Using a server installation as a daily driver
superleiw replied to TheNewStatesman's topic in Windows Server 2008
Some older games might also require Windows Media Player (+Media Foundation) which can be re-enabled by installing the Desktop Experience Feature. On Server 2016 and higher, this is not required because installing the OS with Desktop Experience automatically installs the Media Foundation Feature as well. - Today

Not sure about Server 2008 (R2) but on Server 2012 and 2012 R2 some DirectX functionality got intentionally removed by Microsoft. Both of those OS are lacking the following files : XAudio2_8.dll , XInput1_4.dll , XInput9_1_0.dll This may affect games/emulators and also some applications. Thankfully it's possible to just copy these files from their Client counterpart into the system32 and syswow64 folder on Server ! -

That's one way to look at it. But another way to look at it is that your computer is supposed to do some of the work for you, otherwise you may as well be living in the 1800's. At work, I can do the work of THREE people because I use scripts and macros and know how to get my computer to do some of the work for me. That is, afterall, why they hired me instead of another one of the folks doing 1/3rd the "efficiency".

I tried this with the Asus P8H61-M LE R2 with CPU 2Gen Sandy Bridge + RAM 2GB CPU patch works but I need also use memory patch by Rudolph (PATCHMEM.EXE) I tried the GeForce 6200 PCIe card but no driver works 77.72, 81.98 - memory protection error VXDLDR, same as https://msfn.org/board/topic/141402-windows-95-21ghz-cpu-limit-broken/page/7/#findComment-949596 there is one PCI slot on the motherboard but Win95 sees no card in the Device Manager (I tried SB128 and SB Live), OS not see any PCI devices: I managed to install the VBEMP iGPU driver and I have a native resolution of the 1280x1024 monitor but it does not work 3D SATA disk works in IDE mode, I use 160 GB and 5 GB primary active partition. OS see partition but no any IDE controller drivers in Device Manager: keyboard USB (bios emulation PC/AT) mouse PS2 (motherboard has one PS2 port) If I start Win95 with a USB FAT32 stick connected, he sees it as a fixed hard drive D: and you can copy files from/to it -
My Windows XP OS Addons and Update Pack (2023)
Zorba the Geek replied to Zorba the Geek's topic in Application Add-Ons
I have made a new update pack to remove Automatic Updates. As Automatic Updates is required for the entire installation of Windows I have had to remove it after installation using a batch file called by an entry in the HKCU RunOnce key which means that you have to set up a user account during setup. There are two versions of this adddon depending if Windows is to be installed on drve C or drive D. I am not a Windows command scripting expert, but it ought to be possible to write au.bat so that it detects the the drive letter of the partition on which Windows is installed using an IF EXIST command maybe in conjunction with the GO TO command and imports the appropriate reg file to delete locked files during the next reboot . This would remove the necessity for two versions of the addon. If anyone has an idea how this could be done please let us know. They should have equal functionality. Though the Windows 7 version, built with Python 3.13 might be somewhat faster (didn't check). P.S. I've fixed the update issue with the .exe versions; no errors and warnings any more: [debug] Fetching release info: https://api.github.com/repos/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp/releases/latest [debug] Downloading _update_spec from https://github.com/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp/releases/latest/download/_update_spec [debug] Downloading SHA2-256SUMS from https://github.com/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp/releases/download/2025.08.16.082053/SHA2-256SUMS Current version: nicolaasjan/yt-dlp@2025.08.14.072314 Latest version: nicolaasjan/yt-dlp@2025.08.16.082053 Current Build Hash: 3becb2e3a07da4635929c347ef2c2499e30ab1752b55154d7168a47eca0bff66 Updating to nicolaasjan/yt-dlp@2025.08.16.082053 ... ... Your generalised , yet unhelpful , comment about AVs aside, what I actually meant with "berserk" was that the ZIP archive (and contained yt-dlp.exe binary) shared by nicolaasjan previously here was flagged, more specifically the wrapper DLL file "libxt.dll"; I'm sure this is a false positive, yet many AV engines won't "tolerate" well such wrapper DLLs, which hook and alter system file behaviour ; on VT, half (31/67) the engines listed there ALSO flag the archive as "malicious": https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/6ee52d1561e7ba3fc833eef35673d35b5325b2a5aad4efeeda5a1ae2c08aba41/detection ... but let's NOT turn this into an AV pros & cons discussion; MSFN has a dedicated forum/thread, oftentimes turbulent and cyber-bullied ... I whitelisted the archive and binary, what I wanted to convey was that the binary wouldn't even launch under Vista SP2, let alone perform a video download test ...

Are there any USB 3.0/xHCI drivers for Windows XP x64?
reboot12 replied to GD 2W10's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
What problem to create a forum account to get full access? You need to register on many forums to download an attachment. P.S. Anyway, just read the previous post carefully to get drivers without creating an MDL account. -
So far the WinXP and Win7 versions have equal functionality, right? "makes my antivirus solution go completely berserk" That's the trouble with anti-virus, and it uses your computer power to display his berserk behavior.
-
You were right, there was an error in my `update.py` (Locally; not in the source on GitHub yet). I have uploaded a new x86_win7 file.

Are there any USB 3.0/xHCI drivers for Windows XP x64?

https://www.google.com/search?q=XP2ESD Edit: Much of the MDL threads linked above require a login to view. Github links can be found by searching for "XP2ESD". -
There is also another thing that could cause hang ups in bios. Disable USB booting if you're not booting from USB. That could cause hang ups in some motherboards because they're checking if what you plugged is bootable.

There is one thing that came to mind about MyPal 68 and that was it's SSE2. But after checking the specs, the Intel Pentium D Dual Core, which is in my system, is not only SSE2 but also SSE1, SSE3 and MMX compatible so that's not it. ????

Thanks for that info. So there is a reason why there is such a lag before Windows is fully functional. I'll try your suggestion.

Greetings It search for "yt-dlp_win7_x86.exe" but "yt-dlp_x86_win7.exe" exists. Please take look at _get_binary_name() in yt_dlp\update.py Best regards

I've had trouble with Realtek in the past. They can be a PITA. Just use those cheap TP-Links. They work fine on XP and you'll have less headaches. TP-Link Amazon
