Moved to Hard Drive forum There seems to be two main ways to fix this. One is to convert it to Basic with diskpart, but this normally erases the data. Another may be to hexedit info on the disk itself. Just to be clear about the history of this system. Was this SSD present in this notebook when Windows 7 was installed, and the system was just upgraded to Windows 10 with no hardware changes? Does an actual RAID controller appear in Device Manager?

Not sure how this was missed, but why name changing so often? XP-x64-Lover is now WS2K8-x64-Lover

I can use a 5 TB HDD in XP - how is that possible?
Tripredacus replied to Snear's topic in Windows XP
It is in the specs, such as page 8 in the sizes chart: "Bytes per Sector: 512 (logical) / 4096 (physical)" -
and the Activity Streams view condensed works again too!

Here is the manual for the Seagate 5TB: https://www.seagate.com/www-content/product-content/seagate-laptop-fam/barracuda_25/en-us/docs/100804767h.pdf It would appear that the disk has its own 4K Translator, and is designed to identify or expose the 512 to the system. -
Why can Ghost 2003 never clone a win-7 drive that is bootable ?!?!
Tripredacus replied to Nomen's topic in Windows 7
It is good to point this out. Of the two Ghost versions I have for DOS, as noted I use Ghost12 to image "standard" Win7 spindle disks, and because it supports the System Reserve partition, it is my go-to Ghost for imaging disks. But I wanted to point out that Ghost7's DOS version can image a disk with Windows 7 that is installed without System Reserve partition. -
Seeing that nag while logged in. On two different computers and browsers. In addition, the "condensed" view option on Activity Stream view has stopped working. It shows Expanded view if either option is selected.

I use Ghost12 in DOS using "sector copy" (Disk to Disk) for Win7 and it works for spindle to spindle. It doesn't work going from spindle to SSD. -
Toshiba Satellite 1135 does not turn on.
Tripredacus replied to Mustafa1913's topic in Hardware Hangout
If it were me, my next step after a power-on with no battery, would be to take it apart and do a cleaning and inspection. Also test the power adapter with a multimeter. Those are things we cannot teach you to do from a forum, if you have no experience doing any of that, it is better to find someone who does. Someone needs to physically look at it. I would find someone who does computer repair in your area. -

I wouldn't be surprised if it is using a controller. You should be able to find it in Device Manager. Look at the properties of the Disk. On details tab, if there is a "parent" property, this will be the Hardware ID of the controller that the disk is connected to. Then you can find the controllers in the IDE Controllers or Storage Controllers section on Device Manager. -

See if it will turn on with the battery removed. Just have it connected to the AC adaptor. -

So after 10 years, it is time for another go? When you say "turn on" what do you mean? What happens when you press the power button? -
Firefox ESR 52.9.0 - reCAPTCHA on google search
Tripredacus replied to reboot12's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
It happens if you search for at least 3 "different" phrases within quick succession. It is annoying when it happens to me because if Google actually searched for what you typed in, I wouldn't have to change the words I'm searching for! I often run into it most when I am trying to search for things in other languages, where I do not know what search terms I should be using. -
Why no Christmas logo on MSFN this year?

Has the christmas logo been used since this version of the forum software? -

In order to troubleshoot an issue on wireless, you need to shorten the distance. It means, that you would want to look at speeds within your network, between computers rather than upload to someplace online. That is to see if the issue is with the wireless connection/environment rather than some slow website or route link along the way.

Ok it is running from Documents. Put it into its own dir. Then you can put copies of the files that it "can't find" in that dir. Unless the program was coded with direct links, dependent files can be in the source dir or System32 or Syswow. That is one way you could say... use a different kernel32.dll than the OS is using, by putting it in the source dir. You can attach a Process Monitor to the .exe to see the search order that is done when looking for files.

IESHIMS.dll is often one of the typical "false positive" detections by dependency programs. Oh, where are you running this .exe from?

Lost Batch Script Downloaded from MSFN

The first thing I had done was look for .net related topics that you had created, rather than just search blindly in the forum or on google. Glad the first post I found was the right answer. -
Make sure to use the Mobile driver on the notebook instead of the desktop driver. IIRC there was a time when desktop and cpu graphics used the same HwIDs, where you could load the desktop driver onto the mobile, but it didn't unlock the extra features that the mobile chip has.
