MaterSystem and Robinek - In my Internet Options, I see the option to turn off SSLv2 (already off) and SSLv3 (still on).  However, how do I turn off RC4 and DES?  (And if my system suddenly turns into a disconnected adding machine, how do I turn them back on?)

Thanks.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Ciphers\RC4 128/128]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Ciphers\Triple DES 168/168]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Save as "Disable ciphers RC4-128-128 3DES-168-168.reg", doubleclick and import.

Thats all.

You can toggle it to enabled if you set the dword value to 1 (each one or both).

Hi all,

I find out, WHY there is no nvme before win7 with the driver nvme.sys from openfabrics. It is because of  missed function(s) in storport.sys from win2003.

Interesting: When you change storport.sys in win7 against the storport.sys from win 2003

ON NEXT BOOT the nvme harddisk is gone. But this storport.sys from win2003 fullfills

all dependencies and exakt the same dependencies as original storport.sys from win7.

I think this means: All drivers, that work before in XP using storport.sys from win 2003,

also work now in win7. But not vice versa,

have a nice day

Thomas S., MaterSystem and Robinek - Now, on XP, after running Thomas S's .reg above and rebooting, if I go to howsmyssl.com, I'm "probably OK".  (Not sure if that's a compliment, but I'll take what I can get.)  And emails to my two email addresses picked up by Outlook Express 6 still seem to work.

My Internet Options - Advanced tab shows that I'm still using SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2.  However, on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit machine, without having made any changes, I see that I am using only TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 because SSL 3.0 is UNchecked.

So, on XP, in Internet Options - Advanced, should I UNcheck SSL 3.0, or will my OE6 throw down its hands and yell, "Enough already - YOU do it"?

ADDED - DIFFERENT GEM OF WISDOM - By the way, I have long been going to https://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate on Firefox but displaying it in FF on an IE Tab.  That has usually worked well, unless I first need to install the latest IE update manually because the CPU is racing.

After installing the last update ie8-windowsxp-kb4316682-x86-embedded-enu_cc345109f94dd7b763cc415385974632a058fd07

The search works quickly and without any problems.

Let me try rollback KB4316682, since I'm using the KB4230450 update instead of KB4316682

As long as the support is in place, security patches will be released. When the support is gonna end - on April 2019 - discovered bugs won't be fixed which means that a security vulnerability won't be patched, however, using an antivirus will prevent viruses, malwares, spywares etc from harming your computer. I know that knowing that a vulnerability will never be patched after April 2019 is pretty scary, but in a world like the one we live in, with antivirus softwares like avast that have streaming updates with definitions updated several times a day automatically, it's very unlikely to be harmed, even after Microsoft support will end on April 2019.
