No, the proof isn't in the pudding.

With your testing, you have wonderfully refuted your own statement. And that means the following rule applies: the proof is in the pudding. :P

WinSCP 6.1.2 is indeed the last XP-compatible version.

Interested members can find needed files on SourceForge

https://sourceforge.net/projects/winscp/files/WinSCP/6.1.2/

The "WinSCP-6.1.2-Portable.zip" is the one you need under WinXP (unpack and launch the .exe file); the problem arises if you want the app localised :P , because that zip archive ONLY comes with the default, en-US, locale (embedded into the .exe) .

The installer, "WinSCP-6.1.2-Setup.exe" comes with multi-language support, but it's built with an InnoSetup version that requires at least Win7  . To get the localisation files out of it you need use a tool capable of extracting Innosetup installers; my two "loved-ones" are just CLIs, innounp (at v0.50) and innoextract (at v1.9) ; however, if you are a GUI type, you can use the much larger app UniExtract2, which contains those two above CLIs as internal components (this extracting "suite" has been mentioned and linked before by AstroSkipper).

Once you have successfully unpacked "WinSCP-6.1.2-Setup.exe", you should have access to a "Translations" dir, with numerous "WinSCP.*" files; pick the one that has a file extension denoting your desired locale (e.g., for German it should be "WinSCP.de") and place that adjacent to the WinSCP.exe main executable inside your originally unzipped "portable" archive; launch the app (it'll still be in English) and through the app's configuration (Options -> Preferences -> Environment -> Languages) you can now select your preferred locale:

hRsaGy6.png

An app restart is then required for the change to take effect ;) ...

If you don't mind your "portable" app being in the much acclaimed PAF format, the people over at "portableapps.com" have prepared a "special package just for XP users", who have now been deprived of future WinSCP updates:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/WinSCP Portable/WinSCPPortableLegacyWinXP_6.1.2.paf.exe/download

That package has all available localisation embedded :thumbup ...

PS (and OT): This time, the WinSCP devs did not put Vista SP2 32-bit in the same boat as WinXP - the latest release as of writing this, 6.3.1, again via the "portable" distribution, launches and runs fine there (:P) ... Just as a FYI...

That's the kind of releases I am using for a long time. ssuper5sur5.gif

i had some time to look at it

his function is bugged up
basicly he write it himself "// hacky but works: small number is command id, large is submenu (a pointer)""
that indicates he tryed to trick it and had to do "hacky solutions"
he use a endless while true loop with ends escapes and continues, also goto´s,calls to the same functions in a function, and then seperators
for his menu to fix how he called it "bad seperators"
this ended up in a os specific solution

you useally dont do that because the operating system can might change the relevant codes over time (such as 7 to 10, or 98 to nt) - something like this already happend in the past

but the solution to this problem is possible as the author use multiple fixes all over around (probaly to compensate the problems)
it is easy to add that fix - anyways

it actually was a bit weird to find it out in win10 its just a flag, that was found like very quickly - but no in xp it didnt do that and gave very weird results even turned off xp was working ok while on 10 it did what it suppose to do - it was turned off as the code suppose to was changed to

let me know if it works now!

the .avif file (and heic) format dont work for me, neither on xp nor on 10 nor on 7 (both unchanged from the official download page and the changed version)

BTW, the most recent version 6.4 is already announced but not released yet. But it will probably not be long in coming. :P

AssImp - The Asset-Importer Library

Viewer and converter for many 3D Model formats (and their textures).

Had some variants based on v3 core from around 2014 to 2017. x86 / XP compatible. Which work quite well. But the v3 FBX-format parser failed on a few model files. A moment ago I stumbled upon a 2023 build of the Viewer/converter and improved v5 core. v5.2.5.0 SVN of 01-2023 to be exact. That is neat!

https://github.com/assimp/assimp/issues/4972

https://archive.org/details/assimp-master-build-21-jan-2023-winxp

For completeness:

Here is an older version based on AssImp v3 core. It is in the SDK installer and requires a little PE header patching to remove the NT 6 check.

https://github.com/assimp/assimp/releases/tag/v3.3.1

Here is variation also based on AssImp v3, but with OpenGL-rendering instead of Direct3D 9. It does use .NET though. But this one works on XP, unlike other similar builds.

@dmiranda Some good news for you!

Indeed. As @ED_Sln says, the new version works in XP, including also the portable (binaries) version. I was actually surprised that such a classic app would stop supporting XP, but it is now reported as a bug of the previous version. Let's hope support is maintained.

AOMEI Partition Assistant 10.2.0.0

Hi! Where can this one be found? I've looked around using etools.ch, with no look.

Also, I have an old 5.5 professional, that I have been using occasionally, with no issues. Are the new features here worthwhile, and as efficacious as with 5.5 professional? Thanks!
