option for Windows 7 and later Supports all current WIM files: WIM/SWM/ESD and ISO files WinCapture - capture a Windows installation to WIM or ESD file MinWin - simple trimming WIM in memory before apply WinCopy - copy an existing Windows installation to another partition Offline Hotfix uninstall Offline password reset Not Supported: - No Windows embedded version (this includes WinFLP) - No upgrades of existing installations About driver installation: Every driver added in NT6.x windows will be added to the driver store. So it's not recommended to add countless driver, but rather more really required ones. NT5.x massstorage driver integration is possible thanks to Mr dUSHA powerful MSSTMake.exe tool To the Unattend option: It's possible to use an unattend.xml to run the Setup unattended. But as the actual WinPE Setup Phase isn't effective in that way of install, all Winpe related settings inside the unattend.xml won't be applied. Ini config file It's possible to save all GUI-settings to a ini file: push Ctrl + S to save all settings to an ini. push Ctrl + L to load all settings from an ini. A WinNTSetup.ini file in the same dir as the app itself will be loaded automatically at startup. It also can be selected via command line: WinNTSetup.exe /cfg:"C:\mysettings.ini" If you want to modify ini settings yourself, click-click has made a nice PDF for it. For advanced users there are also hidden settings described in the included WinNTSetup.ini.txt Command line: - Press F1 to get list of all options To install Windows in a VHD file: - requires Windows 7 as OS and Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise or Server 2008 R2 as Source - create a partitioned VHD and assign a drive letter (push Ctrl + Shift + V to use build in diskpart wrapper for this) - select the VHD drive as installation drive (make sure you boot drive ist a active primary partition on a physical disk) If you get an Antivirus warning from your AV software, please report it to them as a false positive and let them check it. 3. Thanks. I guess 360Chrome doesn't detect DST changes on Win XP.

  4. Thanks for your hints! I do not have important settings in uBlock Origin which are worth to be saved. Therefore, I cleaned my profile deeply before reinstalling uBlock Origin. I use eCleaner to delete all settings in terms of uBlock's entries in abour:config and I delete manually ublock0.sqlite in the subfolder extension-data of my profile folder. But, you are right. All users who have important, individual settings or rules should backup them before cleaning their profile folder. On the dashboard page, there is an item called "Back up to file"" to save settings via uBlock itself. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  6. Thanks for these files enuser2k I have not done much with Windows 11, but the volume and calendar tray is working with classic taskbar using StartAllBack. MSI Afterburner needs the 2008 VCRuntimes (both x86 and x64). Seems I broke these installers, will be fixed.

  7. Thanks! From your link: Note, that there are two items added to the lists pane, which will not work in the Legacy version: AdGuard URL Tracking Protection Block Outsider Intrusion into LAN Also, before uninstalling the previous version, make sure you have a backup of your settings before deleting '$PROFILEDIRECTORY$/extension-data/ublock0.sqlite'. I didn't remove anything from 'about:config'.

  8. Thanks for replies. Harvest done, busy with projects. To clarify my comments are specific to the environment and ravages of climate change. Everyone's situation is different for sure @Drugwash, thanks for the kind words. The need for us to do better is targetted towards those who are in a position to make a change. If someone is impoverished, unhealthy, aged or living in a disaster or war zone, of course focus on survival. For the rest of us, please brainstorm some ways to make a difference. IMHO relying on government is useless, yak, yak since at least the 1970s. World governments are too concerned with the immediate economy and ongoing emergencies. So much greenwashing, churning and wasted energy. To me it's grass roots, house by house, but fear it's too late. Not sure why i fret, we're not supposed to worry, the outcome may be predestined. Lots of insight have you @awkduck. I'm not interesting to converse with, please place public messages here, others may also be interested. In 20 years most of us Windows 9x geezers won't be around, so post whatever, wherever. My efforts are also part selfish. The city owned trees i water, for example, also shade my house and yard. Good to hear from you @UCyborg, welcome back. Something awry when the house may no longer have a roof upon return from work. Seems most have already been directly or indirectly affected. ***** My slower, daily use Windows 98 SE system (800 MHz, 32 MB graphics, 6 GB partition) was upgraded from 384 MB PC100 to 512 MB PC133 RAM. Many have beefier Windows 9x hardware though this would have been a superb Windows 98 system back in the day. My original build was only 450 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 16 MB graphics. Hard to tell if any performance improvement, other than helping avoid swap when multi-booting for a full-featured web browser. My Windows 98 boots will not likely need 512 MB RAM, the swap file may be deleted. ***** Full Windows 98 backup from a GNU/Linux multi-boot to USB stick, as root, example: cp -axv /dev/sda1/* /dev/sdc1/win89_202209 ***** Japan declares war on floppy disks for government use In Japan, 1,900 government procedures still require submission on floppy disk. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/08/japan-declares-war-on-floppy-disks-for-government-use/ ***** Seems newer hardware and OS aren't helping much with website loadtimes. https://www.datafantic.com/how-much-time-do-we-waste-waiting-for-websites-to-load/ ***** Microsoft executives say it's 'wrong' for managers to spy on remote employees' mouse clicks and keystrokes: 'That's measuring heat rather than outcome' https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-executives-call-remote-employee-surveillance-spying-wrong-2022-9 Hmm, well the world needs more humour. A quick search like 'is windows 10 spyware' is satisfying enough. I'll keep it old school with Windows 98 SE (Spyware Excluded edition), surely not whole truth, close enough.

  12. uBlock Origin Legacy modified by @AstroSkipper - Part 2 (obsolete) In the first part about uBlock Origin, I fixed the issue of the incorrect dashboard's display. After that, a member of this forum came up with the idea to replace the file with the available filter lists in my modded version of uBlock Origin due to loading problems that could be observed lately with these lists. A good idea, in my opinion. He replaced the file assets.json in the folder \assets with the one from the current web extension uBlock0_1.44.5b0.firefox.signed.xpi in my corrected version uBlock0_1.16.4.30.firefox-legacy-mod-by-@AstroSkipper.xpi. Thanks for that to @nicolaasjan! I had a closer look and came to the conclusion that in case of such a modification not only this one file but also all related filter lists should be replaced in the folders \assets\thirdparties and \assets\ublock, for consistency reasons. Freely according to the motto "Who says A, must also say B" (German saying! ). Furthermore, @VistaLover drew my attention to an unofficial, more recent version of uBlock Origin Legacy with the version number 1.16.4.31b2: This xpi file has already been updated with regards to its filter lists and is now the basis of my new, modified version of uBlock Origin Legacy. Here is the complete changelog of what I have modified: The file dashboard.css fixed as described in my post "uBlock Origin Legacy modified by @AstroSkipper - Part 1". The file assets.json replaced by the most recent one. Missing filter lists in the folders thirdparties and ublock added. Existing filter lists in the folders thirdparties and ublock updated. This is a screenshot of the location inside the xpi file where all filter lists related files can be found: And, here is the download link to my new, fixed version of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2, credits to @nicolaasjan and @VistaLover: https://www.mediafire.com/file/rv4cdfsm9ddqq30/uBlock0_1.16.4.31b2.firefox-legacy-enhanced-mod-by-%40AstroSkipper.xpi/file I compared this new modded version to the old one, and it works really great. The updating of the filter lists are now much faster than before, meaning flawlessly. No eternal waiting for update end! But that's not all! And again it was @VistaLover, who pointed me to another solution for fixing the glitch in the dashboard page. Thanks for that again, @VistaLover! In the Pale Moon Forum, a solution is described how to fix this glitch using the advanced settings of uBlock Origin: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=28882 Open the dashboard page, under the item Settings, enable the option "I am an advanced user", click on the icon at the end of this option, and change the value for uiStyles from unset to font-family: sans-serif. That's all! From now on, the dashboard page works as it should. And, here is the next download link of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.31b2, only modified in terms of the filter lists, credits to @nicolaasjan and @VistaLover: https://www.mediafire.com/file/zy1dpmtv2py9tws/uBlock0_1.16.4.31b2.firefox-legacy-filter-lists-mod-by-%40AstroSkipper.xpi/file Furthermore, two posts with all deeper information provided by @VistaLover: https://msfn.org/board/topic/182647-my-browser-builds-part-3/?do=findComment&comment=1226700 and https://msfn.org/board/topic/182647-my-browser-builds-part-3/?do=findComment&comment=1226717 Additionally, a link to the wiki of uBlock Origin's advanced settings: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Advanced-settings It seems to be the case that in the next releases of roytam1's UXP browsers the glitch issue in the dashboard page will be presumably fixed. If that is the case, all modifications due to the glitch issue won't be necessary anymore. But, I think they won't harm, either. And finally, an important recommendation to get a new installation of uBlock Origin Legacy working properly and flawlessly. After uninstalling the previous version (yes, the old version should be uninstalled), delete all remnants via about:config and in your profile folder! The remnants of uBlock Origin which can be viewed via about:config can be easily removed by the extension eCleaner. And in your profile folder, there is a file in the subfolder extension-data called ublock0.sqlite which has to be removed manually. Delete the browser cache, too! If doing so, the updating of the filter lists will work like a charme after installing one of my modified versions. All users who have important, individual settings or rules should backup them before cleaning their profile folder. On the dashboard page, there is an item called "Back up to file"" to save the user's settings via uBlock itself. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  13. JFX After applying MinWin for Windows 11, the modern control panel does not open. Also, Personalization and Display Options in the desktop context menu do not open. Managed to figure out how to fix it. You need to copy the following dlls from the original image to C:\Windows\System32\ - SwitcherDataModel.dll (is responsible for the initial call to the control panel) - ServicingUAPI.dll (responsible for displaying the content of the control panel) - SettingsHandlers_Gpu.dll (display options) - SettingsHandlers_OneCore_BatterySaver.dll (power options) So far, these errors remain: volume in tray not working (need to find appropriate dll for it) calendar in tray not working (same) explorer crashing when trying to change wallpapers (same) MSI Afterburner not working (if anyone has managed to get it up and running, please let me know how).

  18. I see that ReShade falls back to DXGIFactory1 on Windows 7 or earlier. It's the same thing I did, but I'm not sure why they failed unless this tries to call some of the interface methods exclusive to DXGIFactory2. I worked on the D3D kernel mode synchronization objects and it is very difficult. So it will take some time to get Vulkan.
