  1. No, you can't. Did you ever read the rules or are they like stop signs to some people? Here's a piece of advice, never engage in criminal activity. Loose lips sink ships.

  3. Yes great choices; I would suggest using Snappy Driver Origin personally as from what I have heard it is more reputable. Certainly is a good idea to use a variety because some catch other drivers that one may miss. Although, it's VERY important to keep in mind to make full OS image backups before installing drivers lest you end up with a blue screen of death. As sometimes driver software will hand you drivers that may not be completely compatible out of the box with XP x64; if at all that is. You can use a free disk application called MiniTool Partition Wizard Free 11.4. Just use the feature Migrate OS to SSD/HD Wizard and then from there pick option A or B. (The reason I suggest this older version is because the last time I checked later versions dropped that feature from the free product). Hmm, I have yet to play around with 360Chrome, but it does look promising! &&~ Oh and Avast AV is also a great choice Indeed. Well, here is another option; I have found that Comodo Internet Security Premium 11.0.0.6802 seems to work quite well on XP x64 and still scans properly; also it still receives AV / Web Definition Updates. Seems to be the last truly stable and functional version now (At least from my tests). Since many versions of 12 have some bugs / compatibility issues with XP x64 or have completely dropped support altogether. (Make sure to download and keep Ciscleanuptool x64 around in case you wish to properly uninstall Comodo in the future). &&~ Also, if you are looking for another nice layer of security; I have found NoVirusThanks OSArmor works well with XP x64 and is free for XP users. Well, I wish you luck @VistaEX and if you need help with something I'm sure you shall find it, just make sure to do as much research as you can and lay out a plan; that way it will be more or less a smooth process.

  4. @VistaEX Through this post, you would get all your questions answered. If not, ask me and I will answer. Your e6430 will surely run XP x64 just fine. The memory limit of 4 GB on x86 versions is raised to 128 GB on XP (or Vista and Win7) x64. First, install XP x64. Prefer using an updated ISO. Then, install drivers using Driver booster. You can also use Snappy Driver installer, but Driver Booster worked best for me. All your drivers including Intel HD 4000 driver will be installed. Use 360Chrome for web browsing and Avast AV. For a complete guide on how to eliminate Chinese telemetry and convert Chinese to English, check out @ArcticFoxie's incredibly helpful tutorial on how to do so. Almost all apps compatible with XP x86 are compatible with x64 too. @XP-x64-Lover and @TrevMUN , any suggestions?

  6. I voted "yes". I will continue using XP, but as a VM on my Fedora 33 (Linux). The reason for this choice are several: lack of support of new hardware, programs dropping support for pretty much everything, C++ Redistributable no longer available, can't run Skype, can't run Teams, can't properly use Office 365 unless I use the browser, no AVID Media Composer, no Davinci Resolve, no x266 or H.266 VVC decoding nor encoding, no hardware acceleration for new-ish GPUs and no drivers whatsoever for new GPUs, no proper NVME support, no new version of Java and ultimately no UEFI support. I think that in the future, we're gonna see more and more users with a configuration like mine in which there's Linux installed as main OS, Windows 10 for work/productivity and lastly Windows XP/98/Android as VMs for anything else and nostalgia.

  7. Yeah. I was looking into it and, at least at a cursory glance, Dell actually didn't support XP64 for the Latitude E6430. Even though XP32 is explicitly supported. The only available driver/software downloads are for XP32. I'm a bit surprised. That might not be the be-all end-all; there could be drivers out there which Dell doesn't have listed on this page. You might try asking @XP-x64-Lover for help; if they're out there, she might know where.

  8. So I am currently rocking a 1050 Ti and I am looking for a new GPU. I wish for my hardware to at least RUN on XP or Vista (so definitely 10 series nvidia) so I was wondering how the 1080 / 1080 Ti performs on XP, Vista, and 7. I just want the ability in the future for those choices. Figured this would work best here in the Windows 7 part because its basically mostly NT 6.x.

  9. Possibly, my PC is really new for Vista and older (for some reason it ran fine on Vista when I tried it though, never had any timing or logon errors even after multiple reboots). I can probably do a KVM setup like you said, so I can have my main PC running Windows 10 Enterprise (Probably the previous H2 release for stability. Currently its Windows 10 1803 Enterprise and Windows 7 in a dual boot). Once 1803 goes EOL, I'm going to move that to 1909 Enterprise and get 1 more year of support. This means I only have to update once a year, or go to the latest H2 release and update once every two years.

  11. I am running dual system on same monitor and keyboard using KVM switch. I got XP system (Phenom 2 X4 945, 4gb ram, 8800gts) and "Modern" win7 and linux system (ryzen 7 2700x, rx580 8gb, 32gb ram) both in my dell ultrasharp, g110 keyboard and g203 mouse. I can use logitec gaming software on both since passtrough and can go to xp or modern system with press of button my desktop. Maybe KVM dual pc setup would work to you too. I can enjoy both of them whenever want

  18. Well you just tell your PCconfiguration: CPU, GPU, Motherboard and we will tell you is it possible to install XP on that. XP 64 drivers are myth from 2005-2006. And it is mostly not true. Geforce GTX 980 and all Maxwells, Core I7-3770k and up to Skylake possible. There is no big difference in drivers availability and if your configuration have XP-64 drivers, then who care if some eccentric old rare lan card that you don't have don't have XP64 driver. You know what i mean? I just found this article. As-well as this: https://www.win-raid.com/t4035f45-Windows-XP-Bit-and-Server-Bit-on-Modern-Hardware.html#msg61916 It shows that work on improving XP still are going. So i advice you to tell us your config, and if it compatible try XP64.

  19. I have zero issues with the latest f.lux on Vista (or XP). Though, v4 is less liked by me than v3. You can try v3 from here: https://justgetflux.com/flux-setup3.exe Though, something is wrong with your computer if the latest v4 doesnt work, and who knows if trying this older one will change that.

  20. Well I could use XP and Vista on more compatible hardware (I have a 3rd gen i5 system and laptop) so I think a 3060 Ti would work well for me because its the best value for what it is. I don't necissarily need the latest and greatest, so I could get a 1080 Ti but the 3060 Ti would also be a better deal, but using the 1080 Ti or 2060 would give me 8.1 support.

  21. Have you considered dual gpu? I have used win98 and win7 on same board once. Had radeon hd 4800 pci e I think and nvidia 6600 pci e on same machine. I disabled Unsupported gpu on win98 and was able to use 6600 on it. I wont remember all details but that is possible. Should work even with xp. That of course works only if you got 2x pci e slots

  22. The thing is, for the same price but also getting rid of XP and Vista support I could snatch up an RTX 3060 Ti and be more powerful than a 2080 Ti, but I also don't necessarily need that, but it would also be a good amount of futureproofing. Wondering if it's worth getting the older gen card or not.

  23. That sounds like a new computer? So it should have a 64-Bit capable processor at least, which our computers got around 2007. Smaller computers like netbooks came shortly afterwards, like the Intel Atom of 2009, which was still 32-Bit only. You have to get the proper Windows XP drivers for your machine. The question is, whether the manuafacturer provides any Windows XP drivers. Brand new motherboards won't have XP support, because Microsoft ended the XP support a lot of years ago. By the way, I like "duel booting" too! Old Windows 98 Pentium 3 against a Linux notebook with an Intel Atom. This particular Linux system uses the old SysV starting technique, which it's not optimised for speed. And the Windows 98 machine wins the "duel" on booting, despite being ten years older, but also ten times bigger!

  24. GT/GTX 10 Series does not have drivers for XP so performance will be very nearly 0. Vista performance with 10 series is crippled. If memory serves, DirectX performance is miserable. Any 10 series will work fine with 7, though. Perhaps you should consider a GTX 980ti. It works wonderfully with XP, Vista, and 7, and is only a bit slower than a 1080 would be.

  25. Maybe a bug? You could try it with another USB flashing program like Unetbootin? I use it with Linux, but there seems to be a Windows version too.

  26. What motherboard do you have? Or is there a motherboard you're looking at getting?

  27. I think whether or not it'll be worth it to you depends on what you like to do with your XP machine and what parts you're able to get. During XP's support period, XP64 had a reputation for not being supported by hardware/software. I personally have rarely run into that issue ... at least until after XP lost favor with Microsoft, and compilers stopped providing support for XP, thus causing newer programs to not work. But that's a hurdle all XP OSes face. The main advantage with XP64 is the ability to run 64-bit programs. If you're doing things that require a lot of RAM (e.g. running a web browser with a ton of tabs, video editing, rendering complex 3D scenes, gaming, etc.) you will definitely appreciate this feature. It's not just XP32 that is (normally, without the PAE mod) limited to 4GB; 32-bit programs in general, I believe, are also unable to use more than 4 GB of memory. 64-bit programs can use much more than 4 GB; I'm not sure what the upper limit is. And if you're like me and you max out the (normal?) memory cap of XP64 with 128 GB (because I'm nuts) your 64-bit programs will have a LOT of real estate to use. (I'm not sure if XP64 can go higher than 128 GB. Windows XP64 is technically more kin to Windows Server 2003, and Server 2003's Enterprise and Datacenter editions can take up to 1 TB of RAM.) The main drawback will be that you'll lose the ability to run 16-bit programs. If you've got some favorite 16-bit apps and you upgrade to XP64, you'll either need to have a spare machine running a 16 or 32-bit OS, have your computer dual boot with such an OS, or run those in a virtual machine.' The other question will be sourcing parts that are known to work on XP64 and have driver support. When @XP-x64-Lover located drivers for the X99 SABERTOOTH motherboards, I used that opportunity to give my daily driver some of the best hardware I could find for such a system: i7-6950X CPU, 128 GB of RAM, and with the .inf driver mod described at Matt's Repository, a GTX TITAN X (Maxwell version). It was a long-needed overhaul and damn worth it for what I do. I don't know offhand if we have a database of motherboards with known driver support for XP64, so before you take the plunge you'll want to do research. Odds are if your desired parts have XP drivers, they should have XP64 drivers or at least their chipset will. However, you will want to be sure before you try anything.

  28. The original Basilisk 52 project from "upstream" did have WE support, be it somewhat inferior to the one present in the Mozilla 52.6.0 platform they forked off as UXP; the MCP devs disabled/removed some WE features/APIs initially, e.g. id-less WEs were not supported, because Basilisk 52 does not observe extension-signing... Having partial WE support in their test UXP browser application (Basilisk) was something the MCP people felt quite uneasy about, given their lack of any will to further maintain that part of the platform code; coupled with their general disdain/aversion for WE (a Google Chrome spawned and Firefox-aped technology), they finally removed completely all traces of WE support in Basilisk 52 in February 2019 (Basilisk-52.9.2018.12.18 the last with WE support, Basilisk-52.9.2019.02.11 the first with no WE support). After consultation with members here (where are you @Mathwiz ? ) it was decided that Serpent 52 will continue to contain that (partial) WE support in an "unmaintained/use at your own risk" state ; WE related security issues are not being patched by upstream/our current maintainer; if you install from AMO, be warned that many (WE) addons there are marked in a blanket fashion as "working in Fx 48.0 and higher", but often times this is simply not true, because WEs of today are NOT being tested on Fx 48-52 ; additionally, Serpent 52 does not check AMO for WE updates, so that is left upon you (i.e. bookmark a WE addon's page on AMO and visit occasionally for eventual updates); be weary of WE updates, in many cases the updated addon uses WE APIs not present in St52... I personally use several WEs in St52, e.g. the userscript manager Violentmonkey 2.12.9 and userstyle manager Stylus 1.4.23

  31. For me using xp is not just the internet. It is lot more too. I got adobe photoshop, gimp2, paintdotnet, illustrator for photo editing. Then pinnacle 12, adobe premiere, avidemux for video editing. For listening radio/scaning radio freqs I got SDRsharp with RTL-SDR dongle. For tv I got happauge wintv soloHD DVB-C/DVB-T/DVB-T2 tuner that I use with DVBviewer to watch/record free tv channels. Then I got lot of films/videos/music/other contect on my hdd and windvd to play ones I got on dvd. For remote management of computers I got putty (latest build). Then I got old visual studio, pythonXP, microsoft XDX, symbian SDK for coding. For web I use mypal browser by Feodor2 and for email mailnews and for chatting escargot msn messenger 7.5 trough httpsproxy. I am sending this post from that xp system. For word editing office xp and openoffice. For pdf view sumatrapdf, then to sync data off phone nokia pc suite Then got plenty of games (half-life 1, 2, ms flight sim 2004, sims3, toca 3, quake 3, doom3, gt legends, dirt for starters) and all of my games controllers works on xp. I cannot see lot more things I would have to do on pc. So no XP is not going anywhere soon on me. And for some claims I found online. 1. XP will get flooded with viruses when connected to internet: well possibly will get attacked if connected to internet directly with public IP like ADSL broadband did back in 2005 here. 80% of computers are not connected to internet rather to lan that redirects requests to gateway on router and to internet. I got NAT and proper network level firewall (no upnp) and did not have that issue. I also use up to date browser with noscript 2. XP cannot support sata hdd or over 137gb hdd: yes xp cannot see more than 137gb if you got pre sp1 xp and no services packs at all. For sata if on achi mode need have sata controller driver I got 2x1tb hard drives on xp at SATA mode (both formatted at setup) and zero issues 3. XP cannot utilise multicore cpu: XP home edition is limited to 2 physical cpu/cores and pro to 4 physical cpu/cores. Multi cpu and core systems were out way before even vista came out. I have seen xp workstation with 4x pentium 3 xeons long ago. I got quad core phenom x4 945 and all cores works well on multicore enabled application. 4. XP is not optimised to fast computers: how do you define fast system? And it is not xp that utilises all system resources to it own use. Apps do and I have used lot of cpu intensive apps without notable slowdown compared win10 for example on same pc if no sure test it and do not believe all FUD they spread online.

  32. I wouldn't consider myself to be a hardcore diehard; I just enjoy it, and for me, it's a challenge to keep it running. When somebody says you 'can't' do something, that makes me want to prove them wrong even more! I intend to hold on to it so long as my aging hardware continues to grow old gracefully :)

  33. Individual Windows XP updates can still be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog. I suggest that we archive them and also generate a list of SHA-2 hashes so we can keep the update files and verify that they haven't been tampered with.

  35. You're way overreacting. It'd have been a beautiful of gesture of making the project open source when he decided not to participate anymore. He didn't have to but he knew well that there were thousands of people that did enjoy using the software, who were eager to get the Aero effect back.

  36. LMAO I have moved on long ago. I'm not an id*** to refuse to update my OS so I can use visual software that's unsupported. I'm also not the first or the last person to think he should have open sourced it to help the community.
