What you have there is basically a restore disc of the Vista OS that was shipped with the PC. Two images that you may select most likely produced from a third party app like Norton or similar. Very difficult to convert these images to a normal install DVD. My two cents firstly you could set up your os the way you like it & simply image it using the wim (A search will find that info on this board) then you would have a better restore disk in your case. Or you could ask your supplier or manufacturer for a proper Vista DVD but good luck or maybe MS? as this is not always acceptable.
Thats not the issue, by the time of first reboot in Vista setup has formatted repartitioned etc. & he's not talkin of a cold boot where windows asks to press any key. he's saying if the current os in this case XP is running & the Ua dvd gets loaded setup runs & finds the ans file then starts installing. depends how soon you notice it & halt the setup before its too late. Simple solution disable autorun spoken frequently about around here.
Thanks,no haven't tried that but don't really want to disable all balloon tips either. Aware many xp regtweaks work on Vista not all. Just wanna disable the Block start up thingy?
@Martin You are very good indeed in explaining this in your tutorials, much easier to understand than MS. I have infact carried out many of what you have explained previously, mostly muddled through it trial & error. You have taken that out of it for most now. Excellent work.
Is it possible to remove all attributes to all dir, sub dir, folders, files, live in windows? using the cmd as follows: ATTRIB -R -H %systemdrive% /S /D All examples are welcomed.
No probs so far, You can use a usb pen drive for drivers & applications. Run your apps from another cd or dvd, Run your apps from a share, Use VLite to reduce the Source. Mine on average is under 3gig on one dvd & does the job for mine very well.
Thanks GSM Really only require program files & admin acc to remain all else to go. EDIT:btw GSM I did reply to your mail the other day but not sure if you received it?
Just wandering if anyone could help me out with a cleanup script. I work in an org that has several machines for training purposes & these need to be cleaned up following these sessions of any addittional info etc. So basically we are left with a clean desktop/start menu/My documents etc etc. Only require the few programs that are originally installed. I do not want to reimage or format setup or reinstall os only on a need basis.
Have noticed this problem as below on some desk shortcuts? Has anyone experienced the same & if so any possible solutions? This happens both in a VM & live machines.
Found this info in the updated help files, I've personally used the reg tweak during setup to no avail?? Has anyone managed to get this one to work without sysprep. I don't quite understand the last part of the reg where it states the icons, eg. Taken from the latest readme_waik
Was under the impression it was? Taken from the latest readme_Waik from ms. This may be getting close to my time problem following ua setup. I have also read this but in a little too deep though. I'm still @ a loss why windows pops up that GUI as above during the initial setup with the correct settings, thing is you must accept this for setup to continue...strange? EDIT: I have however tracked this down in my setupact.log which does explain the Lang is not supported, I find this strange though..
Howdy guys, altering my lang & locale timezone etc. Now if I set all the Lang to en-AU instead of en-US it shows the following page on initial UA setup?? Just like to know how this might be overcome as I believe the en-AU is a valid entry??
