Really can't see how it hurts people's eyes, but since we can't reach a consensus, I'll leave an option to turn it on/off. Next question is whether I should use Explorer. Most people don't know that the Run/RunOnce keys in the registry that are commonly used by malware are created by Explorer. So without Explorer, you'd be safe against around half of the malware out there. Explorer can also be a memory hog at times; I've seen it use over 100MB of memory before. Explorer's only advantage is that working with thousands of files is easier. So I'm thoroughly against having Explorer, but ultimately it's the public's choice.

@glent

There's not much except a command prompt...nothing interesting (yet). I'll try to get a screenshot of netstat with no opened ports :).

Yeah removing of explorer for a lesser version or even command prompt sounds great.

is there anything other than explorer

like an alternate one like Talisman Desktop

"Talisman Desktop" (Talisman) is a desktop alternative and shell-replacement for Windows 9x/ME and NT/2000/XP

or something else

even a linux type aprose like bluebox for windows

and others on this site
