That was the case in pre SP2 XP versions. Will not work post SP2 however. -
Just my two cents, don't use IE7, use Firefox instead, better still if ya don't like the Fox use IE6 nuthin wrong with it. less ya just like more eye candy etc.??

Then I go an try to update to a manu. driver & windows says the ones I have @ present are the best??? However I remember it wasn't that long ago experienced same issues with XP, but I hope we don't have to wait that long??

Identify Vista drivers
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to MAVERICKS CHOICE's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
@Martin There is no errors appearing in the setuperr.log?? & setupact.log is a bloody long file. Do you know what section the drivers install at? Mine seems to be all over the shop? -
After recently slipstreaming some Vista drivers into my install have found many will install in a live system without too much trouble. Is there any way of identifying problem drivers before I build my test UA install. I don't want to install these by trial & error & not know which driver caused the install to halt. This is the case in Vista as install error screen does not show specific unsigned or qualifying driver?

cant install apps during setup
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to amit_talkin's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
@Yurek3 No the Autounattend.xml file should reside both in the root of your dvd & in the sources folder. Appzroot.txt is simply a 'zero byted" text file.(You need to make this with your favorite editor & name it Appzroot.txt) this identifies your appz location that tell windows where to install from. I'm sorry can't explain this any simpler than that. -

MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to amit_talkin's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
@Yurek3 I take it you have a zero byte file in your root drive called Appzroot.txt? also your app dir "Grom" in the same root as well? -
Running batch file in FirstLogonCommand
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to jfmartel's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
You need to give us more info, where are you running this from etc? It can be done in the ans file using syncronous cmd's & UAC won't be an issue. This of course is done prior to the shell starting up. -
Vista unattended Guide
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to FireGeier's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
That was a good idea! Great work so far but I would print the whole batch files or remove them completly. For the moment it makes no sense and wasting a lot of space if you just have half of the cmd. Thanks! Martin Agree -

No worries, I have wpi 5.6 working a treat you just have to alter the core.js with the following check your layout though.. NB: I'm using my ultimate catalogue file to identify wpi & put a zero byte txt file in the root of the dvd named "AppsRoot.txt" to get the relevant drive letter. Then just include all the wpi dir's & put them in the root as you did in XP. Add this to RunSynchronousCommand in the Specialize pass & with this to call WPI in SynchronousCommand during OOBE pass You can easily alter XML ans file using the wim. -
Found problem at least mine but not sure why? removed this section from the specialize area & now appears to be working ok. The strange thing is always included this from the start in any combination of previous installs no problems? I'm wandering if there is an update I've slipstreamed causing this issue? Don't know?? However with this removed from the xml is working as expected no errors.

Vista unattended Guide
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to FireGeier's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
Hello coucou! I appreciate your help in building a pdf. But please do not publish it for the moment, cause I still remove some mistakes from the guide and change the layout a little bit. This weekend I brought out the English partitioning guide, which is more actual and a little bit better again than the German version. Give me one more week please. Than you may could redo the pdf with actual version. Is that ok? I want to avoid, that different versions of the guide are in the wild. That could cause confusions and a lot of requests. Hope you will understand! Thanks again for your effort! Regards, Martin No problem FireGeier. Just let me know when you're ready. Again good job coucou Hi FireGeier , Please let me know if the guide is update finished to build a pdf. Regards coucou Would be a very handy reference. -

Mine boots & installs off the dvd with the xml in both places. Naturally you have your machine bios set correctly i take it? -
capture partition using imagex?
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to amit_talkin's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
i didnt get u? u mean to say using WinPE? I haven't tried it myself though you can back up your system in Vista & restore the image. I know the Ultimate ver will do this the basic versions do not. Will certainly do what you need to. -

Where do you have the xml reside in Sources dir or root of the dvd? When booting off the dvd generally needs to be in the root. -
You need to look at the Vista unattended section here on this board & yes you can run any number of commands following setup in vista just use the wim & an xml ans file.
-
@ Nuhi I have also found this problem, however did not experience this with VLite.95b & using my own ans file. Remade the source many times so far with Vlite1 & same error then go back to the earlier ver no problems. No problems either with an un VLited source also? Using the same ans file to each? I don't have any spaces in the autologon user name, no domain listed though.

I had good success in substituting files in Vista prior to installing UA. I replaced Notepad.exe with my favorite text editor no problems. Basically mount your wim as mentioned in this forum go to the Mount folder drill down to windows/system 32 & simply replace the original file with your renamed editor to Notepad.exe no cabbing or anything required. Then remount the image. You can also do the same with some updates as well recently documented in this forum.

Great Unattended DVD
MAVERICKS CHOICE replied to UncleBuck's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
OK now realize you have a seperate disc, two options create your own UA install disc with updates & programs etc or Setup your Ultimate disc to liking & make an image of that & back up to disc that would install in around 8 to 10 minutes depending on how large the image is?
