"What Are You Listening To?" Yes I'm listening to my wife! I’ve decided to create this thread, since the amount of half working programs have became kinda crazy. Handbrake - 1.3 is the latest officially supported version. At this time the newest version work just fine, but it is no longer supported. Beamng.Drive and Rocket League - Both give "App stopped working" When you properly exit them. They function just fine, but this weird message comes up every time. Geforce experience - While you can install and open the newest 1.24 geforce experience, it no longer screen captures and many other functions stops working. 1.23 is the latest one that still work normally. VMware workstation Pro - The newest 16.2.1 version of this still functions on 8.1, but 3D acceleration has been turned off for some reason. 16.1.2 is the latest one that still functions as intended. Logitech GHUB - The latest version works if you update it through vista compatibility setting. For some users a warning saying that the driver is not digitally signed pops up, but everything still works. iTunes - See my topic on this. Onedrive - Microsoft claims that it will stop working on 1st of january 2022 Office 2019 - Somewhere on msfn I’ve seen people claiming that it can be installed. I use office 365 and it still updates to their newest version just fine. Ryzen CPUs - They work just fine. Don’t forget to manually install missing pci drivers from amd folder and usb 3.1 root hub. Use AMD’s windows 10 driver version 2.17.25.506 RTX 3000 - Unfortunately no known workaround has been found RX 6000 by amd - They seem to work. Sometimes you get weird colors on unity games. Please contribute to this list. Cheers1 point

Indeed it does ! BTW , windows firewall is weak , even dumb progs know how to add rules and bypass it . Comodo is good only if older versions are used .1 point

Never in my whole life used any of these . I don't even know what they are. Windows "update" is always blocked , but since you told us it's being used for it ... thanks for one more reason to delete it !1 point

Sometimes I kinda have to wonder what some of you folks do in your spare time. Killing operating system .dll's and calling it "privacy" or "security" - trying to hide from the law? JUST JOKING. But maybe, just maybe, my browsing habits are more innocent than some of us that lay asleep at night wondering what operating system .dll's are "doing". But like I say, JUST JOKING... Mostly...1 point

ESENT has been around since Windows 2000 through Windows 11. Maybe this will help explain ESENT, and convince you that it is both not "junk" and also useful. From https://www.minitool.com/news/esent.html: What Is ESENT? --------------- What is ESENT? ESENT is an embeddable transactional database engine. It was first provided with Microsoft Windows 2000 and has been available to developers since then. You can use ESENT for applications that require reliable, high-performance, and low-overhead structured or semi-structured data storage. The ESENT engine can meet a variety of data requirements, from simple data like hash tables to data that cannot be stored in memory to more complex data (such as applications with tables, columns, and indexes). Now, many teams at Microsoft currently rely on ESENT for data storage, such as Active Directory, Windows Desktop Search, Windows Mail, Live Mesh, and Windows Update. Besides, Microsoft Exchange uses a slightly modified version of the ESENT code to store all its mailbox data.1 point

To tell you the truth, people should just ask their doctor for a blood test to see if you are Vit D deficient. Be careful, this is fat soluble and can be toxic and build in your body. Might be better to supplement with Vit C and Vit B Complex as your body will pee out what you don't need. Also I hear turmeric is promising (I take all 3 now) and as you can see, I'm "normal" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7385774/ But, again, you need to know your levels, very easy to get PS: Sometimes with online IQ tests I do very well; other times not. I don't know, depends on how well I slept the night before. Oh ... if you get Sun (Natural Vit D) you will also have healthy melatonin levels which will improve your sleep quality. I'm not a doctor I just play one on television.1 point

I seem to recall that @msfntor listed a very long list of IP Addresses that DCBrowser reaches out to. I've never been satisfied with DCBrowser but it does still remain on my To-Do List. I would encourage caution only in the sense that when 360Chrome was being "critiqued" for telemetry, we had between a dozen and two dozen folks doing that "critique". msfntor is basically the ONLY person that has done any level of critiquing on DCBrowser.1 point

Do not delete this file just because Vista works without it. XP may work without it also, I have not tested, just saying that 360Chrome did not put that .dll in your system32 folder. For reference -- https://xpdll.nirsoft.net/esent_dll.html1 point

So delete this junk , maybe ? Looks like crapware , if Vista works without it . Again , I searched through the registry and I have no such folder , yet Vista works just fine !1 point

First : it's not a "pandemic" . It's at least two years , so it's endemic . Second : it's an IQ test.1 point

in the mega folder there's a folder called "sidebar redirection files for 2018+ update users" and inside that you'll find a dll copy that dll to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe.local *you* must create the siderbar.exe.local folder then you need to run DLLredirectionenabler.reg from the mega folder and restart1 point

Thanks. Yes, many websites will complain because of the certificates not being valid (XP can't handle some new certificates). Updating the certificates with this tool or maybe starting the browser with a clean profile might do the trick, but in most cases that problem will persist. If none of those options work and you want to see that website correctly you will need to use a Firefox-based browser for XP. Roytam and Feodor browsers have no issues with certificates, at least the ones I use. If you want to read more here is this link --> https://stackoverflow.com/questions/33922231/why-cant-windows-xp-handle-newer-ssl-certificate-versions And, I found this on GitHub, the files present in there are supposed to update XP to support "TLS 128-bit & 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) cipher suites" (certificate related I suppose). From what I read, that update requires "Windows Embedded POSReady 2009" so I don't know if it will work on normal XP-SP3 installations. If you don't have it you can try installing it to see what happens. Cheers.1 point

Here are some of the original Driver CDs for the D875PBZ. https://archive.org/search.php?query=D875PBZ This model uses the Intel CSA bus for the network card. Perhaps, for correct operation, you need the original driver for this board, supplied on the official Driver CD. Previously, you could download updated driver versions for this model on the Intel website. At a minimum, their names can be found via web.archive.org from around 2003-2005.1 point

I've had SATURDAY'S where I'll install Windows TWO DOZEN TIMES. I do a completely unattended install with a very large number of AutoIt executables and the best way to fully test is to "fully test". The full install on an XP x86 SP3 only takes about 40 minutes whereas an XP x64 SP2 takes closer to 70 minutes. It's actually kinda fun to watch. Mouse moving around unattended, program file locations typing themselves unattended, programs opening and moving to a different monitor then closing so that their last position is memorized so that they open on the correct monitor when I go to use the program (all six of my computers have anywhere from 2 to 5 monitors, none of them only have one), mouse wheel and buttons configures unattended, desktop icon locations set unattended, EVERYTHING that has a setting is pre-set for me, fully automated!1 point

@Humming Owl I have put the "master_preferences" file in the main folder next to the "360chrome.exe" file. Can also be used for registry entries (*.cmd): @ECHO OFF Reg Add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\360chrome.exe" /ve /t REG_SZ /d "360Chrome" /f 1>NUL Reg Add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\360chrome.exe" /v "FriendlyTypeName" /t REG_SZ /d "360Chrome" /f 1>NUL Reg Add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\360chrome.exe\DefaultIcon" /ve /t REG_SZ /d "%ProgramFiles%\360EE Chrome\360chrome.exe,0" /f 1>NUL Reg Add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\360chrome.exe\shell" /ve /t REG_SZ /d "open" /f 1>NUL Reg Add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\360chrome.exe\shell\open\command" /ve /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d "\"%ProgramFiles%\360EE Chrome\360chrome.exe\" --user-data-dir=\"%%"UserProfile"%%\Local Settings\Application Data\360EE Chrome\" -- \"%%1\"" /f 1>NUL Reg Add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\360chrome.exe\shell\open\ddeexec" /ve /f 1>NUL PAUSE EXIT1 point

Nice. I wasn't aware of the "--user-data-dir" option. Where do you put the "master_preferences" file by the way? Cheers.1 point

OK, I had everything configured as I wanted, and it was really running quite smoothly, which was refreshing after that ordeal with those defective backups. However, the hard drive decided to fail on me, which was totally frustrating, because it meant doing everything all over again. To that end, I repurposed an old SSD I had laying around and then ordered a Dell XP x64 SP2 Reinstallation disk (this machine is an Optiplex 390). I figured might as well just install x64, since I had the disk, have 8 GB of RAM that it would be nice to use all of, and, well, the hard drive died, which was a good excuse, for I probably would've stayed with 32-bit XP otherwise. The installation went smoothly, but since Dell doesn't offer official support for XP x64 on the Optiplex 390, there are no XP x64-specific drivers offered, so I instead had to hunt them down myself. Fortunately, it wasn't too hard, for the official-for-this-model 32-bit XP and 64-bit Vista driver packages each happened to include some 64-bit XP drivers, seemingly by chance. I was thus able to piece together enough "official" drivers to get a 100% working setup with all hardware fully operational. As for updates, I got it kinda-sorta mostly current using RyanVM's update packs slipstreamed into a copy of the Dell disk, plus a bunch of manual installation of other packages (namely, .Net Framework and WMP11 (and their respective updates), plus the VC++ redistributables) after the install was finished, so I'm pleased to say I have accomplished what I wanted. c1 point

it will coz theres simply nothing to innovate on 2D surface frames so you can either have 1-colored bul***** like they had with win 3.1 // 8 // 10 - which (for some reason) all id*** call modern or sort of "3D" (classic) style or anything bitmapped (lets call it XP style) or translucent which came with vista/7 and now is comming to some sort back again tho it looks more like KDE/Deepin to me but meh... but does look really matter that much ? people seemengly only comment on new look, nobody gives a rats arse it is still inherited windows 10 spyware1 point
