@nicolaasjan, @RainyShadow. After a long search, I found the problem with this, as well as difficulties downloading addons from dfferent platforms. The problem was eMatrix 5.0, when tightening too much. I had the following umatrix rule: matrix-off: behind-the-scene false But since two or three versions ago, it interferes with the above. The solution, other than changing it to true, is to also add the following 3 rules (I'm not yet sure if the first two are strictly necessary) behind-the-scene * css inherit behind-the-scene * image inherit behind-the-scene * other allow Hope it helps someone else.3 points

This is a small tutorial for enabling Windows Aero in Vista build 5219 You will need the following items: 1. A relatively recent version of VMware Workstation. 2. The WDDM Display Drivers (u can use version 6.5, 6.5.2 and 7.0) 3. set the workstation version to 6.5/7.x 4. The Vista 5219 Installation DVD. Open regedit then browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DWM. (if the key does not exist, create it.) Over there, create a DWORD key named EnableMachineCheck and set its value to 0. Log off/restart to take effect and Aero will automatically enabled (if it not, change the screen resolution) Here is a screenshot If you want to try it on another build, I recommend use 5212 and 5231 (it will work) Happy testing1 point

Hello, I have been reading the windows 98 section for a long time and it has very good content on the system itself and the programs. I have discovered many things there. From here I thank those who have participated and helped people like me. From one corner of the planet I still use this system from time to time and it is wonderful. (sometimes hateful) About me I can tell you that I am a PC enthusiast in general. I have many machines and my favorite is the Pentium 3 at 1ghz with windows 98. The system is very good and the games too. Language is a limitation for me. I have to translate everything, so my level of participation will be zero or low. but i will read you regards1 point

Thanks. Wasn't sure about dll's. I see that after I installed SP3 there's a lot more security checking going on.1 point

Yes, I completely got used to it months ago. While I do agree that it does sound a bit annoying, I think of it as an improvement, at least in my opinion.1 point

You are facing problem. After installing Update POSReady 2009 Windows Installer Service not working Can you try this .Bat file ? Cr : Stormit (ryanvm.net) msifix.bat1 point

That's exactly what I was referring to. Thanks for the clarification. Still a bit annoying but I suppose you can predict where the icons will be depending on where you right clicked on the screen.1 point

Wow ... sorry I missed your posting ... very cool! Thanks for the share :)1 point

Tried it and not working here either, would love to see that get fixed. Been using it on XP and without question despite a few bugs it's the best pre-Quantum version I've experienced. Works great on Win7 and 10 as well. There must be a reason Moonchild abandoned 55.0 for an earlier one but glad he did since it would probably have ended up with the same performance issues that PM and 52 have.1 point

Put them in the Windows Update folder. then, folder should be called "shared"1 point

The reason why this happens is because of the menu positioning changing (since it's almost close to the top edge of the taskbar), so the icons change sides. This is probably what you are referring to, right?1 point

(I thought it important to quote all these relevant parts, due to the intervention of a great number of completely irrelevant posts...) @roytam1 : This seems indeed a genuine bug affecting the most recent NM28 release, however it's particular to the 64-bit binary ; as others have already chimed in, the 32-bit binary behaves as expected, below is my own screenshot from it, running (pristine new profile) under physical Windows Vista SP2 32-bit (fully updated, with selected WS2008 updates manually installed): Of course, I couldn't test the 64-bit equivalent there , but I borrowed briefly my sister's Win7 SP1 64-bit laptop (fully updated to Win7 SP1 EoS), and the story is the same (as already reported by @nicolaasjan) : Taking a look at the provided changelog, and at a quick glance, I can only spot [NSS] ported mozilla upstream changes (a squash of several, NSS-related, Bugzilla bugs) as potentially the culprit for this breakage, manifesting exclusively on the 64-bit compile (but I could be wrong, I have been in the past ) ... Could someone also test, for that same bug, the 64-bit distribution of latest Serpent 52.9.0 ? I don't have a need myself for the 64-bit binaries, but, obviously, others do... Thanks in advance for any additional info...1 point

I hear ya. I'm even starting to get used to the new right click menu and using the icons for cut, copy, paste, etc. Although a complaint I have on there is that it seems sometimes the icons appear on top and sometimes they're on the bottom and I have no idea what triggers that but it's a bit annoying because you think you're just going to quickly click on something and it's not there...but then you look and it's on the other side of the menu. But with using something like that...I wonder how much it would be an adjustment to go back to the old style. The only thing I could get used to again is the classic 98 theme. I know there's a project that can actually restore it but it really bogs down my laptop since it relies on .net 4.8 and a few other things to run.1 point

I did! It was fantastic! My complaint was only mostly in the music department where some of it got a bit repetitive but other than that, I really enjoyed it a lot. Luckily I made the decision to hop to Windows 10 for my daily driver or I never would've been able to play it. My main computer had a dualboot between it and Windows 2000 but somehow the 2000 install got corrupted so I cannot even boot into it anymore.1 point

Real story. I wake up in sunday checking clock I got. It shows 8:00 and I am meeting friend on 10:00 so I decide to sleep one more hour. Then friend calls me that where I am and I realize was DST... Likely I am not only who had that since not every single clock in planet got auto DST or internet time. I hate whole thing period. I have not been on computer or doing lot on home so I missed DST changing. Someone could say I just add notification but it is easier cut whole DST1 point

I've thought this for years was an utterly redundant feature of modern 24/7 societies, particularly with IT meaning we're often communicating with other people who are in completely different time zones and can be anywhere in the world. For many people IT has made DST an irrelevance. You can understand it, just about, for countries in the far north (Scandinavia) and far south wanting to optimise their limited daylight hours to the working day but for the rest of us having to change the clock times every six months is absurd. I've just finished going around the house resetting all the clocks and equipment that don't do that automatically............................tedious. The usual excuse in the UK for the those bleating about having a permanent standard time is that in the north farmers will have to start work in the dark and schoolkids will have to go to school in the dark and come home in the dark. That risks them becoming victims of more road accidents. Yet the one trial they did in the UK from 1968 -1971 swapping to permanent British Summer Time (BST) in March that first year, which I am just old enough to remember, actually showed it reduced the number of road traffic accidents in total. In fact I went to school in the south of England and like hundreds of others in the area we had a significant commute by foot, train and bus which meant that for at least four months of the year: November to February we were setting off before the sun had risen at 07.45 - 08.00 and arriving back home 16.30 - 17.00 after it had set.1 point
-
I agree. Permanent Standard Time. I'm a morning person and I prefer the "real" time. I know some people who refuse to observe DST and they basically live in their own time zone during DST...1 point
-
How do you people feel about DST? I've read USA is going permanent DST while Europe will continue to change clocks at least until 2026. Initially, it was supposed to end by 2021 or so, but I didn't catch what time would end up permanent. I think either two options above are bul***** and vote for permanent standard time. Daylight Stupid Time belongs in the history books.1 point

Hi Roy, Looks like you did a lot of work with 55.0, nice job. The good news is I've been using it for a while and it doesn't seem to have lost performance. I'm able to use it on Twitter and other troublesome sites with 52.0 without issues so far. There are some sites where I'm running into javascript not functioning properly. For example these pages are coming up blank when you click on one of the popular cities links. Works normally in 52.0. Maybe just a pref setting? https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/local The radar on this weather site won't come in or let me do a search on the top box. Not sure if it's noscript-related but the previous 55.0 wasn't a problem: https://weather.com/weather/radar/interactive/l/96f2f84af9a5f5d452eb0574d4e4d8a840c71b05e22264ebdc0056433a642c841 point

Thank you for your answers. The problem with the images was due a browser extension bug "Lightshot (screenshot tool)". Dextyckroms: I was using adblock, now trying ublock origin, hope it use less memory. Humming Owl: I think the problem with this browser is the lack o personalization optinions. Now i´ll change to spanish to cheer for freedom: Gracias amigos y que Dios libere a Venezuela y al mundo!1 point

You can easily add search engines with the addon "Add-to-Search-Bar". Is available in the Classic Add-ons Archive (caa:addon/add-to-search-bar). For New Moon you'll have to edit the install.rdf of course. I think this gives you properly formatted xml files.1 point

I cannot find any references to that address in chrome.dll. I suppose it could be some "certificate update" but I block any-and-all "certificate crap" on my computer, it's a broken system and I feel more "secure" WITHOUT IT.1 point

Is this a kindergarten now? It was your friend Dixel who introduced the term “fake news” into this thread. I agreed with him, and you had no objections, so it must be some other new member who you now think is “teacher’s pet.” I simply dislike implausible posts, but I will try harder to disregard yours in the future.1 point
