finlandisgood Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I've been playing with a laptop and XP Pro. I wish I had done a POS thing before though.

Dave-H Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 It's only an update for the Japanese calendar it appears. I doubt many people thought there would ever be another Silverlight update, I only knew about it because it was offered as an update on Windows 10!
swash Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I'm getting an error while downloading with Internet Download Manager from some https sites like scribd & wetransfer. ""An Error occurred while creating a security connection to scribd.com". I've already installed the KB3055973-v3 & KB3081320 updates recommended by IDM since the last 2/3 years and did not face any issues with https sites till now. http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/support/xp-https-problems.html This error is encountered only on some https sites not all. Any help would me much appreciated. P.S. My PC is running win XP SP3 on Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with HT Technology
Mathwiz Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) Scribd.com only supports TLS 1.2 with AES now. Make sure you have the updates listed here (you can ignore the references to Skype): KB4019276 adds TLS 1.1 & 1.2 support to XP; KB4230450 (or any subsequent cumulative IE8 update) adds them to IE8 (which may or may not be necessary for Internet Download Manager). swash Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Thanks for the link.....as I never use IE8 (only FF 52) do I need to install both KB4019276 & KB4230450 or only KB4019276 is sufficient for me ? And should I be worried about the SSE thing....my CPU is intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with HT Technolgy ?
Mcinwwl Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/93455-what-is-the-sse2-instruction-set-how-can-i-check-to-see-if-my-processor-supports-it Quote SSE2 was introduced into Intel chips with the Pentium 4 in 2001 and AMD processors in 2003. Most computers produced in the last several years are equipped with SSE2. If you are unsure about your particular computer, you can determine SSE2 support by: Windows: A free download, CPU-Z, is available from CPUID that will indicate if SSE2 is present on your system or not. Internet explorer is integrated into Windows XP operating system. Install security updates for IE8 TLS 1.1 and 1.2 might be used by other software, that relies on system integration instead of their own, so even if you don't use it intentionally, it looks like better to turn on

I'm not sure, but if you only install kb4019276, you may need to make some registry changes to enable it. More info here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4019276/update-to-add-support-for-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-in-windows I included those registry changes in my .reg file to disable insecure algorithms, posted right after the post I linked to. This worked for me. I just applied PosReady hack recently and encountered the same problem. Google brought me here and your solution should be the most relevant. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askcorejp/2017/04/28/cleanupintlcache-temporary-profile-issue/ described very similar symptom but with other KBs, according to which the problem may not 100% happen but have some relation to the course of operation. I had about 6x/13x updates failed to install at first, saying "insufficient system resources", and later solved by login as Administrator to update, which may be relevant. The solution it points to, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/947215/you-receive-a-the-user-profile-service-failed-the-logon-error-message do not work, yet the registry checking it mentioned (the S-1-5-xx.bak item) could be used to verify the problem. The symptom is caused by C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\NTUSER.DAT and C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat do not have access permission for corresponding service account. I located those 4 files and set them to inherit the permission from parents, restart, and problem solved. The most recent created TEMP.NT Authority folders in C:\Documents and Settings would be deleted automatically. Using your cacls command should be quicker. Thanks.

I can confirm that Firfox 52ESR do not need PosReady hack to work with TLS 1.1|1.2; it handles TLS connection by it's own. My PC is running win XP SP3 on Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with HT Technology Internet Download Manager seems to rely on system TLS components, so it needs PosReady hack to update TLS support. But it still have limitation. After update, IE8 support TLS 1.1|1.2 with cipher suites: •TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 •TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256 •TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA •TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA •TLS_DHE_DSS_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 •TLS_DHE_DSS_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256 But I just checked scribd.com's cipher suites with Firefox52: TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256. So IE8 still cannot support advanced cipher that some site use. I suggest to use DownThemAll! in Firefox52.
